Girl, 3, abused online after dog attack
A man whose three-year-old daughter was attacked by a dog has criticised the abuse she has since received online.
Rowen Skinley, from Rainham, said the attack by the cockapoo on his daughter, Bunnie, was "totally unprovoked" and that the bite marks indicate that her arm was "tucked in" at the time.
Kent Police said it was investigating a report that a child was bitten by a dog in Silverspot Close at about 15:30 BST on Tuesday.
But the girl, who needed reconstructive surgery to her arm, was later targeted by "vicious" abuse on social media, said her father.
"She is a bigger girl and [there has been] some not-so-nice comments," said Mr Skinley.
"It's horrible, she's a three-year-old girl."
Speaking about the attack, he said: "Her arm was bleeding so badly that I had to hold it together."
Bunnie was sent to St Thomas' Hospital in London for surgery, but the owner of the dog fled the scene and is yet to come forward.
There have been 1,195 dog attacks reported to Kent Police last year, up 33% since 2018.
Canine behaviourist Daniel Shaw said dogs of any size are a risk to humans, not just larger breeds.
"Smaller dogs can have similar issues in terms of temperament, not coping well in certain situations, so you may see similar injuries but because they're smaller generally the damage is less severe," said Mr Shaw.

They're the gangs that couldn't shoot straight. A bumbling baby-faced Bronx gang accidentally killed one of its own in a gunfight with a rival group — and its foes later fired 17 shots at one of them but missed, instead grazing a passer-by in the head, officials said Monday in announcing a takedown of some of the members. A member of the bungling gang that shot the innocent victim even admitted in a drill rap video just how badly the hit was botched — rapping, 'I don't know how we missed them,'' authorities said. Masked men in Border Patrol vests take California father after repeatedly hitting him
In graphic video that has since gone viral, some seven or more masked men wearing U.S. Border Patrol vests were seen violently detaining a father in Santa Ana, Calif., before forcing him into the back of an unmarked car on Saturday. The violent incident sparked protests in the following hours, and an online fundraiser was started through GoFundMe, where family members identified the victim as Tustin, Calif., resident Narciso Barranco, a father to three sons who are all U.S. Marines. One of those sons, 25-year-old Alejandro Barranco, told KTLA that his father was pepper-sprayed in addition to repeatedly being punched in the face during his detention. According to Alejandro, Narciso was picked up by alleged federal immigration officers while he was working as a landscaper at the IHOP on Edinger Avenue and Ritchey Street. The video shared by the Instagram account @SantaAnaProblems shows a group of men wearing hats and face coverings and police vests converge on Narciso, holding him down while one man repeatedly hits him on the head. Some men are standing guard around the scene before the group again seizes Narciso, with one man holding a baton at the back of Narciso's neck to push him into the backseat of a silver SUV. KTLA has reached out to city and state officials and is awaiting a response. A Santa Ana Police spokesperson said they are aware of the video circulating on social media, but had no further details. No local or federal officials have confirmed to KTLA whether the masked men were federal officers. 'He is a good, hard working man. He has raised his family here and has established himself here,' reads the GoFundMe page. 'Please help the Barranco family with whatever you can to ensure he is able to receive the proper legal counsel to represent him.' As of Saturday evening, Alejandro was working on getting in contact with his father.
