Accenture is giving consulting a new name as it doubles down on AI: 'reinvention services'

After more than 35 years in the business, Accenture is giving consulting a new name: "reinvention services."
The global consulting firm reported its earnings on Friday, highlighting a generally positive performance for the third fiscal quarter of 2025. The firm reported revenue of $17.7 billion, an 8% increase from this time last year.
While new bookings were down 6% compared to the third quarter in 2024, Accenture CEO Julie Sweet told CNBC on Friday that the firm was "really pleased" with its bookings and that demand for its services could be seen in its revenue.
Sweet said on the earnings call that AI is the firm's strongest bet for creating new demand and that to maximize AI's potential, the firm is consolidating its strategy, consulting, song, technology, and operations services into a single unit known as "reinvention services," starting September 1.
"What we're going to do now is make it even easier to bring those solutions, embed data and AI, so we can really scale across our client base and into new markets using our reinvention services," Sweet told CNBC.
What consultants do sometimes needs to be explained, and "reinvention services" is no exception.
In both her CNBC interview and the earnings call on Friday, Sweet shared several examples of the company's AI-powered reinvention work, which — following its reorganization — the firm will be able to execute more efficiently, she said.
In one example, she said Accenture is working with Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri to launch the first AI-powered ship in 2025.
Sweet told CNBC that the ship will be able to "predict its maintenance, manage its energy use on its own, and talk to the dock" before it arrives at its destination.
She said Accenture's work to modernize the manufacturing process for Bel, maker of Laughing Cow cheese, would also fall under this new department, as would its collaboration with Brazilian mining company Vale to expedite environmental licensing and permits.
She also said the firm is creating AI-generated 3D avatars of physical products for coffee brands like Nescafé, Dolce Gusto, and Nespresso to reduce the time and cost of developing marketing campaigns, which would also fall under the new reinvention services department.
Sweet told CNBC that AI can be a "tool" to help companies navigate the future, but to reap the benefits, it will also need to be "disruptive."

Arbitration Win Extends Venture Global LNG Win Streak

Big LNG export firm Venture Global emerged victorious in its arbitration case with Shell on Tuesday, August 12 in a case involving claims it had failed to deliver liquefied natural gas under long-term contracts starting in 2023. The arbitration panel's favorable ruling frees the company from potential liability in the case, extending a string of positive developments related to its U.S. LNG operations. 'We are pleased with the tribunal's determination which reaffirms what Venture Global has maintained from the outset--the plain language in our contracts, mutually agreed upon with all of our customers, is clear. We have consistently honored these agreements without exception," the company said in a statement. "The world needs more abundant, low-cost energy and our company looks forward to playing a leading role in meeting that demand for years to come.' A Streak Of Good News For Venture Global's LNG Projects The news of the arbitration ruling came on the same day Venture Global reported second quarter earnings which exceeded expectations. Revenues for the months of April through June came in at $3.1 billion with net income of more than $400 million. Earlier in August, the company received a positive decision from the U.S. Department of Energy when Energy Secretary Chris Wright signed a final authorization for additional gas exports to non-free trade agreement (non-FTA) countries from the Calcasieu Pass project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. Signaling the event as a return to 'regular order' on LNG exports following 2024's year-long pause by former President Joe Biden on permitting related to the industry, Sec. Wright said, 'Thanks to President Trump's leadership, the United States has made massive leaps in unleashing LNG dominance. Today's authorization is another reminder that this administration is committed to expanding the supply of abundant, affordable, and secure American energy. The data over the past 10 years of U.S. LNG exports clearly shows that we can lead the world in energy production while lowering energy costs here at home.' A month ago, on July 16, Venture Global announced a new deal to beef up its supply commitments, finalizing a long-term, 20-year agreement with Italian national oil company ENI to export 2 million metric tonnes per year of LNG from its CP2 LNG terminal. The CP2 project is currently under development, with deliveries set to commence by the end of 2027. Less than 2 weeks later, on July 28, Venture Global was able to announce the greenlighting of construction at CP2 after it was able to secure $15.1 billion in capital financing for the project. It was the largest such announcement in the U.S. LNG sector thus far in 2025. Once completed, CP2 will have an expected production capacity of 28 million metric tons per annum (MTPA), which would make Venture Global one of the two largest LNG exporters in the U.S. along with Cheniere Energy. 'We are extremely proud to have taken FID on our third greenfield project in under 6 years with over $80 billion in capital markets transactions executed to date,' said Venture Global CEO Mike Sabel said in a release. 'This success would not be possible without the dedication and relentless execution of the entire Venture Global team. Our significant early investments and work on the project make CP2 the most advanced project at FID to date. This project, fully owned by Venture Global and our shareholders, is expected to deliver reliable American LNG to the world beginning in 2027.' A Bright Road Ahead For U.S. LNG No sector of the U.S. energy economy has benefitted more from the sea change in energy policy brought to bear since January 20 by President Donald Trump and his key energy-related appointees, like Sec. Wright, Interior Sec. Doug Burgum, and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin. After spending most of 2024 in a state of uncertainty under the yoke of Biden's permitting 'pause' - which many feared would become permanent policy in a Kamala Harris presidency - this is an industry now in full boom mode again. Already the world's largest supplier of LNG, the U.S. industry seems certain to continue to expand amid exploding global demand and a newly favorable policy environment. Thus far in 2025, Venture Global has been one of the biggest winners in the LNG sweepstakes.

