Klias Assemblyman Datuk Isnin Aliasnih said this success was the result of the continuous efforts of the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as part of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) agenda.
Advertisement Isnin said E-Kasih data showed there were 168 hardcore poor in Klias in 2023, which decreased to 11 by the end of 2024 and finally reached zero this year. 'This year, it is zero, meaning there are no more hardcore poor in Klias. This shows that the government's various initiatives to address this issue have been effective. 'The government provided extensive assistance to ensure these individuals rose above the poverty line, as we understood their struggles, some earning less than RM250 a month and some even without homes,' 'We provided them with SMJ homes and enrolled them in the Mini Estet Sejahtera (Mesej) programme to boost their economic standing. They have now successfully escaped poverty.' He said this to reporters after officiating the Klias Gagasan Rakyat Annual Delegates Meeting at Dewan Pa' Musa here. Isnin, who is also Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, said five dilapidated schools in the area will be upgraded with an allocation of RM118 million. The schools are SK Mempagar, SK Takuli, SK Rancangan Klias, SK Pintas and SK Kubu. Additionally, a RM35 million allocation has been approved for the construction of the Beaufort District Education Office. 'My voice was heard during the Gagasan Rakyat Annual Assembly debate last year on education issues, leading to this substantial allocation for Klias. 'Not just that, Beaufort is also set to become one of Sabah's industrial hubs with a 5,000-acre area to be developed as an industrial centre. 'Once this project begins, it will impact local development and the economy, especially in Klias. The community must seize this opportunity,' he said. When asked about preparations for the 17th State Election, Isnin, who is also a Gagasan Rakyat Supreme Council Member said the party machinery is fully prepared to defend the Klias seat at any time. 'All party wings, including grassroots machinery, have been instructed to be ready. 'Support from young voters (aged 18 to 30) for the government is very positive, thanks to various direct initiatives such as education aid, SMJ housing assistance and financial aid all of which meet the people's needs at all levels,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? BN to focus on rural seats, PH on urban areas in Sabah polls

Published on: Sunday, August 17, 2025 Published on: Sun, Aug 17, 2025 Text Size: PONTIAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) is expected to concentrate on rural seats while Pakatan Harapan (PH) takes on urban constituencies in Sabah under a seat-sharing deal concluded for the upcoming state election, the New Straits Times reported on Sunday. Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan ( pic ) said the arrangement highlighted the strength of the BN-PH alliance and reflected a clear strategy ahead of the polls. He said the number of seats allocated to BN would be announced by party leaders, but confirmed that PH would contest in urban areas through either DAP or PKR while BN would focus on rural constituencies. The Pontian MP, who also heads Umno's central war room secretariat, added that preparations this time were more structured compared with the 2020 Sabah polls. Ahmad said he had already visited 20 party divisions in Sabah, with five more pending inspection as part of the early groundwork. On Saturday, BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed that the deal with PH was finalised without overlaps and stressed that no negotiations were held with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) out of respect for PH. The 16th Sabah assembly will dissolve automatically on Nov 11 unless dissolved earlier, paving the way for the state's 17th election, with Ahmad expressing confidence that the alliance's preparations and combined leadership would yield better results. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Hajiji confirms Shahelmy to contest under GRS in state polls

Published on: Sunday, August 17, 2025 Published on: Sun, Aug 17, 2025 By: Iskandar Dzulkifli Text Size: Hajiji confirms that Shahelmey (inset) will contest under GRS in the state polls. PUTATAN: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has confirmed that Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Shahelmy Yahya will contest under the coalition's banner in the upcoming 17th State Election. Hajiji, who is also the Chief Minister, expressed confidence that Shahelmy would retain the Tanjung Keramat seat while contributing another victory to GRS as the Member of Parliament for Putatan. Speaking after officiating the Young People Programme at Dewan Sri Putatan on Sunday, Hajiji said Shahelmy's dual roles as state assemblyman and MP placed him in a strong position to defend his constituency. Shahelmy, who is also the State Works Minister, won the Tanjung Keramat seat under Umno/Barisan Nasional during the last state polls with a majority of 4,594 votes against four challengers. However, Sabah Umno had earlier announced that Shahelmy would not be renominated following his decision not to support the 'Langkah Kinabalu' move, which aimed to unseat Hajiji's administration. The initiative failed when Hajiji secured the backing of Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) alongside several Umno representatives, including Shahelmy, ensuring political stability for the state. Looking ahead, Hajiji, who is also president of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), voiced optimism that GRS would secure not only Tanjung Keramat but also the Petagas and Tanjung Aru seats, citing the government's delivery of education, welfare, social and economic initiatives under the Sabah Maju Jaya plan. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
