National Month Launch In Muar To Ignite Patriotic Spirit
JOHOR BAHRU, July 25 (Bernama) -- The launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign is more than a symbolic event — it is a meaningful platform to cultivate, strengthen and inspire the spirit of patriotism among Malaysians.
Information Department (JaPen) director-general Julina Johan said this year's event, to be held at Dataran Tanjung Emas, Muar, this Sunday, takes a people-focused approach, in line with the theme of the National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) 2025 Celebration, namely 'Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni'.
'Among the community-based programmes are the Bakti Komuniti MADANI at Taman Tun Sulaiman Ninam Shah on July 26, the 6.8-km Merdeka Fun Run & Walk and flagging off the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy on July 27 at Dataran Tanjung Emas.
"The 2025 MADANI Community Retreat will be held at the Bistari Mini Stadium in Ayer Keroh, Melaka on July 26," she told Bernama.
She said Muar was chosen, among other reasons, for its rich historical and cultural heritage — including traditional art forms such as zapin, ghazal and kuda kepang — in the district also known as Bandar Maharani Bandar Diraja, which borders Melaka and is about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Johor Bahru.
"All these elements also promote the identity of Johor and enhance the visitor experience in a patriotic and people-friendly atmosphere," she said.
According to Julina, the events will not only strengthen the patriotic spirit but also connect the people of Johor with the national narrative, while raising awareness, sensitivity, and commitment towards maintaining the country's harmony, progress, and independence.

Kuching-Pontianak Direct Route Provides Flexibility, Convenience For Travellers
KUCHING, July 26 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the Kuching-Pontianak route, scheduled to commence on Sept 12 and operate twice daily, would provide greater flexibility and convenience for travellers from both sides of the border. In a statement today, he said the opening of these air routes was not just a milestone in aviation, but also a testament to the strong historical, cultural, and familial ties shared by the people. 'It will boost tourism, trade, education and social linkages, especially among border communities,' he said. According to him, the Sarawak government appreciated the Indonesian government's move to reopen Supadio Airport in Pontianak for international flights, which is a strategic air route connecting Kuching and Pontianak, the capital of West Kalimantan. He said he was formally invited to attend the launch, but was unable to be present due to prior official commitments, and delivered a pre-recorded video message to show his full support. 'I wish to first extend my sincere apologies for not being able to attend today's very special event. 'Nonetheless, I am truly delighted and would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Sarawak Tourism Board for the successful organisation of the Sarawak Travel Fair in Pontianak,' he said in the message. Air Asia Malaysia announced the launch of the two new direct routes connecting Kuala Lumpur and Kuching to Pontianak, to become the only airline operating international flights to the West Kalimantan capital city. In a statement today, the airline said the new routes were unveiled during the Sarawak Travel Fair, organised by the Sarawak Tourism Board in Pontianak, and officially launched by West Kalimantan Governor Ria Norsan.

Misuse of tourism licences will lead to firm consequences, warns Tiong
KUALA LUMPUR: Firm action will be taken against the misuse of licences, including dive permits, tour guide credentials, and travel agency approvals if found guilty, says Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing. In a Facebook post Saturday (July 26), the Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister responded to a viral video showing a clash between a diving instructor and a foreign tourist in Semporna, Sabah, which has sparked public concern. Initial findings suggest that the incident began during a dive trip when an air tank was improperly placed on the boat deck and accidentally dropped, injuring the instructor's foot. A dispute ensued, which later escalated into a physical confrontation. "The case is now under formal investigation and the instructor has been arrested. Relevant enforcement agencies will work closely to uncover the full story and ensure the process is legal, fair, and transparent," he said. "While investigations continue, the ministry will monitor the case and address any non-compliance in tourism activities." Tiong urged tourism operators to strictly adhere to safety and operational guidelines to prevent similar incidents, while also stressing the importance of tourists cooperating with guides and instructors to ensure their safety and that of others. He also reminded operators to uphold professionalism and treat guests with respect, ensuring that there is no violence, insults, or intimidation involved, except in clear cases of self-defence, and to respond calmly and strive to resolve issues peacefully when faced with rude behaviour. "As Malaysia is known globally as a friendly and welcoming destination, we take pride in our natural beauty and cultural diversity, and we welcome travellers from around the world," he said. He added that with Visit Malaysia Year 2026 approaching, all parties must play their part in protecting the country's image, ensuring that every visitor better understands and respects Malaysia's laws, culture, and norms. "I call on all tourism players to work together to create a safe, respectful, and professional environment, so that both visitors and hosts can fully enjoy the best of Malaysia," he said. – Bernama

Borneo Flora Festival In Labuan A Big Hit With Tourists
The inaugural Borneo Flora Festival (BFF) 2025 is more than just a vibrant showcase of tropical blooms and landscape artistry. Minister in the Prime Ministers Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa in her keynote speech at the official launching of the Borneo Flora Festival 2025 (BFF) today, emphasized the BFF was designed not merely to add to Labuans event calendar, but to serve as a catalyst for diversification and socioeconomic revitalisation. LABUAN, July 26 (Bernama) -- The Borneo Flora Festival (BFF) has not only attracted residents of the Pearl of Borneo, but also visitors from outside the island who have come to celebrate the festival, which began today. A visitor from Brunei Darussalam, Siti Norlila Rahim, 38, did not want to miss the opportunity to see the various species of flowers on display at the International Sea Sports Complex. The mother of three said her family had arrived on the island by ferry from Brunei to Labuan yesterday to visit relatives living here. 'My mum told me there's a festival here (in Labuan), so I thought, why not come… and most importantly, there are also booths from Brunei involved in the festival,' she told Bernama. Jinus Yoson, 51, from Tambunan, meanwhile, arrived in Labuan two days ago and came to the BFF as he did not want to miss the chance to witness the flower festival being held for the first time. He said the arrangement and decorations at the BFF were very attractive, with colourful floral displays and various activities for visitors to take part in. 'If even the people of Labuan are coming, then those of us who don't live here surely won't miss the chance to come,' he said, adding that he was also visiting his child who worked on the island. Nur Hayanti Asri, 18, from Kuala Penyu, said she was not only thrilled and excited as it was her first time attending such a festival, but also because she wanted to capture memorable photos with the flowers displayed at the BFF. 'As a young person, the first thing I thought of when deciding to come to the BFF was to take pictures to use as backgrounds and post them on Instagram,' she said, adding that she learnt about the festival through social media promotions.
