England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt has reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the ICC Women's ODI Batting Rankings, overtaking India's Smriti
Mandhana
following a strong performance in the recently concluded three-match ODI series between the two sides.
Although India secured the series 2-1, it was Sciver-Brunt's consistent showing with the bat that earned her a climb back to the top. The 32-year-old scored 160 runs across the series, including a fluent 98 in the final ODI at Chester-le-Street, and now tops the charts with 731 rating points. Mandhana, who had briefly held the No. 1 ranking, dropped to second with 728 points despite scoring 115 runs in the series.

While Mandhana's slip was a minor setback, India had reason to cheer as skipper Harmanpreet Kaur made a notable jump in the rankings.
The right-hander moved up ten spots to 11th place after contributing valuable runs in the middle order. Teammate Jemimah Rodrigues also gained ground, climbing from 15th to 13th.
Among the bowlers, India's Deepti Sharma retained her fourth position in the ODI bowling rankings. The list continues to be led by England's Sophie Ecclestone, followed by Australia's Ashleigh Gardner and Megan Schutt.
Elsewhere, Ireland's Orla Prendergast enjoyed a breakout performance in the ODI series against Zimbabwe, which earned her recognition across all departments. After scoring an unbeaten 67 in the second ODI, she jumped 12 places to joint 22nd in the batting rankings. She also climbed 10 spots to 33rd among bowlers and broke into the top 10 in the all-rounders' list for the first time, now sitting at No. 10.

Fans in the stands joined in too, many sporting the same headbands that Thorpe made iconic during his playing days. The gesture was part of a special day dedicated to Thorpe, who passed away on August 4, 2024. August 1 marks his birth anniversary, and the occasion is being used to raise awareness about mental health — a cause close to Thorpe and his family. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. He scored 6,744Test runs and was also an important figure in English domestic cricket with Surrey. After retirement, he served as a coach with England and other teams as well. IND vs ENG 5th Test: Will Chris Woakes bat like Rishabh Pant did in the Old Trafford?

Chris Woakes of England (Photo by) Chris Woakes is unlikely to take further part in the ongoing fifth Test against India at The Oval after sustaining a shoulder injury on Day 1. The England all-rounder landed awkwardly while diving to save a boundary late on Thursday and was seen clutching his left shoulder in pain. He walked off the field with his arm in a sling and did not return. On Friday morning, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that Woakes is expected to play no further part in the match, though he will continue to be monitored through the remainder of the Test. A final assessment will be made after the series ends. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! While the ECB statement did not fully rule out the possibility of Woakes batting, his current condition suggests it is highly unlikely unless the situation demands a one-handed or heavily restricted appearance, similar to Rishabh Pant 's brave innings on one foot in the fourth Test at Old Trafford. IND vs ENG: Jasprit Bumrah released from squad during final Test at The Oval

India bowler Jasprit Bumrah (Photo by) Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India's squad for the ongoing fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval, London, the BCCI confirmed on Friday. This was a pre-planned move as part of India's workload management policy. Head coach Gautam Gambhir had stated before the series began that Bumrah would play only three of the five Tests. The fast bowler featured in the first, third and fourth Tests, and sat out the second and now the final match. He ends his campaign with 14 wickets at an average of 26. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! India's updated squad includes: Shubman Gill (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja , Dhruv Jurel (wk), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav, Anshul Kamboj, Arshdeep Singh, and N Jagadeesan (wk). India vs England weather, rain forecast: Why bad news for India from The Oval On the field, India endured a testing first day in overcast and seaming conditions. They finished on 204 for 6 in 64 overs after rain curtailed two sessions. Karun Nair, brought back into the side after being dropped for the fourth Test, stood firm with an unbeaten 52. His knock came under immense pressure and on a pitch that offered significant help to England's pacers. Washington Sundar (19*) was alongside Nair at stumps, steadying the innings after India lost three wickets in the final session. Earlier in the day, Yashasvi Jaiswal (2) and KL Rahul (14) fell early, while Gill was run out for 21 after a mix-up. Still, the Indian captain made history by overtaking Sunil Gavaskar's record of 732 runs in a single Test series by an Indian captain. Gill now has 733 runs with one innings left to play. Sai Sudharsan, playing just his second Test, looked composed for his 38 but edged one that moved away from Josh Tongue. Ravindra Jadeja also fell to Tongue, nicking off for 9. Gus Atkinson, playing his first Test of the series, impressed with the ball and picked up two wickets. England, however, suffered a blow late in the day as Chris Woakes walked off the field clutching his shoulder after a fielding attempt, making his participation for the rest of the Test uncertain. With the series tied at 2-2, this final match remains finely balanced, and much will depend on how India's lower order bats on Day 2.
