'He's a real cow': Chiefs fans already writing off NEW striker
The Portuguese striker has fired blanks in four of the pre-season matches he played in. Having come from Indonesia, not much was expected from the 29-year-old given the level of football in the country.
Against PEC Zwolle, the Silva struggled while his teammate excelled, especially when in possession. It was the first time this pre-season that Chiefs looked dangerous with the ball and were eventually rewarded when Naledi Hlongwane scored the only goal of the match in the second half.
'Kaizer Chiefs should give Naledi Hlongwane a full game. Silva out for now till he settles in. The kid needs game time and he can be our top score. He is hungry,' @ndlanzibm1 tweeted.
'Chiefs should exercise termination of contracts with mutual agreements to Ethan Chislett & Flavio Da Silva I've seen enough, DDC graduates are miles ahead of them,' @Arthursphere tweeted
@whispersfc wrote: 'I don't see Silva finishing the season with Kaizer Chiefs we even have better strikers in the LFA than him.'
Kaizer Chiefs legend Tsepo Masilela said Silva needs to adapt quickly, or else Kaizer Chiefs fans might start becoming impatient with the striker.
'If you don't start well in pre-season, it already gives a negative impact on the people. Once you play one bad game in the league, they say, 'but what did you expect, we've seen enough during pre-season, this guy is not going to help us'. You need to get result for the confidence of the team,' he said.

Chiefs pay the penalty as Kotoko win Toyota Cup
Skipper Inacio Miguel misses two spot kicks for Chiefs. Mohammed Camara looks on as Kaizer Chiefs captain Inacio Miguel's penalty in normal time flies wide. Camara then saved a Miguel penalty in the shootout to win the Toyota Cup for Asante Kotoko. Gerhard Duraan/BackpagePix Kaizer Chiefs displayed familiar failings on Saturday as they were beaten 3-2 on penalties by Asante Kotoko at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, losing the Toyota Cup for the second season in a row. Mohamed Camara saved Inacio Miguel's spot kick to win the game for the Ghanaian giants, at the end of a chaotic shootout that saw Chiefs miss four penalties to Kotoko's three. It was a horrible moment for the Chiefs captain, who also failed to score from the spot in the latter stages of normal time. Chiefs put up an impressive second half performance, but were as wasteful in front of goal as they were in the whole of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign. If this defeat was far less embarrassing than the 4-0 hammering from Young Africans in the first Toyota Cup a year ago, it still left plenty for Nasreddine Nabi and his coaching staff to ponder. ALSO READ: Lorch edging closer to Sundowns exit A bumpy surface in Durban hardly encouraged slick passing football and both sides struggled to get going, with sand flying up from the pitch with every challenge. New Chiefs signings Nabi started the game with three of his new signings. Nkanyiso Shinga and Thabiso Monyane occupied the full back positions, while Portuguese striker Flavio Da Silva was in attack alongside Chiefs youngster Mfundo Vilakazi and DR Congo winger Glody Lilepo. Lilepo hit an effort from long range in the 13th minute, but despite the ball bouncing just in front of Kotoko 'keeper Mohamed Kamara, he gathered easily. A minute later, Shinga fouled Hilary Adabo on the edge of the box. Emmanuel Antwi sent in a dangerous free kick, and an unmarked Kwame Opoku headed on target but Brandon Peterson tipped over. Set pieces looked like they might be the best chance for both sides to hit the back of the net. In the 27th minute, Chiefs won a free kick, and Da Silva rose highest to meet it, but headed wide. Vilakazi then went close from another dead ball situation, curling just wide from about 25 metres out. In the 36th minute, Chiefs did manage to put some neat passes together on the edge of the Kotoko box, with Lilepo eventually smashing a shot over the bar. Half time changes Nabi made three changes at the break, Mduduzi Shabalala replacing Cele, Wandile Duba coming on for Da Silva and Pule Mmodi replacing Vilakazi. In. the 54th minute, Chiefs put together another good move and the ball fell to Lilepo inside the box, but he took too long to shoot and the danger was cleared. In the 57th minute, Duba came within inches of giving Chiefs the lead. Amakhosi's young attacker put the ball through the legs of his marker and smashed in a fine shot that clattered back off the bar. Kotoko almost shot themselves in the foot in the 67th minute as a Shabalala free kick was sent loopingh towards his own net by Dayda Saaka, but Henry Ansu was on hand to head clear. Glorious chance wasted Just as the game seemed to be drifting towards a penalty shootout, Mmodi went down in the box, and the referee pointed to the spot. Kotoko's players were unimpressed and the contact on Mmodi from Ansu did look insignificant. ALSO READ: No complaints from Ellis after Banyana defeat In the end it didn't matter as Miguel couldn't hit the target, the ball flying wide of Camara's right hand post. The Amakhosi skipper missed another wonderful chance with a weak header in stoppage time, and his misery was complete as Camara dived to his left to stop a pedestrian penalty in the shootout.

