KOTA KINABALU (April 25): Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor has commended the commitment of the Kibing Group in providing employment opportunities for an additional 700 Sabahans through its latest recruitment programme set to begin in May.
He said the new recruitment drive would add to the 1,625 Sabahans already employed in various management, engineering, technical and operational roles within the Kibing Group.
'This now constitutes more than 83 per cent of the total workforce at Kibing Group. This positive development not only empowers our local communities but also fosters shared prosperity. Well done and thank you,' he said during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration with Kibing employees at their factory in the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) on Friday.
Earlier, the Hajiji was informed that Kibing Group will launch a new recruitment campaign in collaboration with the SMJ Secretariat from May 13 to 23 The campaign will be held at the district offices of Ranau, Tuaran, Beaufort, Papar, Kota Kinabalu and Penampang.
'I also want to stress the importance of prioritising the employment of Sabahans and urge all industry players not only to hire locals but also to invest in their training and development.
'This collective effort is crucial to ensuring our local workforce is equipped with the skills and knowledge required to meet industry demands,' he said.
Hajiji said it was a significant milestone when the Kibing Group began construction of a RM2.5 billion high-tech solar glass manufacturing plant in Sabah in 2022.
'Today, the presence of Kibing Group is not only a transformative effort for Sabah but also a testament to the success of the State Government in continuing to implement high-impact projects for the state's development and economic growth,' he said.
Hajiji also noted that the Kibing Group made significant progress when, in November last year, it invested in another project, a new RM7.2 billion solar glass manufacturing facility in Kimanis.
'To date, the positive impact of Kibing's presence in Sabah is evident and encouraging, with over RM50 million worth of contracts awarded to local companies since the beginning of construction.
'We have high hopes that the Kibing Group will continue to grow and play a key role in contributing to Sabah's long-term prosperity,' he said.
During a briefing, Hajiji was also informed that Kibing's first production line is now fully operational, exporting 1,500 containers worth USD14 million per month.
The second production line is expected to reach full capacity in June this year, while the third line is scheduled to become fully operational later in the year.
Kibing Group's export destinations include Southeast Asia, South Asia, North America, Africa and Europe.

Bung Moktar calls for more inclusive implementation of People's Income Initiative
Bung during his recent visit to Tawau Market. KOTA KINABALU (June 6): Kinabatangan Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has raised concerns over the implementation of the People's Income Initiative (IPR), saying it remains inadequate in addressing the pressing needs of rural communities in Sabah. He pointed out that although the IPR is a key policy under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) and was well-intended, its on-ground execution in the state's interior has yet to reach the level needed to make meaningful impact. 'Sabah's hardcore poverty rate stands at 1.2 per cent, six times higher than the national average of 0.2 per cent. This is not just a statistic, but a stark indicator of the developmental gap that persists,' he said in a statement today, after visiting Tawau Market recently. Bung stressed that many Sabahans, particularly single mothers, the elderly and youth in rural areas, continue to live in hardship due to limited access to opportunities and targeted assistance. He urged the Ministry of Economy to restructure the delivery of the IPR so that it becomes more inclusive and better aligned with the unique realities faced by Sabah's rural population. He also proposed that in-person outreach initiatives be prioritised, involving physical engagements at community halls, schools, places of worship and other grassroots centres, in close collaboration with village heads, the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) and local NGOs. 'The government must go to the people, not the other way round,' he said. Bung added that federal policies like the IPR must be tailored to reflect the actual context of communities on the ground, taking into account geographical challenges, cultural differences and economic limitations specific to Sabah. 'It is time the government stops viewing Sabah merely as the poorest state, and instead begins recognising it as a strategic development partner capable of making a significant contribution to the nation's future,' he said. 'I believe that with a strengthened and well-targeted implementation of the IPR, Sabah can break free from the cycle of poverty and move towards a more prosperous future,' he added.

