The Dallas Cowboys believe they have a star-quality player and future starter in Day 2 NFL Draft selection Shavon Revel Jr.

The scouting staff, coaching staff and medical staff at The Star knew full well that when the Cowboys selected East Carolina standout Revel Jr. - whose college career came to an early end after suffering a torn ACL - that rehab would be part of the process.
There are still some questions about a solid timetable as it regards readiness to start training camp in Oxnard later in July. … but there is also still hope that he would be healthy for the start of the regular season.
Suddenly, though, it is being suggested that Revel's health status could be in jeopardy, according to a new update from SI.com's Albert Breer.
According to Breer on the latest episode of MMQB, Revel suffered "a little bit of a setback with his knee."

The problem with the national report?
It's false.
'It's completely wrong.' a source close to the situation tells CowboysCountry.com.
Our source tells us that the 6-3, 195-pound Revel is doing all the things necessary to get ready as quickly and as smartly as possible.
And that he is doing so without any sort of 'setback.'
Another source wonders if Breer's reference is to the pre-draft injury itself … though that was hardly a 'little bit of a setback.' (Breer is now claiming that's exactly what he meant.)
If Revel can return to his pre-injury form as viewed by the Cowboys scouting department he could jump into a lead role alongside DaRon Bland.

Ultimately, that's been part of the plan here. And errant reports aside, the plan has not been altered.

Cowboys once again top NFL team valuations, with a record $12.8 billion

There are plenty of reasons to mock the Dallas Cowboys these days, but poverty definitely isn't one of them. In the latest round of Sportico's NFL team valuations, the Cowboys once again held onto their crown as the most valuable team in the most valuable league in the world with a record valuation of $12.8 billion, a 24% increase from last year. Team owner Jerry Jones, who revealed a lengthy cancer battle earlier Wednesday, purchased the team for $140 million in 1989, so the new valuation represents a 9043% increase from the original price. This comes a year after Dallas became the first team to crack the $10 billion club, where the Los Angeles Rams ($10.43 billion) and New York Giants ($10.25 billion) have since joined. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] As a whole, the NFL continued to see skyrocketing values with an average of $7.13 billion, up 20% from a year ago. Meanwhile, the average NBA team was valued at $4.6 billion, the average MLB team at $2.82 billion and the average NHL team at $1.79 billion. The league's least valuable team: the Cincinnati Bengals, at $5.5 billion. NFL's 5 most valuable teams, per Sportico 1. Dallas Cowboys, $12.8 billion2. Los Angeles Rams, $10.43 billion3. New York Giants, $10.25 billion4. New England Patriots, $8.76 billion5. San Francisco 49ers, $8.6 billion While the Cowboys are doing pretty well in the business department, the football department remains a different story, as ever. The team still hasn't reached an NFC championship game since its last Super Bowl title in 1995, by far longest drought in the NFC. The next most recent team is the Chicago Bears in 2010. The Cowboys made the playoffs in three straight seasons from 2021 to 2023, but stumbled to a 7-10 record last year, which led to the ouster of head coach Mike McCarty. The team's previous offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer was controversially promoted to replace him, and will be attempting to break through with a roster similar to last year's. Part of the reason the Cowboys are so valuable is they command attention from the football world at all times, for good or bad reasons. The past couple weeks perfectly exemplify that, from the release of the Netflix docuseries "America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys" to star pass-rusher Micah Parson's trade request. The latter has become the story of the preseason, with Jones regularly facing reporters with alternating optimism and pessimism. Jones has become an increasingly controversial figure among Cowboys fans as the team's Super Bowl titles recede further into the past and the fact he's now sitting on an 11-figure property isn't going to make those people any happier. A Super Bowl is really the only way to change that, and it can definitely be said the Cowboys won't lack for resources there.

Jerry Jones expects Micah Parsons to play in opener while he's under contract

OXNARD, Calif. — Micah Parsons has been with the Dallas Cowboys throughout their 25 days of training camp in California. He has talked to reporters once, after the first practice. Other than posting a trade request on social media, Parsons has remained quiet. That included Wednesday as the Cowboys held their second from last practice in California. Parsons was approached by reporters as he was leaving the field. Advertisement 'My mouth's closed,' was all that he said. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones did stop to chat with reporters a few minutes later. There's nothing new to report regarding any contract talks with Parsons or his agent, David Mulugheta. Will talks pick up when the team returns to Dallas? 'I don't know that necessarily talks will,' Jones said, 'but we got a game coming and he's under contract.' The Cowboys open the season in 22 days with a Thursday night game in Philadelphia. Because Parsons is in the fifth year of his rookie contract, Jones expects the star pass rusher to be on the field. 'You don't have deadlines when you're playing under a contract,' Jones said. Jerry Jones on if contract talks will pick up with Micah Parsons when the Cowboys get back to Texas — Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 13, 2025 Parsons has attended almost all of the training camp practices, missing two of the 15 while getting treatment on his back. When he has been in attendance, he has stood off to the side for most. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer has said that Parsons has been 'really good' in the team meetings and 'very engaged' during their work away from the field. When asked what's preventing Jones from having contract talks with Parsons and his agent, the owner and general manager responded, 'nothing.' So why aren't they talking? 'We might or might not talk,' he said. 'The rest of that gets into what we do every day.' Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons — Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 13, 2025 Four outstanding seasons have put Parsons in the conversation to become the NFL's highest-paid non-quarterback. Jones recognizes Parsons' rare talent and importance to the team. That's why he made a contract extension offer back in March that Jones says both sides agreed to and shook on. But Parsons wanted Jones to speak with Mulugheta to get it finalized. That has not happened, so ink has never hit paper. Advertisement With every day that passes, it seems more and more possible that Parsons could be playing out the final year of his rookie deal. The Cowboys could then try to re-sign him in the offseason or use the franchise tag. 'All you got to go on are contracts,' Jones said. 'We are negotiating for a contract. When you do a contract, you would hope that after a negotiation that that's what both the team and player look to to see what our obligations are. I have a lot of respect for a contract.'
