Hyundai Elantra Named 2025 Best Hybrid for the Money by Cars.com
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., May 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hyundai Elantra Hybrid has been awarded the 2025 Best Hybrid for the Money and winner of the compact car segment by Cars.com. Additionally, the Hyundai Santa Fe HEV has been awarded Best Hybrid for the midsize SUV category. To qualify, any hybrid vehicle that allows shoppers to pay the least for the most mileage, barring all other considerations, was included in the evaluation. Cars.com devised an efficiency-cost rating to determine if a hybrid vehicle's added expense is worth the cash for buyers. This list includes model-year 2025 hybrids without a plug, and vehicle equipment levels, quality judgments, cost of car ownership or any variances from EPA mileage estimates were not factors.
'As consumers evaluate the optimal solution for eco-friendly vehicles, Hyundai provides a wide range of product platforms and several propulsion systems,' said Ricky Lao, director, product planning, Hyundai Motor North America. 'Receiving recognition for the best hybrid vehicle overall and in two categories by Cars.com exemplifies Hyundai's proficiency in alternative propulsion technologies and highlights the value of hybrid vehicles.'
'Hyundai stands out in this year's rankings thanks to vehicles that pair high mpg ratings with competitive pricing — the two key metrics in our value-based methodology,' says Jennifer Geiger, Cars.com News Editor. 'The 2025 Elantra Hybrid tops our list with the highest efficiency-cost rating of any vehicle analyzed, which is why it's named Cars.com's Best Hybrid Car for the Money. The 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid also earns its win for Best Hybrid Mid-Size SUV for the Money by delivering strong fuel economy and pricing. Rugged styling and three-row versatility are just icing on the cake,' said Jenni Newman, editor-in-chief, Cars.com.'
The Elantra Hybrid Blue offers segment-leading EPA estimated up to 54 MPG combined1 and the 2025 Elantra lineup also introduces a new SEL Sport trim available with ICE or hybrid powertrains. Fuel-efficient power for both city commutes and outdoor adventures, the Santa Fe HEV is available on the SEL, Limited and/or Calligraphy trims for either FWD or AWD.
In April 2025, Hyundai's hybrid vehicle sales rose by 46 percent, marking their best HEV month ever. The Santa Fe HEV, Tucson PHEV, and Tucson HEV also achieved retail and total sales records.

Kia's Sales Soar: Drivers Can't Get Enough of These 3 Models
Most automakers don't release monthly sales results, but Kia, a longstanding exception alongside its sister company, Hyundai, has posted promising delivery numbers for May. Last month, Kia sold 269,148 units, up 1.7% year-over-year. Outside of Korea, Kia moved 223,817 units, a 2.6% annual increase. Kia SUVs such as the Sportage, Seltos, and Sorento stood out in May, selling 48,091, 26,017, and 21,889 units, respectively, while combined sales of the K4 and K3 outside of Korea totaled 17,641 examples. One sedan, Kia's K5, has also been making a splash with a 256% year-over-year increase in May. Kia padded its sales by launching its EV3 electric SUV, which won World Car of the Year at the 2025 World Car Awards, alongside the EV4 electric sedan and the Tasman pickup. However, Kia's domestic sales experienced a 2.4% year-over-year decrease. The Sorento was the biggest hit in Korea during May, selling 7,734 units, followed by the Carnival MPV at 6,651 units and the Sportage at 5,295 units. Overall, this year held Kia's best Q1 numbers in history. In 2024, Kia sold over 780,000 units in the U.S.-the company's all-time high, Tork reports. The automaker's strong 2024 performance also marked the seventh consecutive year that it experienced retail sales growth. Increased quality, new models, and evolving brand perception are driving Kia's global sales success, but Kia's flagship all-electric model, the EV9, sold just 37 U.S. examples in May, representing a 98.3% year-over-year decline. Additionally, sales of Kia's electric EV6 have been down 40.8% in the U.S. during the first five months, nearing the EV9's 48.2% sales drop during the same period. Eric Watson, vice president of sales operations at Kia America, said that the EV9's new 2026 Nightfall Edition and the GT-Line model with a two-tone roof are among the incentives that should spur the model's sales growth. For its 4th of July event, Kia is selling the 2025 Niro EV with a 0% APR finance offer for 72 months and a $7,500 cash incentive. The brand also offers 1.9% APR for 60 months and a $500 cash bonus on select trims as part of its holiday specials. Kia has achieved success in recent years by transforming its image, with Peter Schreyer playing a central role as Chief Design Officer from 2006 to 2012 and Chief Design Officer of the Hyundai Motor Group, which oversees Kia, from 2012 to 2018. Before working at Kia, Schreyer was head of the Volkswagen Group's Potsdam, Germany, studio. In 2006, Schreyer was given the opportunity to rebuild Kia's design direction from scratch, with his modern, sleek, and balanced designs leading Kia's global annual sales increase from 1.6 million to 3 million units between 2009 and 2016, according to Autocar. One of the influential designer's key contributions to Kia was the wide tiger nose front grille with top and bottom indents in the center, something he describes as "a frontal element so strong that you wouldn't even need a Kia badge as an identifier." Hyundai has rare earths stockpile for its cars that can last a year, source says
