CBL Governor Issa vows to end Libya's liquidity crisis by 1 October

Central Bank of Libya Governor Naji Issa said he will end Libya' liquidity crisis by 1 October, the eastern based state Libyan news agency LANA reported yesterday.
‎Issa made the pledge during his meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Ageela Saleh, in Benghazi yesterday. During the meeting they discussed economic reforms and the development of monetary policy. The meeting was in the presence of Deputy CBL Governor Maree Al-Barassi and the First and Second HoR Deputy Speakers.
‎During the meeting, Governor Issa stressed with regards ending the cash crisis that he is working effectively and systematically to activate and develop electronic payment operations. ‎
‎The CBL also presented during the meeting proposals to the HoR aimed at resolving some of the bottlenecks faced by the Central Bank, stressing the HoR's support for this approach to make an effective contribution to overcoming all difficulties and obstacles. ‎
‎At the end of the meeting, the HoR Speaker and his two Deputies stressed the need to unify institutions in all parts of Libya, while stressing the need to continue unified action in supporting reconstruction and the process of construction in all parts of Libya.

Libyan Railroads to issue consultancy tender for Tripoli rail project

‎The Tripoli based Libyan government and its Transport Ministry reported yesterday that Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, the Minister of Transport and Financial Advisor to the Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, discussed with the Chairman of Libyan Railroads, the mechanisms for initiating the ‎‎implementation of a railway project in Tripoli.‎ ‎To this end, Libyan Railroads was tasked with issuing a tender to a specialized consulting office to prepare the necessary technical studies and designs. The Transport Ministry said this initiative comes as part of the government's plan to develop the public transport sector infrastructure, and find solutions to traffic congestion, in a way that contributes to improving the quality of life and the services provided to citizens.‎

The Tripoli based Libyan government reported today that after a closure of more than 13 years, the Syrian embassy in Tripoli reopened today. The reopening coincided with the visit of a delegation from the Syrian Foreign Ministry, headed by the Deputy Director of the Arab Affairs Department at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mohammad Jaffal, and his accompanying delegation. It will be recalled that last Monday (18 August), the Ministry of Transport's Airports Authority reported that Tripoli's Mitiga airport received the first Syrian Airlines flight. It stated that this would be the first Syrian Airlines flight to land in Libya since the outbreak of the February 2011 Revolution.