Fans hail Thabo Cele despite Kaizer Chiefs' Toyota Cup defeat
Kaizer Chiefs supporters were full of praise for their top midfielder, Thabo Cele, following his performance against Asante Kotoko on Saturday. After the match ended 0-0 after 90 minutes, a penalty shootout was needed to separate the two sides. Asante Kotoko won 3-2 after an intense shootout at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. The 28-year-old Bafana Bafana player orchestrated the midfield alongside Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo. Amakhosi dominated play, especially in the first half, but poor finishing let them down. Although Kaizer Chiefs lost their second successive Toyota Cup match, Thabo Cele has been heavily praised for his performance. Overall, Chiefs looked sharp and competitive compared to what they displayed in the Netherlands. 'I have seen enough, we have player of the season loading here. Thabo Cele is a proper footballer,' @Romeo20040 tweeted. 'Thabo Cele is a very skillful midfielder, if you're not careful when marking him you'll break your ankle,' @PrinceSobayeni1 tweeted. 'Thabo Cele is the only player I would really consider writing their surname on my new Kappa thing, I haven't admired a Chiefs like this in a very long time, Infact the last player I admired like this was Doctor Khumalo,' @Ta_Fitty tweeted. Kaizer Chiefs will open their 2025/16 season against Stellenbosch on 10 August. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Liverpool stunned 4-2 by AC Milan in Hong Kong pre-season friendly
AC Milan's Strahinja Pavlovic (R) fights for the ball with Liverpool's Mohamed Salah during their friendly exhibition football match at the Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong on July 26, 2025. Picture: Peter Parks/AFP Image: Peter Parks/AFP Former Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek scored as Premier League champions Liverpool were beaten 4-2 by AC Milan on Saturday in a pre-season friendly in Hong Kong. Liverpool, with record signing Florian Wirtz making his first start, dominated possession under the closed roof at Kai Tak Stadium but a shaky defence was punished for all four Milan goals. Rafael Leao opened the scoring for the Italian side on 10 minutes with Dominik Szoboszlai's superb strike equalising 16 minutes later to make it 1-1 at half-time But Loftus-Cheek, six minutes after the break, and two goals from substitute Noah Okafor, either side of Cody Gakpo's late header, gave AC Milan the victory. Liverpool's Hong Kong Fans Dominate Sellout Crowd, Pay Tribute to Diogo Jota Liverpool's Hong Kong fans vastly outnumbered those supporting AC Milan in the 49,704 sellout crowd. They paid a heartfelt tribute to Diogo Jota, who passed away earlier this month in a car crash. Flowers were laid by Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish in front of fans, who responded by holding up a mosaic spelling out 'DJ20' in honour of Jota's number 20 shirt, which has been retired by the club. Leao, too, remembered his fellow Portuguese player Jota as he offered a silent prayer and formed the number 20 with his fingers after scoring the opener. Wirtz played 45 minutes and looked comfortable directing operations, showing hints of why Bayer Leverkusen were paid a reported British transfer record $150 million for the German playmaker. Liverpool's New Signings and Squad Updates Other new Liverpool signings left-back Milos Kerkez and right-back Jeremie Frimpong both came on as substitutes at half-time. But Striker Hugo Ekitike, who was signed from Entracht Frankfurt for a reported $92 million, was not ready to take part, having only flown in to join his new teammates two days earlier. Liverpool started without a recognised central striker as Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz, who have both been linked to move away from Anfield, were left out of the matchday squad. Liverpool will now fly to Japan to face Yokohama F-Marinos on Wednesday. Liverpool revealed earlier that full-back Joe Gomez had flown home for treatment on a minor Achilles problem. AFP