Hyundai Motor has a rare earths stockpile that can last about a year and it does not expect any near-term impact from global supply chain disruptions caused by China's export curbs, said a person who attended a company investor call. China's decision in April to restrict exports of a wide range of rare earths and related magnets has tripped up the supply chains central to automakers, aerospace manufacturers, semiconductor companies and military contractors around the world. The stockpiling by Hyundai, the world's number 3 automaker along with its affiliate Kia Corp, indicates it is better-placed than many competitors to withstand restrictions that have already impacted production of the supplier network of companies including Ford and BMW. A Hyundai investor relations official said the South Korean automaker had "far more wiggle room" than rivals with regard to rare earths-related supply chain issues affecting the industry, according to the attendee on the investor call, which was not open to the public. The official told investors Hyundai's efforts to diversify supply chains and improve procurement had succeeded and the company expected to be able to produce electric vehicles or hybrid cars without disruptions "for at least about one year," the attendee said. Hyundai also significantly boosted its rare earths inventories during a recent period when China had slightly relaxed its export restrictions, the official said, according to the attendee who spoke on condition of anonymity because the call was private. The South Korean automaker's stockpile of the key minerals had not been reported previously. It was not clear whether the inventory was solely stockpiled by Hyundai and its affiliate Kia or also included stocks held by their suppliers. In a statement to Reuters, Hyundai declined to comment on specific inventory details or procurement strategies. "We continuously evaluate market conditions to ensure operational stability and maintain a diversified global supply chain," Hyundai said. "As part of our standard business practices, we maintain appropriate inventory levels to support uninterrupted production." China produces around 90% of the world's rare earths, which are essential for the production of vehicles, especially electric vehicle motors. Hyundai Motor Group also holds about a one-year inventory of rare earths-related magnets needed for its mainstay EVs and hybrid vehicles, said a person familiar with the matter, declining to be named due to the sensitivity of the subject. China's dominance of the critical mineral industry is increasingly viewed as a key point of leverage for Beijing in the trade war sparked by US President Donald Trump's tariffs. US-China trade talks were set to extend to a second day in London on Tuesday as top economic officials from the world's two largest economies sought to defuse a bitter dispute that has widened from tariffs to restrictions over rare earths.

CFO Sonia Jain pointed out that cost controls and operational discipline helped adjusted EBITDA margin exceed expectations despite flat year-over-year revenue. Looking ahead, is prioritizing product adoption and platform enhancements to capitalize on growing consumer interest and evolving dealer needs. The company remains focused on growth initiatives such as further integration of AccuTrade and Dealer Club, website product expansion, and delivering value through data-driven marketplace improvements. Jain added, 'we expect Q2 revenue to be up year over year and quarter over quarter,' but cautioned that visibility into the timing and magnitude of advertising spend is limited. Management expects future results to be driven by the pace of product adoption, consumer engagement trends, and the timing of OEM and dealer advertising decisions. Tariff-driven volatility: Ongoing uncertainty around automotive tariffs is causing OEMs and dealers to shift advertising and marketing spend to shorter commitments. Management believes this could impact the timing of media revenue, with OEM clients moving to month-to-month spending until market conditions stabilize. Growth in solutions and subscriptions: Expansion of AccuTrade, Dealer Club, and website solutions is expected to drive dealer count and average revenue per dealer. aims to cross-sell and upsell these products, leveraging recent product enhancements and integration to boost adoption rates and long-term retention.
