AU recently held a meeting with correspondents and principals of its affiliate colleges.
Speaking on the occasion, the vice-chancellor said that examinations must be conducted strictly and systematically. "I have observed certain shortcomings in recent days, and measures are being taken to address all of them. Any examination centre found to be negligent or lax in conducting exams will not only be disqualified, but the concerned college may also risk losing its affiliation.
The performance of B.Ed and law colleges should be improved.
As part of the centenary celebrations, faculty development programmes will soon be launched involving affiliated colleges. Rural outreach initiatives will also be introduced in collaboration with AU-affiliated colleges located in rural areas, and the relevant guidelines will be announced shortly. A faculty mentorship system is also being introduced to provide necessary career guidance to faculty working in affiliated colleges," said Prof.
Rajasekhar.
He stressed that affiliated colleges are an integral part of the institute and that it is essential to ensure students studying in these colleges do not face any inconvenience. The university is prepared to provide the necessary support and guidance to affiliated colleges, he added.

Waymo expands US robotaxi operations, taps Avis for Dallas fleet management
Alphabet-owned autonomous vehicle firm Waymo has announced plans to launch its robotaxi service in Dallas next year, marking a strategic move to broaden its footprint across the United States. The company will operate in partnership with Avis Budget Group, which will manage fleet operations for the service. This partnership represents the first time Avis is directly involved in supporting a robotaxi fleet. Under the arrangement, customers will book rides through Waymo's mobile application, while Avis will be responsible for vehicle maintenance, infrastructure, readiness, and depot operations. The companies confirmed that the Dallas project is part of a multi-year agreement, with intentions to extend the collaboration to other US cities over time. Avis's involvement in robotaxi fleet services positions it as a potential rival to Uber and Lyft, both of which are also investing in autonomous vehicle operations through collaborations with technology partners. The announcement reflects the complex dynamic between Waymo and Uber, which act as both collaborators and competitors in the autonomous mobility space. Waymo currently operates ride services via its app in Phoenix, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, while also offering rides through Uber's app in Phoenix, Austin, and Atlanta. In Austin and Atlanta, Waymo's fleet operations are handled by Avomo, a company backed by Uber. In Miami, where Waymo is set to launch next year, the company will rely on infrastructure support from Moove, another Uber-affiliated fleet manager. Dallas is expected to become a competitive market for autonomous ridesharing, with both Uber and Lyft planning their own driverless offerings. Uber is working with local startup Avride for a deployment later this year, while Lyft aims to roll out its service in collaboration with Mobileye, an Intel spin-off, in 2026. Waymo has been steadily expanding its presence in recent months. The firm recently extended its operational area in Austin and has commenced testing in New York City. It has also announced plans to begin trials in Philadelphia, signalling continued growth amid mounting competition, particularly from Tesla, which is also pursuing autonomous ride services. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has recorded a sharp rise in textbook sales this year, earning 526 crore in 2023-24, a 127% increase compared to 232 crore in 2022– attribute this spike to two major developments: the centralised crackdown on textbook piracy and the implementation of new curriculum frameworks under the National Education Policy (NEP) the country's apex body for school curriculum and textbook development, has long struggled with the challenge of piracy. For years, pirated versions of its books, cheaper and often riddled with errors, flooded the market, particularly in states where distribution was last year, the education ministry and NCERT jointly stepped up efforts to curb the sale of illegal were conducted in multiple cities, printers were booked, and enforcement agencies were tasked with tracking the supply chain of pirated books.'Retailers and distributors became cautious,' said a senior NCERT official. 'With tighter oversight and more awareness among parents and schools, the demand shifted back to original books.'CURRICULUM CHANGES AND NEP ROLLOUT DRIVE DEMAND FOR NEW NCERTAlongside enforcement, another factor has played a key role, curriculum academic year 2023–24 marked the rollout of new textbooks for Classes 3 and 6, based on the revised National Curriculum Framework (NCF). This led to a nationwide demand for updated NCERT textbooks, especially in CBSE-affiliated to NCERT data, over 9 crore textbooks were sold last year. The surge, officials believe, is not a one-time jump but part of a broader shift in the textbook supply publishers, who earlier cornered a major share of textbook sales in CBSE schools, are now seeing competition from the public publisher. 'There's been a growing preference for NCERT titles, especially after the NEP push,' said a Delhi-based school council is now preparing to release updated textbooks for more classes under the new curriculum guidelines. Officials say a fresh round of textbooks is being written for Classes 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 11, which will be introduced in the 2024–25 academic has also expanded its digital offerings through ePathshala and other portals, making its content more accessible to students in remote now, the focus remains on streamlining printing, improving distribution, and ensuring that updated content reaches every student without delay.- Ends

Nephrocare Health Services Limited, widely recognized under the brand name NephroPlus, has filed a Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to raise ₹353.4 crore through an initial public offering (IPO). The Hyderabad-based company plans to use the proceeds to expand its network of dialysis clinics across India and repay outstanding debt, with the balance allocated to general corporate purposes. Advertisement The IPO will include a fresh issue of equity shares worth ₹353.4 crore and an offer-for-sale (OFS) of up to 1.27 crore equity shares by promoter and non-promoter shareholders. Among the OFS participants are Investcorp Private Equity Fund II, Healthcare Parent Limited, Edoras Investment Holdings Pte. Ltd., and 360 One Special Opportunities Fund. The company may also consider a pre-IPO placement of up to ₹70.6 crore, which would reduce the size of the fresh issue accordingly. Asia's Largest Dialysis Service Provider Established in 2009, NephroPlus has emerged as Asia's largest dialysis services provider and the fifth-largest globally in terms of the number of treatments performed in FY25, according to a Frost & Sullivan report. As of now, the company operates 447 clinics across 269 cities in 21 Indian states and 4 Union Territories, serving over 33,000 patients annually. NephroPlus commands more than 50 percent revenue market share in India's organised dialysis services market. Advertisement NephroPlus has also made a significant push into international markets. It currently operates 34 clinics in the Philippines, 5 in Nepal, 4 in Uzbekistan, and recently entered Saudi Arabia in a bid to tap the Middle East healthcare market. The company's promoters include Vikram Vuppala, BVP Trust (Bessemer Venture Partners), and Investcorp-affiliated entities. Proceeds to Fuel Domestic Expansion As per the DRHP, NephroPlus will allocate ₹129.1 crore from the fresh issue proceeds towards setting up new dialysis clinics in India, which aligns with its strategy to grow its domestic footprint. An additional ₹136 crore will be used to pre-pay or repay certain existing borrowings, enhancing the company's financial flexibility and improving its balance sheet. Advertisement In FY25, the company reported ₹755.8 crore in revenue from operations and a profit after tax of ₹67 crore, reflecting robust growth amid increasing demand for kidney care services. With chronic kidney disease (CKD) rising as the third fastest-growing cause of death globally, and diabetes and hypertension being its primary drivers, NephroPlus is well-positioned to benefit from secular health trends. ICICI Securities, Ambit Private Limited, IIFL Capital Services, and Nomura Financial Advisory and Securities (India) are acting as Book Running Lead Managers (BRLMs) for the IPO.