Active outreach needed for People's Income Initiative to have real impact in Sabah, says Bung
KOTA KINABALU: The People's Income Initiative (IPR) must be brought directly to rural communities instead of expecting the poor to find their way to government aid, says Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin. The Kinabatangan MP stressed that effective outreach, not passive delivery, must drive the implementation of the programme in Sabah's interior. ALSO READ: People's Income Initiative to continue under 13MP, says Rafizi He added that the IPR is a commendable federal policy launched in 2023 and scheduled to continue under the 13th Malaysia Plan, but its impact in Sabah has been limited because of a lack of on-the-ground engagement. 'The government must go to the people, not the other way around. 'Outreach programmes should be the backbone of IPR in Sabah. "This includes face-to-face engagement in community halls, schools, houses of worship and local centres, involving village heads, village development and security committee (JKKK), non-governmental organisations and other grassroots networks,' the Sabah Barisan Nasional chief said in a statement on Friday (June 6). ALSO READ: IPR participants expected to get out of poverty in two years, says Rafizi Bung Moktar pointed out that Sabah's hardcore poverty rate currently stands at 1.2%, six times higher than the national average of 0.2%. This reflects the daily struggles, especially those of single mothers, the elderly and youth in rural Sabah, who are eager to improve their lives but trapped by limited access and opportunity. 'People here are not lazy. They are simply cut off from programmes that could help them. It is not enough to just roll out a policy; we must make sure it reaches the right hands,' he added. Bung Moktar urged the Economy Ministry to restructure the IPR delivery mechanism by taking into account Sabah's unique geographical, cultural and socioeconomic landscape. ALSO READ: Govt to meet local authorities to speed up IPR He also called on the Federal Government to see Sabah not as a lagging region but as a strategic development partner that can significantly contribute to national progress if treated equitably. 'The success of IPR in Sabah would not come from centralised announcements. It will come from real presence, real conversations, and real inclusion,' he said. He believes that with a people-first approach, IPR can help lift many Sabahans out of the cycle of poverty towards a just and sustainable future.

Klias hardcore poverty initiative bears fruit
Published on: Friday, June 06, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jun 06, 2025 By: Iskandar Dzulkifli Text Size: BEAUFORT: The government's efforts to eradicate hardcore poverty in Sabah have borne fruit, with the Klias constituency achieving zero hardcore poverty status. Klias Assemblyman Datuk Isnin Aliasnih said this success was the result of the continuous efforts of the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as part of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) agenda. Advertisement Isnin said E-Kasih data showed there were 168 hardcore poor in Klias in 2023, which decreased to 11 by the end of 2024 and finally reached zero this year. 'This year, it is zero, meaning there are no more hardcore poor in Klias. This shows that the government's various initiatives to address this issue have been effective. 'The government provided extensive assistance to ensure these individuals rose above the poverty line, as we understood their struggles, some earning less than RM250 a month and some even without homes,' 'We provided them with SMJ homes and enrolled them in the Mini Estet Sejahtera (Mesej) programme to boost their economic standing. They have now successfully escaped poverty.' He said this to reporters after officiating the Klias Gagasan Rakyat Annual Delegates Meeting at Dewan Pa' Musa here. Isnin, who is also Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, said five dilapidated schools in the area will be upgraded with an allocation of RM118 million. The schools are SK Mempagar, SK Takuli, SK Rancangan Klias, SK Pintas and SK Kubu. Additionally, a RM35 million allocation has been approved for the construction of the Beaufort District Education Office. 'My voice was heard during the Gagasan Rakyat Annual Assembly debate last year on education issues, leading to this substantial allocation for Klias. 'Not just that, Beaufort is also set to become one of Sabah's industrial hubs with a 5,000-acre area to be developed as an industrial centre. 'Once this project begins, it will impact local development and the economy, especially in Klias. The community must seize this opportunity,' he said. When asked about preparations for the 17th State Election, Isnin, who is also a Gagasan Rakyat Supreme Council Member said the party machinery is fully prepared to defend the Klias seat at any time. 'All party wings, including grassroots machinery, have been instructed to be ready. 'Support from young voters (aged 18 to 30) for the government is very positive, thanks to various direct initiatives such as education aid, SMJ housing assistance and financial aid all of which meet the people's needs at all levels,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
