New firm to manage parking collection in 4 S'gor local council areas
SHAH ALAM : A newly appointed concession company, Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd, will take over parking fee collection and enforcement in four Selangor local councils from Aug 1.
Local government and tourism committee chairman Ng Suee Lim said the company was appointed by Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI Selangor) for the first phase involving the local councils in Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam and Selayang.
He said this was part of the state government's efforts to boost parking revenue, which currently amounts to only about 30% collection from 1,000 designated bays.
'The concessionaire will handle both fee collection and enforcement, under close supervision from the councils and the state government.
'We target a collection rate of over 60% and hope to reduce double parking in busy areas,' he told reporters on the sidelines of the Selangor state assembly sitting here today.
Ng said the revenue would be split equally, with the concessionaire receiving 50%, while the remaining 50% would go to the state, of which 40% would go to the councils and 10% to MBI Selangor.
He denied claims of a closed tender process, saying 26 companies responded to a request for proposal before three were shortlisted.
'The final company was selected based on strict performance conditions. If targets are not met, the 10-year contract can be terminated any time,' he said.
Ng said the new system would not lead to higher parking rates, which would remain between 40 and 60 sen per hour.

Anwar announces one-off RM100 cash aid for all Malaysians
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the one-off aid can be used from Aug 31 to Dec 31 for essential goods at more than 4,100 stores. PETALING JAYA : Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today announced one-off cash aid of RM100 for all Malaysians aged 18 and above, under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid initiative. The one-off payment, which will be channelled through MyKads, is in conjunction with the National Day celebration, he said. In a special televised announcement, Anwar said the aid could be used between Aug 31 and Dec 31, to purchase basic necessities from over 4,100 outlets including hypermarkets such as Mydin, Lotus, Econsave, and 99 Speedmart. 'This aid is given to every individual and not per household. 'This means that a family comprising a husband, wife and two children who are 18 and above will receive a total of RM400. 'This is the first time in history that cash aid is being channelled to all adult Malaysians,' he said. Anwar said the government had set aside RM2 billion for this initiative, which is expected to benefit some 22 million citizens. He said the one-off payment meant that the funds for SARA and Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah, another cash aid initiative, had increased to RM15 billion from the initial allocation of RM13 billion. He also said that the one-off payment initiative was one of several programmes aimed at reducing the cost of living in view of the increasing food prices, which remain above the average inflation rate of 1.1%. Rahmah Sales allocation doubled Anwar also announced that the allocation for the 2025 Rahmah Sales programme would be doubled from RM300 million to RM600 million. He said the additional funds were meant to increase the frequency and number of sales locations nationwide, covering all 600 state constituencies. 'It will also allow for a wider variety of essential goods to offer more choices for the public,' he said. Sept 15 an additional public holiday The prime minister also said that Sept 15 would be declared an additional public holiday in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration this year. He said the public holiday was a gesture of appreciation for the unity and uniqueness of Malaysia's formation. 'It is also intended to encourage people to strengthen family ties in their hometowns or enjoy domestic travel,' he said.

RON95 at RM1.99 per litre under targeted subsidies, says PM
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the lower RON95 price of RM1.99 per litre will benefit around 18 million car and motorcycle users. PETALING JAYA : Malaysians will enjoy a lower RON95 price of RM1.99 per litre once the targeted subsidies come into effect, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. In an announcement live-streamed on Facebook today, he said this would benefit around 18 million car and motorcycle users, including 'youths as young as 16 and gig workers'. He apologised for the delay in rolling out the targeted subsidies, saying this was due to the nation's high debts and the weakening economy. 'Before the end of September, I will ensure the implementation of the rate's reduction to RM1.99 per litre. 'This is quite a sharp drop, and involves increased cost to the government. However, this approach is in line with the government's efforts to optimise national resources for public benefit and reduce subsidy wastage,' he said. Anwar said the new rate of RM1.99 was only for Malaysians with MyKads, and that foreigners would have to pay the full unsubsidised rate. His announcement came days after government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said Putrajaya had pushed back the deadline for the rollout of targeted RON95 subsidies, initially fixed for the second half of the year. On Monday, he said more time was needed to fine-tune the mechanism to prevent leakage, and that Anwar had informed MPs from Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan of the matter. Anwar said the government would also postpone the increase in highway toll rates initially set to affect 10 highways this year. 'Toll rates were projected to increase this year according to an old agreement between the companies and a previous administration. 'However, the government has agreed not to implement the increase this year, and the government will bear RM500 million in costs to maintain the toll rates,' he said. The highways involved are the Cheras-Kajang Highway, KL-Kuala Selangor Highway, New North Klang Straits Bypass, Senai-Desaru Expressway, East Coast Expressway 2, South Klang Valley Expressway, Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge, Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway, Maju Expressway and Butterworth Outer Ring Road.

Toll hike freeze 2025: Full list of 10 affected highways and RM500m compensation
KUALA LUMPUR, 23 July — Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has identified the highways and expressways affected by the toll-rate freeze announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim this morning. He said 10 highways were due for toll rate increases under concession agreements signed by previous administrations. 'However, the Madani government deeply understands the cost of living pressures currently faced by the people. 'Therefore, this step to postpone toll rate increases is hoped to ease the burden on highway users,' the minister said in a statement after Anwar's announcement. The highways affected by the toll suspension are the Cheras-Kajang Highway (Grand Saga), KL-Kuala Selangor Highway (LATAR), New North Klang Straits Bypass (NNKSB), and Senai-Desaru Expressway (SDE). Also included are the East Coast Expressway Phase 2 (LPT2), South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE), Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge (JSAHMS), Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE), Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya Expressway (MEX), and Butterworth Outer Ring Road (LLB). The suspension is expected to benefit around 941,000 users, especially daily commuters travelling between home and work. The minister said this move reflects the government's effort to mitigate cost pressures for the rakyat. To ensure continued operations and maintenance, the government will compensate the affected concession companies with over RM500 million through the Ministry of Finance.
