As part of its state-wide campaign to enhance transparency and public accountability, the Telangana State Right to Information (RTI) Commission started its district-level tours with Medak as the first stop on Tuesday (July 29, 2025).
State Chief Information Commissioner Chandrasekhar Reddy, along with Commissioners Boreddy Ayodhya Reddy, Desham Bhupal, P.V. Srinivas Rao, Mohisin Parveen, and Merla Vaishnavi, conducted a series of meetings and awareness programmes at the Medak Integrated Collectorate Office.
An RTI awareness conference held at Prajavani Hall aimed at training Public Information Officers (PIOs) on the legal provisions and responsibilities under the RTI Act. District Collector Rahul Raj was present.
Mr. Chandrasekhar Reddy highlighted the importance of the RTI Act and revealed that 18,000 cases are currently pending with the Commission, primarily due to the lack of response from departments over the past decade. He stressed the need for government offices to establish citizen charter boards and respond to information requests within 30 days, as mandated by law.
He also announced that the Commission has resolved to clear all pending cases by August and is working on achieving zero pendency in 30 departments within the next two months. He added that awareness initiatives have already covered 11 districts, and by March next year, the Commission aims to bring transparency to all 22 districts by ensuring that 17 departments provide complete solutions to pending applications.

Even 24 hours after publication of Bihar draft rolls no political party has filed objections: ECI

NEW DELHI: Amid a major political storm over the Election Commission of India's (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar electoral rolls, the poll panel on Saturday said that despite 24 hours having passed since the draft rolls were published, none of the political parties have filed even a single case of claims and objections. Meanwhile, the Commission has approved a substantial hike in the honorarium for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Supervisors, along with newly introduced payouts for senior officials overseeing electoral roll management. In an official statement, the poll panel said, the draft Electoral Rolls of all the 90,712 polling booths of all 243 assembly constituencies have been shared with all the political parties by all 38 DEOs of Bihar on 1 August 2025. It, however, said, 'From 1 August 2025 (3 PM) till 2 August (3 PM), all political parties put together, have filed 'Zero' Claims and Objections for the addition of the names of eligible electors and deletion of the names of ineligible electors.'

Bihar electoral roll revision: EC doubles annual remuneration of booth level officers to Rs 12,000

The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday said it has doubled the annual remuneration of its booth-level officers (BLOs), the grassroots-level functionaries who help it prepare electoral rolls. Since 2015, the BLOs, who help the EC prepare and update the voters' list at the booth level, were getting Rs 6,000 per annum for their work. The amount now stands at Rs 12,000 annually. The BLOs are mostly teachers or other state government employees who take care of addition or deletion of voters in their particular booth. According to new EC norms, one booth will not have more than 1,200 voters. Besides this, the Commission had also approved a special incentive of Rs 6,000 for the BLOs for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters' list starting from Bihar, where the exercise is ongoing. The poll authority said it has also enhanced remuneration for BLO supervisors from the present Rs 12,000 per annum to Rs 18,000 per annum. It will now also give honorarium to electoral registration officers (EROs) and assistant EROs (AEROs) to the tune of Rs 30,000 and Rs 25,000 per annum respectively. 'Pure electoral rolls are the bedrock of democracy. The electoral roll machinery, consisting of electoral registration officers, assistant electoral registration officers, BLO supervisors and booth level officers, do a lot of hard work and play a pivotal role in the preparation of impartial and transparent electoral rolls,' the EC said.

ECI Increases Remuneration For Booth Level Officers, Approves Rs 6,000 SIR Incentive

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday said that it will double the remuneration for Booth Level Officers (BLOs), enhance remuneration for BLO Supervisors and give honorarium to Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs). "Pure electoral rolls are the bedrock of democracy. The electoral roll machinery, consisting of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), BLO Supervisors and Booth Level Officers (BLOs), do a lot of hard work and play a pivotal role in preparation of impartial and transparent electoral rolls. The Commission has therefore decided to double the annual remuneration for BLOs and also enhanced the remuneration of BLO Supervisors involved in the preparation and revision of electoral rolls," it said in a press release. The apex poll body's press statement also mentioned that the last such revision was done in 2015 and the honorarium has been provided for EROs and AEROs for the first time. Remunerations for BLOs, incentives for BLOs for Revision of electoral rolls, and BLO Supervisors have existed since 2015, with remuneration amounts of Rs 6000, Rs 1000, and Rs 12000, respectively. The revised remuneration is Rs 12000 for BLOs, Rs 2000 for an Incentive to BLO for Revision of the electoral roll and Rs 18000 for BLO Supervisors. For AERO and ERO, remuneration is 25000 and 30000, respectively. Moreover, the press note further mentioned that the Commission had also approved a special incentive of Rs 6,000 for BLOs for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) starting from Bihar. "This decision reflects the Election Commission's commitment to adequately compensate election personnel who work tirelessly at the field level to maintain accurate electoral rolls, assist voters, and strengthen the electoral process," the ECI said.
