A former Heat security officer stole LeBron James' 2013 NBA Finals jersey
Miami Heat's former security officer, who was later revealed as Marcus Thomas Perez, had been accused of stealing millions of dollars' worth of memorabilia.
This included LeBron James' game-worn jersey from the 2013 NBA Finals. The accused later sold those items to online brokers. The press release stated something that shocked everyone: 'Perez was among a limited number of trusted individuals with access to a secured equipment room'.
They further added, 'During his employment, Perez accessed the equipment room multiple times to steal over 400 game-worn jerseys and other items, which he then sold to various online marketplaces. Over a three-year period, Perez sold over 100 stolen items for approximately $2 million and shipped them across state lines, often for prices well below their market value.' He was later charged with 10 years in prison, along with a fine of $250,000.

Villagers kill 2 wolves in Luni after 10 people attacked in 2 days

Jodhpur: After about 10 people were attacked and injured by wolves in the past two days in Luni area of Jodhpur, villagers killed two wolves on Sunday and Monday in retaliatory action. DCF (wildlife) Ramesh Kumar, confirming the killing of two wolves, said bodies of both animals were taken under possession and sent for postmortem. He added that action will be taken against those who killed the animals, as wolves are a protected species under Schedule I of Wildlife Protection Act 1972. "Killing a protected animal is a crime," Kumar said, and attributed the violent behaviour of the wolves to mating season and a sense of protection for their pups. Before this, a wolf was spotted lying dead on a road in the area, believed to have been crushed under some vehicle. Among the people attacked by wolves in the past two days in the area was an old woman. Slamming the inaction of the forest department, president of Bishnoi Tiger Force, Rampal Bhawad, said that the attacks and the killings of the animals by frightened villagers could have been averted if the forest department had taken timely action. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo "The presence of wolves and their attacks on the villagers had already been reported. But the forest department did not swing into action, as a result of which angry villagers killed two wolves," said Bhawad. Wolves have been endemic to this region for years, but their population has drastically declined, mostly due to human intervention. A wildlife enthusiast and crusader for saving the effluent-infested Jojari river, Shravan Patel, said that wolves' habitats were destroyed by shepherds by plugging their dens. "But there was no intervention by the forest department to save them and to spread awareness among villagers," he said. Another wildlife enthusiast, Kewal Ram Bishnoi, attributed the major loss of the wolf population to the growing mining activities along the Luni river. "The entire river basin has been ravaged by gravel mining. There were many wolves around the Luni river from Gudha to Kankani and the pastureland. Some were killed by shepherds while some were displaced by the extensive mining activities," he said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Kodagu supply line keeps K'taka going

Bengaluru: Kodagu has always been the cradle of Indian hockey. The district has produced several international players, including MP Ganesh, MM Somaya, SV Sunil and VR Raghunath, to name just a few. The Karnataka district has been a constant source of inspiration for future generations to continue to earn laurels for the state and country. No wonder that 11 players from Kodagu are part of Karnataka's 18-member squad in the ongoing Junior Men's National Championship in Jalandhar, Punjab. "It is a matter of pride for Kodagu, with so many players from the district featuring in the team. It is primarily because of the history and the legacy Kodagu players have created," coach Thanu Nanjappa told TOI. With one win and loss under their belt, Karnataka have advanced to the quarterfinals. Kodagu's Dhruva BS, who had played in the last Nationals, is leading the state side. "Right from the school level, hockey is popular in Kodagu. There are many competitions at various age levels. It allows young players a chance to showcase their talent," the 19-year-old Dhruva said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Compare Spreads: Bitcoin vs Ethereum CFDs IC Markets Learn More Vishwajith, another player from Kodagu, said: "Hockey has always been in our blood. Our family members are very supportive and they always motivate us, which keeps us going." The popularity of the sport in this district can also be attributed to the Kodava Hockey Festival, which has become integral to the community's culture. The competition within the community helps unite families and generations through the sport. It is unsurprising that youngsters from Kodagu travel to Bengaluru for trials, outnumbering people from other regions. Schools also play an important role in helping the budding talents hone their skills during the formative years. Impressive performances at the school level and in age-group competitions help them get selected to the sports hostels. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
