Steelers sign ex-Rams WR who won Super Bowl with L.A. in 2021
A former Los Angeles Rams receiver is once again heading to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Robert Woods, who last played for the Rams when they won the Super Bowl in 2021, reportedly signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Steelers, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Woods, 33, spent the past two seasons with the Houston Texans after one year with the Tennessee Titans prior to his five years with the Rams. He caught 367 receptions for 4,626 yards and 26 touchdowns in 68 games for L.A.
His time with the Rams ended abruptly, though, after Woods tore his ACL in 2021, months before the team won Super Bowl LVI over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Age and injuries caught up to him over the past few years, though, as he's only caught 113 receptions for 1,156 yards and three touchdowns in 46 games since 2022.
Woods formed one of the best receiver duos in the NFL alongside Cooper Kupp during their time together in L.A. Now, the Rams have a new twosome in Puka Nacua and Davante Adams.
The Woods deal is funny because, as Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette pointed out, Woods is the fourth former Rams wideout to join the Steelers over the past several years. Pittsburgh has also signed Allen Robinson (2023), Van Jefferson (2024) and Ben Skowronek (2024).
He now joins a younger receiver corps in Pittsburgh with D.K. Metcalf and George Pickens. The quarterback remains a mystery, though, as the Steelers appear to be interested in Aaron Rodgers or would have to start Mason Rudolph of 2025 sixth-rounder Will Howard.

Border Patrol will be at the Club World Cup, says it's routine to provide security for such events

Associated Press U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it regularly provides security at big sporting events in response to questions about the agency's presence at the FIFA Club World Cup amid President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown. "U.S. Customs and Border Protection is committed to working with our local and federal partners to ensure the FIFA Club World Cup 26 is safe for everyone involved, as we do with every major sporting event, including the Super Bowl. Our mission remains unchanged," the agency said Thursday in response to an inquiry by The Associated Press. The agency had previously deleted a social media post that said its officers would be 'suited and booted' for the opening round this weekend of Club World Cup games. FIFA President Gianni Infantino addressed questions about CBP involvement during an event earlier this week promoting Saturday's opener between Inter Miami and Al Ahly at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. 'No, I don't have any concerns about anything in the sense that we are already attentive on any security question," Infantino said. "Of course, the most important for us is to guarantee security for all fans who come to the games. And this is our priority.' Border Patrol agents have routinely been called in to help with security for large events, including the Super Bowl. They handle things like screening cargo shipments into stadiums for hazardous materials and contribute to emergency planning. At last year's Copa America final at Hard Rock Stadium, throngs of fans breached security gates and forced the game to be delayed. The Club World Cup opener Saturday comes amid protests in several cities over actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. The Club World Cup features 32 teams from across the globe playing in 11 cities nationwide through July 13. ___ AP soccer: in this topic

Steelers rookie QB Will Howard blown away by DK Metcalf's work ethic and leadership

Steelers rookie QB Will Howard blown away by DK Metcalf's work ethic and leadership It's hard not to be impressed with DK Metcalf — just ask Steelers rookie Will Howard. After Thursday's practice at mandatory minicamp, Howard couldn't stop praising the 6'4' Steelers receiver (courtesy of Steelers Live): 'I mean, just look at the guy. He's a specimen. He's something else. Just the way he covers ground in his strides — and the way that he works,' Howard said. 'You see a lot of guys like that — it's rare to see somebody that's willing to catch for a rookie quarterback on any route he needs. You know, 'Hey DK, can you go spot up a corner for me?' 'No problem.' He's super hardworking — just respectful, goes about his business, and a great dude too. If I make a good play, he's coming over to me and dapping me up. He's been awesome, man, and I'm excited to get to work with him.' Here's to hoping the young signal caller develops into the Steelers' long-term starting QB — and that the Howard-to-Metcalf connection is one fans can look forward to for years to come. Knicks next coach odds take unexpected turn after latest interview denial

Knicks next coach odds take unexpected turn after latest interview denial The New York Knicks appear to be having a hard time finding a head coach. Rather than having an available name lined up when they decided to fire Tom Thibodeau last week, the Knicks have been trying to poach a coach from another team. So far, that plan has been a massive failure, with ESPN's Shams Charania reporting Wednesday that the Atlanta Hawks denied New York's request to speak with their head coach -- the fifth known team to do so. So, where do the Knicks turn now? The Athletic's Sam Amick reported Thursday the team is now focusing on Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins as targets. And now Brown is the new +105 favorite at DraftKings to land the job. Unlike, Atlanta's Quin Snyder — and Jason Kidd, Ime Udoka, Chris Finch and Billy Donovan before him — Brown is not currently on a team. He was fired by the Sacramento Kings back in December. After Brown, Jenkins, who was fired by the Memphis Grizzlies in March, has the next best odds at +175. They're followed by ex-Cleveland Cavaliers and Knicks assistant Johnnie Bryant (+350) and ex-Nuggets coach Michael Malone (+500), the two former favorites whose odds have dropped since the latest reporting.
