Assembly bypolls in 5 constituencies to be held on June 19
The Election Commission of India has released the schedule for bypolls in five assembly constituencies across four states. According to the schedule, the bypolls will be held on June 19 and the votes will be counted four days later on June 23.
The bypolls are being conducted to fill the vacancies in five assembly constituencies - Gujarat's Kadi and Visavadar, Kerala's Nilambur, Punjab's Ludhiana West, and West Bengal's Kaliganj.
In Gujarat, the bypolls will held to fill the posts left vacant by Bharatiya Janata Party's MLA from Kadi Karsanbhai Punjabhai Solanki, who passed away in February this year and Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Visavadar, Bhayani Bhupendrabhai Gandubhai, who had resigned.
In Kerala, the Nilambur assembly seats remained vacant after PV Anvar, an LDF-backed MLA, resigned in January this year. He was appointed convenor of the Kerala unit of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), according to ANI.
Punjab's Ludhiana West assembly seat has been vacant since AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi died in January this year. In West Bengal's Kaliganj, the bypolls will be held to fill the assembly seat left vacant by Trinamool Congress MLA Nasiruddin Ahamed, who died in February.
According to the schedule released by the Election Commission, the gazette notification for the bypolls will be issued on Monday, May 26. The last day of making nominations will be June 2 and the last day for the scrutiny of nominations will be June 3.
The last day for the withdrawal of nominations has been decided June 5, which will be followed by voting on June 19 and counting on June 23.
The entire process of election will be completed before June 25, according to the schedule.
While going to cast votes, the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) shall be considered the main document of identification of a voter. However, any of the below mentioned identification documents can also be shown at the polling station:
i. Aadhar Card,
ii. MGNREGA Job Card,
iii. Passbooks with photograph issued by Bank/Post Office,
iv. Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the scheme of
Ministry of Labour,
v. Driving License,
vi. PAN Card,
vii. Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR,
viii. Indian Passport,
ix. Pension document with photograph,
x. Service Identity Cards with photograph issued to employees by
Central/State Govt./PSUs/Public Limited Companies, and
xi. Official identity cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs.
xii. Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card, M/o Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India

Mahua Moitra marries ex- BJD MP Pinaki Misra: Who is firebrand TMC leader's husband?
It's official now. Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Mahua Moitra has married senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Pinaki Misra. The wedding reportedly took place on May 3 in Germany. Moitra confirmed the wedding in a post on X thanking people for 'love and wishes' Born in 1959, Misra is a known politician who has been an MP four times. He was elected to Lok Sabha from Puri in Odisha for the first time in 1996 when he defeated defeating then-Union Minister Braja Kishore Tripathy. Misra was re-elected again in 2009, 2014 and 2019. A senior Advocate in the Supreme Court of India, Misra has had an illustrious political and legal career spanning nearly three decades. NIA raids 32 locations in J&K to probe conspiracy by Pak-based terror outfits
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out searches at 32 locations across Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday to probe a conspiracy hatched by Pakistan-based terror outfits, officials said. The locations were residential premises of hybrid terrorists and overground workers associated with these Pakistan-based offshoots, such as The Resistance Front (TRF), United Liberation Front Jammu and Kashmir (ULFJ&K), Mujahideen Gazwat-ul-Hind (MGH), Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Fighters (JKFF), Kashmir Tigers, People's Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF) and others, they said. All of these outfits are affiliated to proscribed terrorist organisations, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Al-Badr etc., the officials said. The raids were carried out in Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian, Baramulla and Kupwara districts, they added. The searches were part of continuing investigations against a terror conspiracy hatched by Pakistan-backed proscribed terrorist organisations and their offshoots to destabilise Jammu and Kashmir, according to a statement issued by the NIA. Live Events "Thirty-two locations in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir were searched as part of today's crackdown," the statement said. The cadres and workers whose premises were searched are under the NIA's scanner for their involvement in supporting terror activities, such as facilitating terrorists, collection and distribution of sticky bombs or magnetic bombs, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), funds, narcotic substances and arms and ammunition, the statement said. According to the NIA investigations, these offshoots, supported by their leaders in Pakistan, have been conspiring to commit acts of terror and violence by radicalising local youngsters and mobilising overground workers to disturb peace and communal harmony in Jammu and Kashmir. The investigations have revealed that Pakistan-based operatives are using social media platforms and online apps to facilitate and promote terror, the NIA said. "Drones were being used by them to deliver arms/ammunition, explosives, narcotics etc. to their operatives and cadres in the Kashmir valley," the probe agency said. Two live cartridges, a fired bullet head and a bayonet were seized during the searches, it added. Besides, several digital devices containing large volumes of incriminating data and documents have been found by the NIA. These will be subjected to a thorough scrutiny by the agency to unravel the details of the terror conspiracy, the NIA said.
