Border businesses buzz again as India, Pak bring themselves back from brink of all-out war
After a tense week in the shadow of war, businesses along the India-Pakistan border are returning to normalcy with the two sides having decided to halt military operations, The Times of India reported on May 15. Many businesses are reopening and employees are gradually returning to their workplaces in these regions. However, companies that have extensive manufacturing and operational processes are proceeding with caution, ensuring they can adapt quickly and implement safety protocols if necessary.
They are closely monitoring instructions from local authorities as well as the prevailing conditions in the area, ToI's report (by Asmita Dey) said.
Despite the ceasefire, reports indicate that there were instances of drone intrusions in several border regions on Monday night, which led to power outages in locations such as Amritsar. Mother Dairy has announced that its operations are fully functional at this time, though it remains vigilant.

'We are engaged in procurement, processing, and sales across selected markets in the bordering states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir. In light of the unfortunate events last month and the subsequent developments, we promptly communicated advisories to our teams, emphasizing their safety and adherence to local authority guidelines. As the situation continues to unfold, we are keeping a close eye on developments and remain optimistic for improvements,' said Manish Bandlish, the managing director of Mother Dairy, in conversation with TOI.

Dabur
, which had paused night operations at its factory in Jammu, confirmed that all shifts are now back in operation and that its outstation employees have returned to work.
Live Events

Bikaji Foods International
, told the newspaper.
LT Foods
, known for its Daawat brand, operates two manufacturing facilities in Punjab—one in Bhikhiwind and the other in Varpal—which are both currently running at full capacity, according to CEO and MD Ashwani Arora.

Electric passenger vehicle sales cross 4% first time in May 2025: FADA
The contribution of electric passenger vehicle (EV) sales crossed 4 per cent in May, compared to 2.6 per cent of the same period of 2024, the data by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) revealed. The May retail data marks an uptick from 3.5 per cent in April by 0.5 per cent. The increasing retail sales data marks a significant shift in consumer adoption of EVs, signalling growing momentum in the transition towards cleaner mobility. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The retail data of electric passenger vehicles shows that the players in the segment sold about 12,304 units, compared to just 8,029 units of the May 2024. The FADA data shows that the April retail sale was registered at 12,233 units. Live Events On the other hand, the FADA data released on Friday shows that auto players witnessed a modest rise of 5 per cent in May compared to the same month last year. Segment-wise, the two-wheeler category performed best, registering a rise of 7.3 per cent on a year-on-year basis. Three-wheelers followed (rise of 6.2 per cent), and the tractor segment registered a gain of 2.7 per cent on a year-on-year basis. According to FADA, robust semi-urban/rural demand driven by auspicious marriage dates, strong Rabi harvest, and pre-monsoon pull helped the two-wheeler segment register a year-on-year rise. On the other hand, financing constraints in the economy segment cap upside, leading to a decline of nearly 2 per cent in the segment. The passenger vehicle segment suffered a decline, on "Elevated inventory days and subdued consumer sentiment--particularly in entry-level models--compounded by war-related tensions for border-state (J&K, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat) and margin-money challenges; healthy bookings offset by weak retail conversions," FADA said. However, FADA projects that global supply-chain headwinds (rare-earth constraints in EV components, geopolitical tensions) may limit urban consumer sentiment and exert cost pressure.

KP to spent 48 lakh on grooming its dogs, horses
1 2 3 4 5 6 Kolkata: The Kolkata Police is all set to spend more than Rs 48.5 lakh this year for the grooming of the four-legged members of its two prized units – the horses of the Kolkata Mounted Police unit and its dogs in the KP Dog Squad. "These are essential equipment, other than food and medicines, for which tenders are floated. These equipment help to keep the kennels and stables clean, but more importantly, help in training the animals so that they are always ready to go into operation. Add to it the various events and competitions they need to attend in their best shape," said a joint commissioner. While there are 65 horses at its two stables at SN Banerjee Road and Police Training School at Alipore, there are presently 42 dogs under the Kolkata Police Dog Squad, with cops planning to induct 12 more. Kolkata Police proposed to spend Rs 31.5 lakh for the grooming of horses this financial year. These items are essential equipment and supplies used in horse care, riding, and stable management. The equipment is also important for Kolkata police horses to prepare for all India equestrian championships where the team's performances – especially in the police and paramilitary competitions – were noteworthy. These items provide control, comfort, and safety for both rider and horse. Lunging reins are used for training horses in circular exercise patterns. Maintenance supplies form the third category. Horse shoes and nails are essential for proper hoof care and protection. Various polishes (saddle polish cream, liquid, and white cherry polish) are used to maintain leather equipment. Baggage straps and surcingles help secure equipment and loads. Lastly, stable equipment includes wooden bars for stalls, sword frogs for military ceremonies, and white ear covers for horse protection. V-attachments are used for specific equipment mounting. Another Rs 17 lakh has been earmarked for the dog squad. Among the items, several are for training and controlling the dogs, especially the newer inductees. These include nylon leashes, collars, harnesses, and tracking leashes, which are fundamental tools for controlling and training dogs. They help handlers maintain control during various training exercises and daily walks. The choke chains and steel chains provide additional control options for stronger dogs. Training items like wooden dumbbells, flying discs, and rope toys are used for obedience training, exercise, and mental stimulation. The specific grooming equipment includes rubber gloves, wooden and rubber brushes, steel combs, hair trimmers, scissors, and hair dryers. The order includes various items for the dog's comfort and protection in different weather conditions.
