Dissolve SIT in burial case immediately or face people's ire, says Chakravarti Sulibele
'The police are following an anonymous man who claims to show them a mass burial site. But it is not yielding any results. Instead, the operation is affecting the reputation of Dharmasthala where no offence can be committed,' he told reporters on Sunday.
'SIT officials are digging up all places being pointed to by the anonymous man and it wouldn't be surprising if they end up digging the entire Dharmasthala. The SIT must immediately stop its operations and instead, an investigation should be carried out against those who made false allegations against Dharmasthala,' he said.
'The SIT has reached a point where it is as though they are desperate to find at least one body based on anonymous claims. The digging work in the area must be stopped immediately. Otherwise, all the people in the State will rise in revolt. If the State government does not dissolve the SIT immediately, there can be a massive agitation. There have already been attempts to defame Hindu leaders and symbols. If this continues, the people will come to the streets and protest. If that happens, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah himself will be held responsible,' he said.
'Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar himself has said that a dangerous conspiracy is at play and that he will reveal it when the time comes. The State government should reveal what it is,' he said.
'For nearly 13 years now, there has been a continuous attempt to tarnish the reputation of the holy place. People are deliberately speaking in a way that casts a black mark on the holy place. There is a deliberate attempt to destroy the faith of Hindus in Dharmasthala. The State government seems to have handed the case over to the SIT under pressure and the Ministers themselves have said so. Let the Chief Minister reveal the source of pressure,' he said.
Apart from digging, advanced technology like GPR was used to detect remnants of bodies underground. But nothing was found there. Is this not the time to interrogate who made such allegations of multiple murders? First, it was said that there were 13 burial places and now, 18 spots have been dug up. How long is this to continue? Should taxpayers money be wasted on baseless allegations?,' he asked.

Making a point: On the election of the Vice-President
The BJP-led NDA and the Congress-led Opposition parties have announced their respective candidates for the post of the Vice-President of India, which fell vacant after the abrupt and intriguing resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21, 2025, setting the stage for a fresh face-off. The numbers are foretold and there is no surprise in store about the outcome. However, this is a significant ideological battle, and both sides see it as such. The NDA's candidate, C.P. Radhakrishnan, is a veteran RSS activist from Tamil Nadu, who has served as a two-term Member of Parliament, from 1998 to 2004. He is the Governor of Maharashtra. The INDIA bloc parties have chosen B. Sudershan Reddy, a retired judge of the Supreme Court of India, born and raised in undivided Andhra Pradesh. The NDA has a majority and is on a drive to canvas additional unattached individual voters and parties such as the BJD and the BRS. The YSRCP, bitterly opposed to the TDP, the NDA's partner, in Andhra Pradesh, has pledged its support to Mr. Radhakrishnan. Justice Reddy's candidacy has set off some regionalist political posturing in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while Mr. Radhakrishnan's has caused the same in Tamil Nadu. On this count, the INDIA bloc managed to push back the NDA's attempt to put the DMK on the defensive ahead of the State Assembly election. The BJP hopes that Mr. Radhakrishnan's elevation will gain it some mileage in the Assembly election. The political messaging cannot be clearer. By offering the second-highest office in the country to a life-long adherent of Hindutva, the BJP has fastened its ties with its mother ship, the RSS. Mr. Radhakrishnan's profile is in stark contrast with Mr. Dhankhar, who was a late entrant into the Sangh Parivar and failed to fit in. The BJP has used state power, which it controls, in a systematic and effective manner to advance Hindutva. Numerous personality clashes notwithstanding, these shared convictions hold the Sangh Parivar together. Not only has the BJP managed to hold its existing partners firmly behind its candidate but it has also managed to win over the YSRCP. As for the Congress and the Opposition, Justice Reddy's candidacy is an assertion of its resistance to the Parivar and an attempt to amplify their social justice slogan. Justice Reddy recently headed the 11-member independent expert working group that had analysed and interpreted the data collected during the Telangana Congress government's Socio, Economic, Education, Employment, Political and Caste (SEEEPC) Survey 2024. They also hope to use this contest as a rallying cry for the Opposition to consolidate against the BJP.

