Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India] June 6 (ANI): Following the death of 11 people in a stampede on Wednesday near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), DNA (event management company) officials have been taken into custody and are being taken for medical tests, on Friday.
On June 4, the incident happened at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy stadium as a huge crowd of nearly three lakh people had gathered to witness the victory celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which won the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Karnataka Police filed an FIR against the Karnataka Cricket Board Administrative Committee, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), among others, in the Bengaluru stampede incident. In response, KSCA has filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking the quashing of FIRs filed against it.
KSCA board of directors, including President Raghuram Bhat, Secretary A. Shankar, Treasurer E.S. Jairam, appealed for the cancellation of the FIR.
Following the stampede at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Karnataka police have suspended multiple IPS officers, including the Bengaluru city police Commissioner, B Dayananda. Senior IPS officer Seemant Kumar Singh took charge as the city police commissioner earlier today.
Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge on Friday addressed the recent stampede incident in Bengaluru, stating that the officers responsible have been suspended and a magisterial enquiry has been ordered to investigate the matter.
While speaking to reporters, Kharge said, 'The officers who are responsible have been suspended. We have made no scapegoats... A magisterial enquiry has been ordered and our next action will be according to the findings of the enquiry...'
'BJP likes to politicise everything. The same BJP, when told that a victory parade on an open bus in such a short time was not possible due to a lack of time to make arrangements, said that we were insulting the team. Now that post is deleted. BJP's intention of politicising everything is not healthy,' he further said.
He added that the Chief Minister has taken responsibility for the incident and assured that corrective measures will be implemented. Kharge also accused the BJP of politicising the tragedy. (ANI)

Bengaluru stampede: How further disaster was thwarted on top tiers of Chinnaswamy Stadium

1 2 Bengaluru: While pain, anguish and trauma unfolded outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium Wednesday, a potential disaster was averted by the skin of the teeth inside the stadium — thanks to the swift response of alert private security personnel and police officers. By 5pm on that fateful day, as it became clear certain stands, particularly Stand 13, were overcrowded, D Bhaskar, the managing director of Supreme Care Services, a private security agency deployed by event partner DNA, could sense trouble. "Stand 13 looked dangerous. People were jumping from the upper tier to the lower level to get a better view," Bhaskar recalled. "Some even used pillars and fences to climb down. It was a crowd unlike what we usually see during IPL matches — much more aggressive and unruly." Bhaskar, drawing on his army training and two years' experience of handling RCB match security, read the situation fast enough to realise it was spiralling out of control. "Several stands were operating at over 120% capacity. Those spectators who stood up were blocking the views of those behind, which led to pushing and jostling," he said. "I feared people could fall off the upper stands straight to the ground." Bhaskar immediately approached a senior police officer at the venue. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Obtén audífonos premium sin pagar absolutamente nada Top Audifonos Undo "I must thank him — he acted without any delay. Five police officers from the VIP area were immediately told to control the situation on the upper stands. They moved to the upper tiers and cleared out those threatening to act dangerously," Bhaskar said. "We told the crowd that they were under surveillance and strict action would be taken against any unruly conduct, which instilled some fear and helped calm the situation."

Bengaluru stampede: Panel gets one month to probe stampede

Bengaluru: Karnataka govt Saturday gave retired high court judge Justice John Michael D'Cunha, who heads a one-member judicial commission, one month to investigate the stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium that left 11 people dead and 75 injured. The govt issued a fresh notification on June 5, assigning priority to the probe into the tragedy that occurred during RCB's IPL victory celebrations. Justice D'Cunha was already heading a commission investigating two sensitive cases — the alleged Covid-era medical procurement scam and deaths of patients due to suspected oxygen shortage at Chamarajanagar district hospital. Initially appointed on Aug 25, 2023, the commission's term was extended in Oct 2024 till July 31, 2025. To accommodate the stampede inquiry, the govt has now extended the panel's term by another month. "Since the commission needs to prioritise the stampede incident and submit its report in a month after completing probe, the term has been extended from Aug 1 to Aug 31, 2025, as it may need extra time to look into the case," the government order stated. The Congress govt has launched a three-tier investigation into the incident — judicial, magisterial and by Criminal Investigation Department (CID). While Justice D'Cunha leads the judicial inquiry, a magisterial probe is being conducted by deputy commissioner of Bengaluru Urban, and CID is holding a parallel investigation. Multiple probes confusing: HD Kumaraswamy Union minister HD Kumaraswamy of JD(S) slammed the govt's approach, calling out the multiple probes as overlapping and confusing. "The govt wants to show that it has taken measures before the high court takes up the suo-motu PIL into the issue. The govt first ordered a magisterial probe, then appointed a commission headed by a retired HC judge, and the case was also handed over to CID. Which report are you going to accept?" he asked.
