
Housewife pleads not guilty to offensive posts against Malaysia king
Suhaila Abd Halim, 39, allegedly made the comments under the profile name Suhaila Halim at Sungai Buloh Hospital in Petaling district at 8.30 am on January 5, 2025. The mother of six is accused of violating Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries penalties of up to RM50,000 in fines, one year in jail, or both, with an additional RM1,000 fine per day if the offence continues post-conviction.
Judge Norazlin Othman granted bail at RM10,000 with one surety and ordered Suhaila to report monthly to a nearby police station. She was also instructed not to interfere with prosecution witnesses. The case has been set for mention on September 17 for document submission and lawyer appointment.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Fadhli Ab Wahab and MCMC Prosecuting Officer Mohamad Azmir Mohd Razali represented the prosecution. - Bernama

Driver who struck car with iron rod identified
GEORGE TOWN: Police have identified the driver involved in a viral incident where a car was struck with an iron rod along Jalan Lebuh Pantai. Northeast district deputy police chief Superintendent Lee Swee Sake said a 25-year-old man lodged a report about the incident. He said the victim claimed the incident occurred at 4pm yesterday while he was driving along the road. "We confirm that we received the report from the victim on the same day. "The victim's car was hit by a Perodua Myvi driven by the suspect, a local man. "The suspect then got out of the car, picked up an iron rod, and struck the rear door of the victim's vehicle," he said in a statement today. Lee said the damage caused by the suspect resulted in an estimated loss of RM3,000 for the victim. "The suspect has been identified and police are tracking him down to assist in the investigation. "The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief," he said.

Teacher dies on way home to Temerloh from Jerantut school after her Myvi crashes into lorry, injuring three
KUANTAN, July 12 — A teacher was killed in a collision with a lorry along Jalan Besar Jengka 20, Maran, earlier today. Maran police chief Supt Wong Kim Wai said the victim, Nurfarah Izyan Ismail, 28, who taught at Sekolah Menengah Agama Al-Basriah in Jerantut, died at the scene of the 9.30 am crash. Preliminary investigations revealed that Nurfarah Izyan was driving a Perodua Myvi home to Sungai Gau, Temerloh, from the school when the accident occurred. 'It is believed that she lost control of her vehicle and veered into the opposite lane before colliding with a lorry carrying four individuals,' he said in a statement today. He said the 51-year-old driver of the Isuzu lorry sustained a fractured thigh, while two assistants, aged 25 and 43, suffered minor injuries. Another assistant, 53, was unhurt. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama

Education Ministry leaving probe into liquor acution at school to authorities, says Fadhlina
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Education Ministry is leaving it to the authorities to investigate the recent incident involving a liquor auction within a school compound that went viral. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry will not compromise on any form of misconduct or violation of regulations involving educational institutions. "We have handed the matter over to the relevant authorities for investigation. We will not tolerate any misconduct or breaches of the rules. Action will be taken," she told reporters after officiating at the closing ceremony of the Madani Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 in Terengganu Saturday (July 12). She said investigations are ongoing, including into reports of a scuffle during the auction, and the ministry will continue to monitor the case to ensure regulations are upheld and appropriate action is taken.