Karnataka Accepts Key Report, To Sub-Categorise Scheduled Castes Into 3 Groups
Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has formally decided to accept a report by Justice HN Nagmohan Das Commission on internal reservation among Scheduled Castes, but with certain modifications. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the decision in the Legislative Assembly earlier today, following a Cabinet meeting last night that cleared the proposal. The one-man commission, set up in November 2024, studied 101 Scheduled Castes across the state and submitted its report on August 1. Based on its findings, the government has now approved sub-categorisation of the 17 per cent SC quota into three groups - SC Left communities (6 per cent), SC Right (6 per cent), and a third combined group (5 per cent). The sub castes, like Paraya and Mogera, initially placed in the SC Left category by the Commission, were shifted back into the SC Right. Thus, the reservation has been slotted at 6 per cent. A decision has also been taken that the Adi Karnataka, Adi Andhra and Adi Dravida groups will be equally divided between the Left and Right categories. The 'touchabl' group (4 per cent) and 59 other castes (1 per cent) recommended as separate groups by the Commission have been merged, with a combined 5 per cent sub-reservation. This grouping was done after altering some of the panel's recommendations, including merging two categories and reassigning certain castes. Siddaramaiah also announced the formation of a Permanent Scheduled Castes Commission to review caste mobility and data from time to time, along with measures such as one-time age relaxation for recruitment and withdrawal of cases against protesters demanding sub-reservation. "The government has fulfilled a long-pending demand of Scheduled Castes by accepting the Justice Nagmohan Das report on internal reservation," the CM said, while reiterating that further changes could be made once new census data is available. However, the proceedings were marred by protests from the Opposition. The BJP, which had demanded a detailed discussion on the issue, staged a walkout after they were not given time to raise their points in the House.

CM announces permanent SC Commission to review categorisation periodically
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday announced a permanent commission for Scheduled Castes to review the categorisation from time to time, based on the mobility of castes within it and available data. Currently, a similar commission for Backward Classes functions in the State. The Chief Minister made the announcement in the Legislature while making a statement on the international reservation cleared by the Cabinet on Tuesday. Defending the Cabinet decision to bring down the number of categories to three from the recommended five, by merging two categories, Mr. Siddaramaiah told the Legislative Assembly that the decision was to ensure social justice and equality among the Scheduled Castes in education, public employment, etc. He said that while the government has decided to withdraw cases against those activists who fought for internal reservation, the Chief Minister also announced that the recruitment process, which has been stopped, will be restarted, and a one-time age relaxation for the eligibility criteria will be given. General census data Stating that the guidelines set by the order of the Supreme Court, which enabled States to implement internal reservation, have been followed, he said that the State government is committed to bringing changes in the categories based on the data that will come out as part of the General Census. 'I am happy to present the report of the commission headed by H.N. Nagamohan Das, which has been modified and accepted by the government. We believe that our decision has brought justice to a decades-long struggle. Our government has proved that Karnataka, which is a developed State, is in the forefront of social justice.' Instead of five categories of A, B, C, D and E recommended by the commission, the Chief Minister said that the government has decided to have Category 'A' for Dalit Left (Madigas) with 6%, Category 'B' for Dalit Right (Holeyas) with 6% and Category 'C' for 'touchables' (Lambani, Bhovi, Korma, Korcha and 59 microscopic communities) with 5%. Mr. Siddaramaiah said that after identifying that the commission had brought Paraya, Mogera and other castes related to the Dalit Right group with the Dalit Left group, the government had decided to bring them with the Dalit Right and increase the quota for the Dalit Right to 6% (the commission had recommended 5%). The population of 4.74 lakh identified as Adi Dravida, Adi Karnataka and Adi Andhra will be equally divided between the Dalit Left and Dalit Right categories, he added. Mr. Siddaramaiah said that a population of 5.22 lakh belonging to 59 castes, which was given 1% under Category 'A', has been grouped with 'touchable' castes that the commission has given a 4% quota due to technical reasons, and the quota for this has been raised to 5%. 'CM running away' In the Assembly, taking exception to the Speaker not allowing them to seek clarifications on the statement made by Mr. Siddaramaiah and also the Chief Minister leaving the House soon after making the statement, the Opposition BJP on Wednesday accused him of 'running away out of fear.' The Opposition BJP-JD(S) members staged a walkout, accusing the Speaker and government of taking away their rights to seek clarification. However, Law Minister H.K. Patil maintained that the internal reservation formula was acceptable to all communities and ridiculed the walkout by the Opposition as a 'political drama'. The Legislative Council too witnessed acrimonious scenes with the Opposition BJP members demanding a clarification. The Chief Minister, however, dismissed the Opposition's demand, stating that the government need not clarify the Cabinet's decision in the House. Leader of the Opposition Chalavadi Narayanaswamy said the Opposition had every right to seek clarification. Intervening, Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan said the previous BJP government lacked the guts to announce internal reservation. Mr. Patil said the BJP was not able to stand the fact that all groups, who were demanding internal reservation, are now lauding the government's decision. Amid a heated debate, Chairman Basavaraj Horatti adjourned the House for a short while.
