Bengal: Howrah sex racket prime accused held, kingpin still absconding

The Printa day ago

Ariyan was arrested after being on the run for five days, the officer said, adding that his mother and the key accused in the case, Shweta Khan alias Fultusi, still remains absconding.
Besides Ariyan, one of his accomplices, a minor, has also been apprehended from Narendrapur in South 24 Parganas, the police said.
Kolkata, Jun 11 (PTI) The West Bengal Police on Wednesday arrested Ariyan Khan, one of the prime accused in the Howrah shady film racket, from a hideout in the Golf Green area of south Kolkata, a senior officer said.
'We have held Ariyan from a residence in Golf Green. He is currently being questioned. We will share the details of our investigation with you in some time,' Howrah Police Commissioner Praveen Tripathi told reporters.
A team of Howrah City Police personnel picked up Ariyan at around 11 am from an intersection on Prince Ghulam Mohammad Shah Road under Golf Green PS when he was trying to move to a residence of his acquaintance, sources said.
Another team had raided a house on Deshapran Sashmal Road in the neighbourhood late Tuesday evening after receiving a tip-off that Shweta could be hiding there, but failed to catch the suspect.
Earlier, Howrah City Police had detained Shweta's mother for questioning.
Shweta's youngest child, her three-year-old daughter, has also been rescued by the police from the residence of an unidentified person in Kolkata.
Shocking events came to light last week after a 22-year-old woman from the Panihati area in North 24 Parganas managed to escape the clutches of the mother-son duo who had allegedly confined her in their Bankra-Fakirpara flat in Domjur, Howrah for the previous five months and mercilessly tortured her for not agreeing to work as a bar dancer.
She allegedly was lured by Ariyan to his Domjur property, Ishara Productions, under the pretext of offering a job at his event management company, which the police have now confirmed to be a fake entity and a front for the racket run by the mother-son duo.
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at the Critical Care Unit at the state-run Sagar Dutta Hospital with serious and multiple injuries on her head, limbs and internal organs.
The woman alleged that she was regularly assaulted by Shweta, who broke the victim's hands, feet and teeth and was beaten up with iron rods and left starving after she refused to accede to her demands.
The police confirmed that the minor, who was picked up alongside Ariyan, was also directly involved in the torture.
Ariyan, police said, was slapped with relevant non-bailable sections under the BNS for attempt to murder, causing grievous hurt and outrage of modesty, among others.
The details of the case popped up in public domain, subsequent to the victim alerting the police about bar dancer Shweta's modus operandi of luring girls through her son's fake event management firm and then forcing them to work as dancers in shady bars.
Locals alleged that the family ran a unit of making pornography films from the Domjur property.
Taking suo-motu cognizance of the case, the National Commission for Women has written to the West Bengal DGP seeking an action-taken report within the next 48 hours.
'The commission strongly condemns this barbaric act and Hon'ble Chairperson NCW has written to the DGP of West Bengal seeking immediate arrest of the accused under relevant provisions of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and has also directed that the victim be provided with free medical care and psychological counselling. A detailed action taken report must be submitted to the commission within 3 days,' the NCW wrote on X on Tuesday evening.
The victim's mother has also reportedly written to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, demanding immediate arrest of the accused, seeking justice for her daughter after reports that her physical condition deteriorated since Tuesday evening.
'I have written to the chief minister seeking justice for my daughter, whose condition remains critical. I have faith in her administration. I am happy that Ariyan has now been arrested. But his mother, who is the kingpin of the racket, must also be arrested without delay,' she told a Bengali news channel. PTI SMY BDC

Bengaluru man prints fake notes during week-long stay in hotel, lands in police net

