Fury as unions could STOP plans to force French cops to intercept UK-bound migrants as it's ‘too dangerous'
PLANS to force police in France to intercept migrants on the beaches before they board boats for Britain have been rejected by powerful unions across the Channel.
They claim it would be too dangerous to try to tackle overcrowded dinghies at sea.

And their opposition is threatening to scupper efforts to close a loophole that means officers in France cannot stop boats once they are already in the water.
As a result, smugglers launch dinghies from inland canals and act as taxis to pick up migrants who wade into the sea, while law enforcement officials watch on from the shore.
France Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau wants to change the law so officers can intervene up to 300m from the coastline but progress has been slow.
A new strategy is being drawn up to coincide with President Emmanuel Macron 's State visit to Britain in July. But unions in France are opposed to the plan.
A senior source at Alliance — the largest police union in the country — said: 'People don't seem to realise how dangerous it is to try to carry out arrests at sea, while trying to force a boat to change course.
'If there are 80 people on an overcrowded boat, including women and children, then it is extremely dangerous to try to stop them.
'The potential for disaster, including further deaths, is immense. Turning us into sea police is not the way forward.'
A source at the maritime branch of the General Confederation of Labour, which represents seamen across France, told The Sun: 'If a potentially vulnerable boat is stable then it should not be interfered with until it reaches a safe place on the shore.
"Such boats should only be interfered with at sea if they are in serious trouble.'
Frédéric Okonek, coastal delegate for the Un1té union, said previously: 'If the police intervene in the water, the boat sinks with a hundred people on board. It's too dangerous.

'We also have orders: When the boat is in the water, we no longer have the right to intervene. It's to prevent tragedies.'
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has told Mr Retailleau she wants the law changed as swiftly as possible.
Last Saturday, 1,195 migrants arrived on 19 small boats — the highest number for a single day this year.
Fewer than 40 per cent of boats have been turned back despite a £480million deal with France to combat crossings.
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said: ' Belgium has been very successfully intercepting returning boats at sea and has almost entirely stopped embarkations.
" Trade unions and the Left have no interest in stopping illegal immigration.'

Reform's Richard Tice doubles down on call for burqa ban debate after chairman quits
Reform's deputy leader has doubled down on calls for a debate on whether burqas should be banned in Britain after a furious row over the issue saw the party's chairman quit. Zia Yusuf resigned on Thursday after describing a call from the party's newest MP to ban the burqa as 'dumb'. Speaking as he entered the count for the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse Holyrood by-election, Richard Tice said MPs should 'discuss' a potential ban. 'Let's have a discussion about these things, all these important issues, as opposed to not discussing anything, smearing and labelling,' he said. Pressed on his personal view amid chaotic scenes, Mr Tice said there should be a 'national debate'. And, asked if Mr Yusuf's resignation implied the party was racist, the Boston and Skegness MP said: 'With the greatest of respect, that's nonsense.' It came after the new Runcorn and Helsby MP Sarch Pochin used her first Prime Minister's Questions question to call on Sir Keir to ban burqas 'in the interest of public safety'. She said: 'Given the prime minister's desire to strengthen strategic alignment with our European neighbours, will he, in the interest of public safety, follow the lead of France, Belgium, Denmark and others and ban the burqa?' Sir Keir welcomed Ms Pochin to the Commons, but said 'I am not going to follow her down that line'. A Reform spokesman later clarified that banning burqas was not party policy, sparking calls from the far-right for Mr Farage to adopt the proposals. Later, Mr Yusuf said it was 'dumb for a party to ask the prime minister if they would do something the party itself wouldn't do'. He quit the party on Thursday saying 'I no longer believe working to get a Reform government elected is a good use of my time, and hereby resign the office'. Asked on Wednesday night about Ms Pochin's comments on the burqa, party leader Nigel Farage also said he would welcome a broader debate about face coverings in public. He told GB News: 'I think this debate actually goes beyond the burqa… I was in Aberdeen Monday, there was a mob there to meet me, an organisation called Antifa, and half of them had complete face coverings on so they would be unidentifiable. 'I don't think face coverings in public places make sense, and I think we do deserve debate about that, which I see the burqa as being a part.' Denying his party was 'in chaos', Mr Tice paid tribute to the outgoing former chairman. 'As Nigel's said, as I've said, we're very sad that Zia has resigned,' he said. 'He's worked incredibly hard, he's been instrumental in driving the party forward. ' One of the reasons that this result could be really close – who knows which way it will go – is because of the success of what Zia has achieved.' He added: 'It's very sad, politics is difficult, it's time-consuming, but he's worked incredibly hard.'

M&S hackers sent abuse and ransom demand directly to chief executive
The Marks & Spencer hackers reportedly sent an abusive email to the retailer's boss, gloating about the hack and demanding ransom payment. M&S CEO Stuart Machin was sent an email on 23 April from a hacker group called DragonForce, using the email account of an employee, which confirms that the British high street retailer was targeted by a ransomware group, something they have refused to acknowledge. The email, seen and reported on by the BBC, says: 'We have marched the ways from China all the way to the UK and have mercilessly raped your company and encrypted all the servers "The dragon wants to speak to you so please head over to [our darknet website]." A darknet link shared in the email connected to a portal for DragonForce victims to negotiate a ransom fee. The criminal organisation said: 'let's get the party started. Message us, we will make this fast and easy for us.' They ended the email with an image of a dragon breathing fire, according to the BBC. The blackmail message reportedly included a racist term and was sent to Mr Machin and several other executives. As well as bragging about installing ransomware across the M&S IT system to render it useless, the hackers said they have stolen the private data of millions of customers. Three weeks later, M&S informed their customers that their data may have been stolen. The email was apparently sent using the account of an employee from IT company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which has provided IT services to M&S for over a decade. The IT worker had an M&S email address, but is a paid TCS employee. It is believed that he himself was hacked in the attack. The IT company has previously said it is investigating whether it was a gateway for the cyberattack and since told the BBC the email was not sent from its system and has nothing to do with the breach. M&S told The Independent: 'We cannot comment on details of or speculation on the cyber incident, and we have been advised not to.' DragonForce is the second hacking group to be linked to the M&S cyberattack; the Scattered Spider network, a group of young hackers across the UK and US, was also connected to the incident. Marks & Spencer has predicted that the cyberattack will disrupt its operations into July and will take an estimated £300 million hit to profits this year.
