World Bank discusses Priorities for Iraq's Infrastructure Projects

Iraq's Ministry of Planning held a technical meeting in Baghdad on Tuesday with a delegation from the World Bank, led by Deputy Minister for Technical Affairs, Dr. Maher Hammad Johan, to discuss mechanisms for joint cooperation on funding proposals to support vital development projects in Iraq.
The discussions focused on four sectoral priorities identified by relevant ministries: water
air pollution (environment)
river sanitation
agriculture.
These areas were emphasised for their significant impact on sustainable development and quality of life.
Dr. Johan stressed that this initiative is part of Iraq's broader efforts to strengthen economic recovery and sustainable development. He noted that a follow-up technical meeting will be held to study the World Bank's proposals in detail, ensuring alignment with government priorities and avoiding overlap with existing projects.
He also underlined the importance of effectively utilising external funding to complete critical infrastructure initiatives that have already made substantial progress. Enhanced collaboration with the World Bank is expected to support the creation of effective action plans that will advance Iraq's development goals.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Saher Abdul-Kadhim, Director General of the International Cooperation Department, Mr. Tahseen Mahmoud Muthanna, Director General of Government Investment, and several department heads from the ministry.

Iraqi PM receives Lebanese president in Baghdad

The Iraqi prime minister also noted Iraq's continuing support to help Lebanon overcome current obstacles. Aoun expressed appreciation for Iraq's attitudes toward Lebanon, particularly in light of the terrible conditions that the Lebanese people face. The Lebanese president lauded Iraq's role in strengthening Lebanon's ability to face diverse difficulties, its support for Lebanon's stability, and its efforts to broaden cooperation to benefit the people of both countries.

Iraq and OPEC+ members plan to raise oil output in July
Baghdad ( – Eight OPEC+ member countries, including Iraq, met virtually on Saturday to review global market dynamics and outlook. The eight OPEC+ countries, which previously announced further voluntary adjustments in April and November 2023, are Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, the UAE, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman, according to OPEC+. The eight member countries plan to implement an output modification of 411,000 barrels per day in July 2025, in accordance with the decision made in December 2024. This decision allows for a gradual and flexible return to the previously agreed voluntary adjustments of 2.2 million barrels per day, starting in April 2025. The planned gradual increases may be postponed or reversed if market conditions fluctuate. This flexibility will enable the organization to maintain its commitment to oil market stability. The eight OPEC+ countries also stated that this strategy will allow member countries to hasten their compensation. The eight countries reaffirmed their commitment to achieving full compliance with the Declaration of Cooperation, including the extra optional output adjustments that were agreed to be reviewed by the Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee (JMMC) at its 53rd meeting in April 2024. OPEC+ members reiterated their plan to completely compensate for any overproduction volume since January 2024. They will meet monthly to discuss market circumstances, compliance, and compensation, with their next meeting to be held on July 6, 2025, to decide on August production levels.

Gold declines in Baghdad, climbs in Erbil
Shafaq News/ On Sunday, gold prices fell in Baghdad while inching up in Erbil. According to a Shafaq News survey, prices in Baghdad's wholesale markets on Al-Nahr Street registered a selling price for a 21-carat per mithqal (equivalent to 4.25 grams) of Gulf, Turkish, and European gold of 653,000 IQD, and a buying price of 649,000 IQD—down from 658,000 IQD recorded Saturday. Iraqi 21-carat gold was selling for 623,000 IQD per mithqal and buying for 619,000 IQD. In local jewelry shops, the price of a 21-carat mithqal of Gulf gold ranged between 655,000 and 666,000 IQD, while the price of Iraqi gold ranged from 625,000 to 635,000 IQD.
