Hyundai Elantra Named 2025 Best Hybrid for the Money by Cars.com

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., May 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hyundai Elantra Hybrid has been awarded the 2025 Best Hybrid for the Money and winner of the compact car segment by Cars.com. Additionally, the Hyundai Santa Fe HEV has been awarded Best Hybrid for the midsize SUV category. To qualify, any hybrid vehicle that allows shoppers to pay the least for the most mileage, barring all other considerations, was included in the evaluation. Cars.com devised an efficiency-cost rating to determine if a hybrid vehicle's added expense is worth the cash for buyers. This list includes model-year 2025 hybrids without a plug, and vehicle equipment levels, quality judgments, cost of car ownership or any variances from EPA mileage estimates were not factors.
'As consumers evaluate the optimal solution for eco-friendly vehicles, Hyundai provides a wide range of product platforms and several propulsion systems,' said Ricky Lao, director, product planning, Hyundai Motor North America. 'Receiving recognition for the best hybrid vehicle overall and in two categories by Cars.com exemplifies Hyundai's proficiency in alternative propulsion technologies and highlights the value of hybrid vehicles.'
'Hyundai stands out in this year's rankings thanks to vehicles that pair high mpg ratings with competitive pricing — the two key metrics in our value-based methodology,' says Jennifer Geiger, Cars.com News Editor. 'The 2025 Elantra Hybrid tops our list with the highest efficiency-cost rating of any vehicle analyzed, which is why it's named Cars.com's Best Hybrid Car for the Money. The 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid also earns its win for Best Hybrid Mid-Size SUV for the Money by delivering strong fuel economy and pricing. Rugged styling and three-row versatility are just icing on the cake,' said Jenni Newman, editor-in-chief, Cars.com.'
The Elantra Hybrid Blue offers segment-leading EPA estimated up to 54 MPG combined1 and the 2025 Elantra lineup also introduces a new SEL Sport trim available with ICE or hybrid powertrains. Fuel-efficient power for both city commutes and outdoor adventures, the Santa Fe HEV is available on the SEL, Limited and/or Calligraphy trims for either FWD or AWD.
In April 2025, Hyundai's hybrid vehicle sales rose by 46 percent, marking their best HEV month ever. The Santa Fe HEV, Tucson PHEV, and Tucson HEV also achieved retail and total sales records.

Trump hints he may raise auto tariffs ‘in the not too distant future'

President Trump said Thursday that he may increase tariffs on automobile imports 'in the not-too-distant future.' 'To further defend our autoworkers, I imposed this 25 percent tariff on all foreign automobiles, and investment in American manufacturing and auto manufacturing—all manufacturing—is surging,' Trump said. 'And I might go up with that tariff in the not-too-distant future,' Trump added. 'The higher you go, the more likely it is they build a plant here.' His comments came at a White House event to block a California state rule that would ban the sale of new gas-powered cars by 2035. Trump touted incoming investments from Ford and General Motors, crediting his tariffs for those announcements. However, foreign carmakers like Hyundai have warned they may have to raise prices because of tariffs. The president has aggressively imposed — and pulled back — tariffs on various sectors, such as automobiles and steel and aluminum, while threatening additional tariffs on pharmaceuticals and other specific imports. He has also imposed a 10 percent blanket tariff on all imports while announcing and later suspending higher tariff rates on dozens of other nations.

Vietnam vehicle market grows 4% in May

Vietnam's new vehicle market expanded by 4% to 22,658 units in May 2025 from 21,767 units a year earlier, according to wholesale data released by the Vietnam Automotive Manufacturers Association (VAMA). The data do not include sales by Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Tesla, Nissan, domestic automaker VinFast, and several Chinese brands that have entered the market in the last two years. VAMA's members reported slower sales growth last month, following a strong rebound over the last year from depressed levels. The latest government data show that GDP expanded by 5.9% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025, moderating from 7.5% in the fourth quarter of 2024, underpinned by strong domestic consumption and exports. In the first five months of 2025 the market expanded by 12% to 104,780 units from 93,653 units a year-earlier, according to VAMA data, with sales of passenger vehicles rising by 7% to 71,794 units while commercial vehicle deliveries surged by 23% to 32,986 units. Truong Hai (Thaco) Group, the local assembler and distributor of several overseas brands and a major player in the commercial vehicle segment, reported a 14% sales rise to 33,806 units in this period. This includes a 48% jump in Thaco commercial vehicle sales to 10,050 units, and a 17% rise in Mazda sales to 11,803 units, while Kia sales declined by 9% to 10,116 units. Toyota's sales surged by 34% to 23,061 units year-to-date, driven by strong Yaris Cross and Vios volumes, while Ford's sales rose by 22% to 17,533 units; Mitsubishi 12,130 units (+4%).; and Honda 9,710 units (+7%). Domestic automaker VinFast announced separately that it delivered 56,187 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to customers in Vietnam in the first five months of the year, with the VF3 and VF5 models accounting for around two-thirds of the total. Hyundai's passenger vehicle sales data for May were not available, but its local distributor Tan Chong International reported sales of 15,944 units in the first four months of the year. The Vietnamese Ministry of Finance announced in March that it had extended the vehicle registration tax exemption for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) until the end of February 2027, extending it for an additional two years. "Vietnam vehicle market grows 4% in May" was originally created and published by Just Auto, a GlobalData owned brand. Kia Telluride May Add Game-Changing 600-Mile EREV Option

The Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade have been two of the most respected and successful three-row crossovers since they launched a couple of years ago. The Palisade came first, which is why it's the first of the two to receive a second generation. However, Hyundai and Kia often develop related models in unison, and the all-new Telluride won't be far behind. According to a report by the South Korean newspaper Maeil Business, the next Telluride could have a bold new Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) powertrain, which could be a game-changer for the segment. Kia is said to be evaluating this powertrain for its three-row SUV. Announced by Kia earlier this year at the 2025 Kia CEO Investor Day, the EREV powertrain features electric motors that power the wheels. There is also a gas engine - in this case, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder - but it's used exclusively as a generator to recharge the batteries. This allows the vehicle to function as a normal EV for the most part, while the gas engine completely eliminates range anxiety by keeping the batteries charged. In fact, a range of over 600 miles is possible with this setup, which far surpasses the maximum range of today's modern EVs. For instance, the current Kia EV9 three-row electric SUV can only manage up to 304 miles on a full charge. According to the report, the EREV system is said to be under consideration for the next Telluride, which would complement the more conventional hybrid that's also expected for the next Telluride. We already know the new Palisade is available with a 329-horsepower powertrain, and since the two SUVs have always been closely related, we expect the same powertrain in the new Telluride. The potential combination of a gas model, a new hybrid, and an EREV for the next Telluride would represent the most diverse range of powertrains in a single three-row SUV model. Kia's future EREV would not be the first powertrain of its kind. The discontinued BMW i3 REx had a gas range extender powertrain to increase range, while a more modern example is the Ram 1500 Ramcharger, which has a targeted range of 690 miles, thanks to its 3.6-liter V6 that acts as a generator. However, a possible Kia Telluride EREV would be one of the first SUVs and three-row models to incorporate such a powertrain. Performance and powertrains aside, the next Kia Telluride has already been spied. The details remain hidden, but we expect a boxier look than the current model and visual cues that are shared with the futuristic EV9. We expect the new Telluride to be unveiled before the end of 2025. Hopefully, Kia will confirm the possibility of the EREV powertrain as an option by then. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc.
