'Train-murder case': ‘Killer' set free from jail as victim returns home in UP
BAREILLY: Undertrial Narendra Kumar Dubey, 43, lodged in prison for two-and-a-half years for allegedly 'killing another man by throwing him from a running train' was released by a court here Wednesday, as the 'victim' was found alive in Gujarat, reports Kanwardeep Singh . Additional district and sessions judge Pankaj Kumar Srivastava said in the order that the person thrown off the train by Dubey was someone else. If the family of that person comes forward and wishes to file a case against Dubey, the case proceedings will go on. In Dec 2022, passengers on Delhi-bound 14205Ayodhya Cantt-Old Delhi Express threw one Mohd Ahtab, 26, off the train after suspecting him to be a mobile phone thief on a stretch between Shahjahanpur and Bareilly stations. When the train stopped in Bareilly, Dubey, from Ayodhya, was arrested by GRP and sent to jail under IPC section 302 (murder), based on videos and testimonies by passengers. Later, a body was found in Shahjahanpur, and through social media, a man from Bihar's Muzaffarpur, Mohammad Yaqub, identified it as that of his son Ahtab. The family then conducted the last rites in Shahjahanpur. A year after the incident, Ahtab returned home from Gujarat but didn't inform Shahjahanpur police. Villagers in Muzaffarpur made videos of Ahtab and sent them to police and he was brought to UP. He stated in court that he was not on the train that day as he was working in Gujarat in the tailoring and embroidery industry. The court then ordered the release of Dubey, declaring him innocent. Ahtab's father Mohammad Yaqub told the court the body shown to him looked like that of his son, and other members of the family also felt the same way. The brutal murder of the incident was posted on social media and shared widely online. In a 66-second video — purportedly shot by a passenger — several people could be seen laughing and assaulting the man. One of the passengers, identified as Narendra Kumar Dubey, could be seen abusing and pushing him out of the general compartment even as the man was begging for his life. Bengaluru Top Cop Suspended Over Stampede: Here Are Other Cases Of Police Commissioners' Ouster
Last Updated: Police commissioners being suspended following perceived lapses in handling law-and-order situations has been rare in India Karnataka's Siddaramaiah-led government has decided to suspend Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda, along with additional commissioner (West) Vikas Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Central Bengaluru, Shekar H Tekkannanavar, and assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Balakrishna, following the stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium this week that claimed 11 lives and left dozens injured. The action came after the tragedy during celebrations for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's maiden IPL victory that saw an 'uncontrollable" outpouring of fans. Police commissioners being suspended following perceived lapses in handling law-and-order situations has been rare in India. Here are some past instances: Mumbai GRP Commissioner (June 2024)—Ghatkopar Billboard Collapse IPS officer Quaiser Khalid, who was the commissioner of the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Mumbai, was suspended by the Maharashtra government in June 2024. This suspension was for alleged irregularities and 'multiple lapses" in approving a massive hoarding that collapsed in Ghatkopar on May 13, killing 17 people and injuring over 70. The inquiry revealed that Khalid had allegedly granted permission for an oversized hoarding without the necessary approval from the DGP's office and even altered the contract duration. Vijayawada Police Commissioner (September 2024)—Harassment of Actor-Model The case of Kanthi Rana Tata, the then Vijayawada police commissioner (among other IPS officers), being suspended by the Andhra Pradesh government in September 2024, reflects a serious lapse in conduct and abuse of power. These officers were suspended for their alleged involvement in the wrongful arrest and harassment of Mumbai-based actor-model Kadambari Jethwani without a proper investigation. The inquiry found 'prima facie evidence" of 'grave misconduct and dereliction of duty", including instructions for arrest even before an FIR was officially filed. Mumbai Police Commissioner (December 2021/May 2023)—Antilia Bomb Scare Case Param Bir Singh, the Mumbai police commissioner, was suspended in December 2021 following allegations of misconduct and purported mishandling of the Antilia Bomb Scare case. He faced multiple cases of extortion, corruption, and misconduct. His suspension was later revoked by the Maharashtra government in May 2023 after charges were dropped and a Central Administrative Tribunal order. Delhi Police Commissioner (April 1997)—Mistaken Identity Shootout Nikhil Kumar, the Delhi police commissioner, was removed from his post in April 1997. This happened in the furore over the killing of two businessmen near Connaught Place in a case of mistaken identity by the police. The CBI was asked to probe the incident, and all policemen involved were suspended, leading to the commissioner's removal for the major lapse and loss of innocent lives.

Couple thrown off moving train while fighting off robber
Mumbai: A couple was thrown off a moving train and seriously injured while they tried to fight off a robber who attempted to snatch the woman's bag between Bhandup and Kanjurmarg stations on Wednesday. The Kurla Government Railway police (GRP) said that Dipali Deshmukh, 44, a resident of Panvel, was travelling on the LTT Nanded special Express train with her husband, Yogesh Deshmukh, 50, and their nine-year-old daughter when the train slowed down between Kanjurmarg and Bhandup stations. The family was asleep when at 3:50am Dipali felt a tug at her purse. She told the police that she screamed and did not let go of her bag as the thief dragged her towards the door. Her husband, an ayurvedic doctor in Panvel, awoke and tried to help her, but the robber dragged both victims towards the door and pulled them along with him as he jumped off the train. The couple fell onto the tracks and were seriously injured. Dipali said, 'I got up and immediately took my husband to the Fortis hospital as he had injured his arm and shoulder.' Due to the gravity of the injuries, Yogesh's left arm had to be amputated. Based on the couple's complaint, the Kurla GRP has booked the unidentified thief under section 309 (robbery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). In a similar incident, on June 1, another couple, Ayub Khan, 46, and Hina Khan, 42, were targeted by a gang of four robbers on the Jaipur-Bandra Express. The couple tried to fight off the robbers but were threatened at knife-point and robbed of valuables worth ₹700,000.
