Motorist is caught driving at 200MPH in record-breaking German speeding ticket
The motorist, whose identity has not been made public, was nabbed during a routine check on the A2 highway near Burg, just west of Berlin, on July 28.
Police in Magdeburg said the driver was hit with a €900 (£784) fine, handed a three-month driving ban, and had two points taken off their licence.
The car was caught by a stationary radar system known as an Enforcement Trailer.
A display on the device showed what police called 'the highest record speed'.
Germany 's Autobahn (motorways) is famous around the world for stretches with no speed limit, but not every part is unrestricted.
Speed limits do apply to approximately 30 per cent of the roads. According to RAC, a further 9 per cent use traffic systems to ensure smooth operations.
Some sections have strict limits, especially in areas with more traffic or higher risk.
The stretch of road where the driver was caught has a speed limit of 120kph (74.5mph).
The controversial debate over whether to keep the no-limit policy in some areas has gone on for years, with officials and car enthusiasts often divided on the issue.
While the Greens and Social Democrats have stressed the need for speed limits, citing safety and the environmental impact, groups such as the FDP say it is a matter of personal choice.

The sight of so many bikes speeding and being driven dangerously had 'scared' customers West Yorkshire Police's Sergeant Caroline Loran said: 'We and colleagues from the anti-social vehicle team are continuing to investigate following incidents of illegal and clearly dangerous riding in parts of Huddersfield on Sunday. 'I want to reassure residents that a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to identify and bring to justice persons involved in this activity such as thorough checks of CCTV, including that at nearby garages, and enquiries regarding the vehicles used themselves.
