BJP and JD-(U) slam Lalu Prasad for allegedly insulting Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal-(United) leaders on Saturday slammed the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad for allegedly insulting Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar by placing a portrait of the Dalit icon at his feet.
The BJP media cell circulated the video of Mr. Prasad, in which the ailing leader can be seen seated on a couch with his feet placed on a sofa nearby. A supporter enters the room carrying the portrait and places it close to Mr. Prasad's feet before greeting him on his 78th birthday on June 11, 2025.
'It is very unfortunate that such a shameful act took place in democracy. The act proves that he considers himself a king and does not have any respect for anyone,' said BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary while addressing the presspersons at his official residence in Patna.
While showing the video on a tab, Mr. Choudhary further said, 'Not giving respect to anyone and insulting everyone is in the DNA of Lalu Prasad. If there is anyone who has always insulted backward, extremely backward and Adivasi communities, it is the former Chief Minister Of Bihar, Lalu Prasad. His act also proves that he hates dalits.'
He pointed out that Mr. Prasad does not evenrespect the party workers and leaders.
BJP leader and another Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha lashed out at Mr. Prasad terming him a social criminal. Bihar JD-(U) State president Umesh Singh Kushwaha also issued a statement saying that the insult of Dr. Ambedkar's picture by Mr. Prasad is a direct attack on the self-respect of the Bahujan Samaj and exposes the real mentality of RJD and the truth of its pseudo social justice.
'Lalu Prasad has once again proved that he is a symbol of political feudalism. For him, socialism is just an election slogan, which he has been using just to confuse the common people and enjoy the pleasures of power. It is meaningless to expect respect for Baba Saheb's ideas from a party where democracy and ideology are a mere show,' Mr. Kushwaha said.
The JD-(U) State president asserted that people of Bihar will neither accept the arrogance of the Lalu family, nor will they ever forgive the insult of a great man like Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.
He alleged that hundreds of Dalits became victims of caste massacre during Lalu-Rabri rule.
'Dalit, backward and deprived society were most affected by the anarchy during the 15 years of Jungle Raj. These incidents were carried out by power-protected criminals under the nose of the Lalu family, which clearly shows that their mentality has been to suppress the deprived society from the very beginning,' Mr. Kushwaha said.

AAP leaders pursuing politics of 'abusing, accusing': NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Chahal

BJP leader and New Delhi Municipal Council Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders for pursuing 'abusing and accusing' tactics for political mileage. Reacting to the AAP leader's allegations against the BJP government over power cuts, increase in electricity tariff, waterlogging, water shortage, school fee hike and slum demolition, Chahal told IANS, 'The AAP government itself was involved in corruption and after being voted out, their leaders are busy spreading lies.' He said the AAP government and its ministers lacked the intention to take decisions when they were in power, but they are targeting the BJP government, which is focused on development 'The BJP has always prioritised development, whether in Opposition or in power,' he said, reiterating the resolve to build a 'Viksit Delhi' and realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Viksit Bharat'. The NDMC Vice Chairman was speaking after conducting an inspection with Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal. Chahal said the inspection was related to areas near Sarojini Nagar Market, complaints of residents of newly-built government flats and waterlogging problems in central Delhi. He said a coordination committee was formed, and it would review the issues next week. Talking about the discussions on tackling waterlogging problems, Chahal said that during their inspection close to Dayal Singh College in Lodhi Colony, a suggestion was made by the Union Minister to find a permanent solution to the current ad hoc system of pumping out water from NDMC drain into a bigger MCD drain near Commonwealth Games village. 'During the Congress government's tenure, a channel meant to carry rainwater from the NDMC drain was built at a higher level by the MCD, requiring regular pumping to prevent waterlogging in central Delhi. The Union Minister suggested a permanent solution involving the Ministry should be found to do away with the pumping drill,' he said. Chahal said Minister Manohar Lal also appreciated the pole-mounted mist dispensers installed by NDMC in the Jor Bagh area and hinted that the successful model might be replicated in other parts of the country to fight air pollution.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav has landed in the eye of a political storm after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) posted a video purportedly showing a portrait of Dr B R Ambedkar placed at his feet during his 78th birthday celebrations. In the latest developments, the State Scheduled Caste Commission on Sunday issued a notice to Lalu Yadav, seeking a written explanation within 15 days. "The insult to Scheduled Castes and Dalits represents the real identity of the RJD and its allies, Congress and the INDI Alliance. The way BR Ambedkar's picture was placed under the feet of Lalu Prasad Yadav and the indecency shown with the image of Ambedkar, this is the original character of RJD,' Poonawalla said in an interview with news agency ANI. He further alleged that for the RJD, 'family and power' matter more than the Constitution or social Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary echoed similar sentiments and condemned the act as an 'unpardonable insult' and called it a 'dark chapter in Bihar's political history.' He demanded a public apology from Lalu Bihar Chief Minister and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi too slammed the RJD chief, stating, 'Placing Dr Ambedkar's portrait at one's feet is not just an insult to our icon, but to all Dalits. Even Lalu's own community will not tolerate this.'The JD(U), RJD's former ally, also denounced the incident. Party general secretary Shyam Rajak, a former RJD leader himself, called the act "petty and unforgivable.' At a press conference in Muzaffarpur, he challenged Rahul Gandhi to condemn Lalu Yadav. 'The Congress has become a sidekick of RJD in Bihar. If Rahul Gandhi wants to prove otherwise, let him issue one statement criticizing Lalu Prasad,' Kishor YADAV DEFENDS FATHERMeanwhile, RJD leader and former Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav came to his father's defense, accusing the BJP of spreading lies and politicising the (BJP) people have nothing to do with Baba Saheb, the Constitution, and Reservation. Lalu Yadav has installed many statues of Baba Saheb Ambedkar in Bihar. We are the people who believe in Ambedkar's ideology. The BJP only spread lies," Tejashwi said. He added that his father, despite being 78 and ailing, continues to work tirelessly and meet people. 'He works 10 hours a day. Yet they target him with such baseless allegations.'Must Watch IN THIS STORY#Bihar

‘Dismissal based on religion by Shani Shingnapur Temple Trust is illegal,' says SP MLA Rais Shaikh

Samajwadi Party MLA Rais Shaikh Sunday termed the recent termination of 114 minority employees by the Shani Shingnapur Temple Trust in Maharashtra as an 'illegal and arbitrary act'. Speaking on the issue, Shaikh said, 'Targeting Muslims and Dalits has always been part of the BJP government's long-standing strategy. Their core agenda is to polarise votes along religious lines and seize power. This discrimination is being practiced in all walks of life, and the dismissal of 114 Muslim employees by the Shani Shingnapur Trust is a clear example of the BJP-RSS mindset in action.' The 114 minority employees terminated by the Trust were employed in departments such as waste management, agriculture, and administration. MLA Shaikh further pointed out that the NCP has the highest number of Muslim MLAs in the Maharashtra Assembly and currently holds the Minority Affairs department. 'If the NCP continues to toe the BJP line, no Muslim voter will ever support them again,' warned Shaikh. He added that he plans to meet Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar soon and file a complaint against the NCP MLA who allegedly pressured the Trust to act. The renowned Shani Shingnapur Temple Trust in the Ahmednagar district has claimed that the terminated employees had been absent from duty for several months. Notably, earlier objections had been raised by right-wing groups over minority workers being involved in the painting and maintenance of the temple premises. Tushar Bhosale of the Hindu Spiritual Front and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) MLA Sangram Jagtap had also threatened to launch an agitation against the Trust if the workers were not retrenched.
