Shanaya Kapoor secured her spot through a proper audition process and then engaged herself in months of intense training.
Shanaya Kapoor, daughter of actor Sanjay Kapoor, is all set to mark her Bollywood debut soon with the upcoming romantic drama, Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan. Co-starring Vikrant Massey, the film is slated to hit the big screens in July this year. Recently, during an interview, Santosh Singh, the director, revealed that Shanaya Kapoor was not the first choice for the role, instead, the makers initially decided to cast Tara Sutaria and Pratibha Ranta.
'The film had its journey of finding the female lead. We initially considered Tara Sutaria and Pratibha Ranta for this role, but their schedules did not work out. Later on, we tested Shanaya and she passed with flying colours," he said, as quoted by Bollywood Hungama.
Shanaya secured her spot through a proper audition process and then engaged herself in months of intense training. 'We did four months of workshops with her; she also worked with an acting coach. By the time we started shooting, she knew the script by heart," he shared.
Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan is based on Ruskin Bond's short story The Eyes Have It and is touted to be a musical drama. According to reports, Shanaya will portray a theatre artist, and Vikrant will play a blind musician in the film. The plot is expected to explore the intricacies of human connection, such as compassion, resilience, independence, desire and self-belief.
Recently, the makers unveiled the motion poster of the film on Instagram and wrote, 'This monsoon, don't just fall, but feel the love. #AankhonkiGustaakhiyan. In cinemas near you on 11th July 2025."
Scheduled to release on July 11 this year, the film will be facing a big Bollywood clash with Rajkummar Rao's upcoming gangster drama film, Maalik.
Shanaya will also star in Bejoy Nambiar's upcoming survival thriller Tu Yaa Main, opposite Adarsh Gourav. Backed by Anand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma, and penned by Abhishek Bandekar, the film is set to release in theatres on Valentine's Day 2026.
She will also reportedly be seen in a double role in Karan Johar's Student of the Year 3 web series. As per a previous MidDay report, the show will be helmed by debutant Reema Maya and will consist of six episodes.
