Amid Deepika Padukone's 8-hour shift demand, Sitaare Zameen Par actress Genelia D'Souza says 'not impossible' on 10-hour workdays
While several stars like Mani Ratnam, Ajay Devgn, Kajol, Kritika Kamra and Chitangda Singh among others have reacted to the topic, the latest one to join them is Sitaare Zameen Par star, Genelia D'Souza read more Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit has reignited the conversation about work-life balance in the entertainment industry. While several stars like Mani Ratnam, Ajay Devgn, Kajol, Kritika Kamra and Chitangda Singh among others have reacted to the topic, the latest one to join them is Sitaare Zameen Par star, Genelia D'Souza. The actress said that working long hours is difficult but not unmanageable. 'It is tough but it is not impossible," Genelia told Zoom. 'I do work for 10 hours a day and there are days when the director asks to extend it to 11 or 12 hours. I think it's fair but we just need time to make those adjustments. When you have a day or two where you have to overdo, it's also an understanding and a process that needs to be done," she added. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD While the fiasco between Deepika and Vanga has been garnering headlines for quite some time, an earlier report emerged discussing the actress's demands for Spirit. 'The actor had reportedly demanded ₹25 crores for approximately 35 days of shoot, along with a 10% profit share, extensive entourage expenses, and even expressed unwillingness to deliver dialogues in Telugu—something the director felt strongly about. To top it off, confidential plot details from Spirit were allegedly leaked, which raised serious concerns among the producers," the source told News18. According to the report, Sandeep 'believes actors speaking their own lines'. 'Contrary to speculation, her restricted filming schedule of under 8 hours a day was never the primary issue. In filmmaking, working hours are fluid and depend on location, lighting, and various technical factors. You could shoot for 2 hours or 8, depending on the scene. What truly matters is flexibility, collaboration, and respect for the craft. It's about commitment. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga believes actors speaking their own lines builds authenticity and emotional connect with the audience," the source added. Genelia is gearing up for the release of Aamir Khan starrer Sitaare Zameen Par, which is releasing this Friday at the box office.

While Kajol, Ajay Devgn and Mani Ratnam supported the actress, Chitrangda Singh, who is basking in the success of Housefull 5, shared that it all depends on an actor's equation with their director and producer. 'This is about the personal relationship between an actor's understanding with the director, the requirements of a director, the requirements of a producer- If they can, I am sure they will manage. But at times there are restrains- restrain of time, restrain of money, scheduling, so it is not possible. So, I think we also have to respect that aspect, because after all, time is money in this industry- everybody is investing in a project," Singh shared while talking to IANS.