Bengaluru: When 23-year-old Krish Mali, son of a textile businessman, walked out of his house after a fight with his parents, he was too angry to consider how long he could survive on his own. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now When it eventually hit him that his needs far outstripped the capacity of his wallet, he decided to get creative and make money — literally. Mali, a resident of Thoppa Mudaliyar Street in Shivajinagar, has now landed in police net for printing counterfeit notes while renting a hotel room in Tasker Town from June 1 to 7. According to the complaint filed by Hotel High Street manager Mohammed Sarifuddin with Commercial Street police, Mali had booked a room for two days initially. He later extended the booking twice, first online and then offline for the last two days. While checking out around 1pm on June 7, he paid Rs 3,000 in cash, producing six notes of Rs 500 face value at the reception. However, in the early hours of the same day, some pourakarmikas working with BBMP had found a few counterfeit notes when they picked up garbage from the hotel. They informed the hotel management, which confirmed the notes were fake but had no idea who had disposed of them. After Mali checked out, the hotel staff grew suspicious and examined the notes he had given — and voila, they proved to be counterfeit. Sarifuddin and a few other hotel staff went to the room Mali had occupied and found a few notes in the dustbin. Subsequently, Sarifuddin lodged a police complaint, handing over five fake notes as evidence. Paper sheets used to print the counterfeit notes were also found in the room. A senior cop said Mali was nabbed from the address on his Aadhaar card, which he had furnished when checking into the hotel. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now During interrogation, he is said to have confessed that he walked out of his house after a fight over a trivial matter. He then rented the hotel room, smuggled in a printer and scanner inside a bag, and made copies of a real Rs 500 note. While he managed to scan, print and cut some notes to the actual size, a few came out poorly and were tossed in the bin. The youth has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody. A case has been registered under BNS Sections 179 (using as genuine, forged or counterfeit coin, govt stamp, currency notes or banknotes), 180 (possession of forged or counterfeit coin, govt stamp, currency notes or banknotes), 182 (making or using documents resembling currency notes or banknotes), and 318 (cheating). Police are probing to see if Mali had paid in counterfeit notes at any other place.

Culpable homicide FIR against five of pvt firm after garden's gate crash

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Five individuals associated with the private firm responsible for Siddharth Garden's construction and maintenance were booked for culpable homicide and other offences on Thursday, a day after the collapse of the garden's entrance gate that left two women dead. The Kranti Chowk police said the five individuals linked to Prakash Developers included the garden project management consultant and the architect. They have been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 125 (endangering life or personal safety of others through rash or negligent behaviour) and 3 (criminal act done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention of all), among other charges. The FIR was registered after deputy engineer associated with the build-operate-transfer Sanjay Chamale registered a complaint with the police, accusing the private firm of substandard quality construction of the entry gate and not maintaining it properly. The entrance gate of the garden and nearby shops, among other facilities, were completed on June 23, 2022, on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract. Under BOT contract, a private entity finances, builds and operates a facility or infrastructure for a specific period, after which it is transferred back to the public entity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 임플란트 최대 할인 지원해드려요 임플란터 더 알아보기 Undo Kranti Chowk police station in-charge Sunil Mane said no arrests were in the case till Thursday evening. "We are investigating the ownership and promoter details of the accused private firm. Necessary action will be taken after the initial inquiry is complete," the officer said. Civic activists have called for strict action against municipal officials who failed to ensure the garden's proper maintenance by the private firm, despite highlighting safety concerns about the entrance gate last Nov. Records show that the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation wrote to the firm on Nov 6 last year, pointing out safety issues, but no follow-up action was taken. "It was the duty of the civic officials to prevail upon the private firm and ensure proper upkeep of the facility. Merely writing a letter and then doing nothing to ensure public safety is also a grave crime," civic activist Rajendra Datey Patil said. Top civic officials could not be reached for their comments till going to press. The Siddharth Garden also houses the only zoo in Marathwada and witnesses a heavy footfall of visitors. Six-month-old girl dies in Karnataka after quack administers injections

Bengaluru: A quack in his 50s has landed in police custody in Ramanagara, Bengaluru south district, on charges of causing death of a six-month-old girl by administering injections. The accused is identified as Mohammed Saifulla, who ran his Alkhair Foundation Clinic in Balageri. Based on a complaint filed by the child's father, Ramanagara Town police booked Saifulla under BNS Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). Saifulla lived in Balagere with his wife, police said. District health officials raided his clinic and seized it. Health officer Dr Niranjan declared him a quack. "He has no licence, nor has he studied MBBS. He could be a pharmacist, which we have to verify. But whatever the case, he is not a doctor and cannot treat patients," he said. Saifulla has been handed over to judicial custody. "We will take him to police custody during investigation, which will begin soon," a senior cop said. Police suspect Saifulla has been running his illegal clinic for close to a year, and locals thought he was a general physician. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo The incident occurred when R Shivaraj, a driver, took his six-month-old daughter Sharanya to Saifulla on Tuesday night. We called Saifulla, but he casually said the child would cry from the pain of injections. For breathing issues, he asked us to use nasal drops. But she continued to cry. However, after 5am, she slept. The following morning (Wednesday), we took her to another doctor, and he declared her brought dead. Shocked, we sought an explanation from Saifulla, but he just asked us to take the child to a govt hospital and said nothing when we told him that she died due to his treatment," Shivaraj stated in his complaint.