Glass Lewis confirms advice to Mediobanca investors to back Banca Generali bid

MILAN (Reuters) -Leading governance adviser Glass Lewis on Wednesday confirmed its recommendation to Mediobanca shareholders for a vote in favour of the bid to acquire private bank Banca Generali, a document showed. The vote to be held on Aug. 21 had initially been scheduled for June 16. It was postponed as the proposal risked lacking sufficient support due to friction between the Italian merchant bank's top management and some of its leading investors. "We continue to believe that Mediobanca shareholders should support the company's proposal," Glass Lewis wrote in a report seen by Reuters. "We find no reason to amend our prior recommendation at this time," it added. Rival proxy adviser Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) last week also reiterated its recommendation for a "yes" vote. Mediobanca in April unveiled its plan to buy Banca Generali and create Italy's second-largest wealth manager, as it seeks to thwart a takeover bid from Monte dei Paschi di Siena. The takeover attempt, one of a dozen M&A deals reshaping Italian banking, has opened up a battlefront between Mediobanca CEO Alberto Nagel and two top domestic shareholders who have recently also become the main investors in Monte dei Paschi. EG Group: Billionaire Issa brothers sell £367m Italian arm

EG Group, the empire co-founded by a major investor in supermarket giant Asda, has sold its Italian division in a deal which values it at €425m (£367m). The Blackburn-headquartered group has agreed terms with a consortium of established Italian operators comprising PAD Multienergy S.p.A., Vega Carburanti S.p.A., Toil S.p.A., Dilella Invest S.p.A. and GIAP s.r.l. In a statement, EG Group said the move represented 'another positive step' in its 'ongoing strategy to focus on its core markets and strengthen its balance sheet'. EG Group was founded by billionaire brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa and is now co-owned by private equity giant TDR Capital. Russ Colaco, CEO of EG Group, said: 'We remain relentlessly focused on driving forward EG group's growth strategy. 'This important transaction is fully aligned with this strategy, as we continue to focus on our core markets with the greatest growth potential and deliver on our deleveraging programme. 'We are grateful to our colleagues in Italy for their hard work and dedication, and we wish the business continued success in the future.' The news comes after Zuber Issa told the FT that he thought EG Group should sell its US arm instead of floating the entire group in New York. On the deal, a statement from the consortium said: 'The acquisition of EG Italia allows us to generate new and key synergies for the development of the fuel stations network with the expansion of the services offered also with a view to the energy transition. 'The EG network together with the networks of the Consortium members, all leaders in their reference territories, will enhance the know-how and skills of the EG Italia organization, heir to the culture of Esso Italiana since 2018.' The transaction is subject to antitrust and other regulatory approvals, with completion expected by the end of 2025. BofA Securities acted as exclusive financial advisors and A&O Shearman as legal advisors to EG Group on the transaction. Profit almost wiped out at EG Group In June, City AM reported that EG Group's pre-tax profit was slashed from $1.4bn to just $10m in 2024. EG Group said the change to its pre-tax profit was 'largely driven by the material exceptional gain that the group reported following the divestment of the majority of the UK business in October 2023 and the profit from the USA sale and leaseback transaction which completed in May 2023'. Before those exceptional items, the group made a pre-tax loss of $195m but it generated a profit of $205m from divestments. In 2023, the group made a pre-tax loss of $125m before exceptional items which generated a profit of $1.5bn The deal in the autumn of 2023 saw the group sell its remaining UK forecourt business and certain foodservice locations to co-founder Zuber Issa for £228m. Following the deal, Zuber Issa stepped down from his role as co-chief executive and became a non-executive director. At the same time, Zuber Issa sold his shares in Asda to TDR Capital, making the private equity giant its majority shareholder. Moshin remains a significant shareholder in Asda. The results also showed that EG Group's revenue declined from $28.3bn to $24.1m over the year. The group said its sales had declined as a result of the fall in fuel prices and the impact of its divestments over the past two years.
