2027 QB Teddy Jarrard commits to Notre Dame over Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State
Spending most of January preparing for Ohio State meant the Irish coaching staff couldn't scour the country looking for its next quarterback. That put the Irish staff relatively behind when it came to assessing quarterbacks in the Class of 2027, as everybody else — other than Ohio State — got a jump on the next cycle.

Now, Notre Dame is officially caught up.
On Thursday afternoon, four-star quarterback Teddy Jarrard committed to Notre Dame over finalists Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect from Kennesaw, Ga., was one of just two quarterbacks offered by the Irish this summer, along with Peyton Houston from Shreveport, La. Notre Dame didn't make those offers until mid-June.
Jarrard visited Notre Dame about two weeks before picking up that offer, as part of a busy summer that included visits to his other four finalists, along with LSU, Arkansas and Clemson. Jarrard also last month attended the Rivals Five-Star Challenge in Indianapolis, where he earned quarterback MVP honors while working with prospects a year older, including Notre Dame running back commitment Javian Osborne.
That recruiting showcase offered some insight into where Jarrard might be headed in the national rankings, which remain inconclusive. After the Rivals event, Jarrard jumped to No. 52 overall, No. 5 among Georgia prospects and No. 2 among quarterbacks on the network. That's in contrast to 247 Sports, which has Jarrard as a three-star prospect, No. 18 among quarterbacks and No. 35 among prospects from Georgia.
Jarrard still has two more years to prove where he really belongs in those rankings. He'll finish his high school career as a four-year starter, playing two seasons at North Cobb Christian before transferring to North Cobb High School. Last fall, Jarrard led North Cobb Christian to an 11-2 record while completing 222 of 323 passes for 2,762 yards and 31 touchdowns.
Jarrard is Notre Dame's third commitment in the Class of 2027, following linebacker Ellis McGaskin (Mobile, Ala.) and long snapper Sean Kraft (Asheville, N.C.).

While Notre Dame's women's basketball might be going through a transitional season even with FIBA Gold medalist Hanna Hidalgo leading the charge, there is still plenty of draw to South Bend with recruits. The Irish are off to a great start in the 2026 class, and while they just have one commitment, it's a significant one. Georgia small forward Bella Ragone decided to commit to Notre Dame at the end of May, as she's the No. 23 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Niele Ivey is looking to add another top prospect to join Ragone in power forward Jayda Porter. The 6-foot, 3-inch Missouri native is just behind her in the rankings, as the No. 31 overall player in the cycle and this weekend decided to schedule her official visit to South Bend for Sep. 13th. Porter also announced visits to Oklahoma, Nebraska and Wisconsin. She's the brother of NBA player Michael Porter Jr., and daughter to Michael Sr. who is currently the head coach at Missouri. Looking further ahead, the Irish extended an offer to 2028 New Jersey guard Giovanna Burress on Saturday. The sister of wide receiver Elijah and daughter of Plaxico, could eventually join her brother on campus as Notre Dame has offered extremely early. Giovanna is looking like a national prospect, so this could be the start of a long relationship. While the Irish are early, they are not the only big schools to offer as Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan State and others have already done so. It very much looks like Ivey is taking a page out of Marcus Freeman's recruiting playbook, offering players that have elite athletic lineages. Hopefully this strategy works as well for the women's basketball team as it has for the football team. Former Ohio State quarterback returns to Jets practice after injury scare
Earlier this week, former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields was carted off the field at Jets practice with an apparent foot injury. It was concerning, especially since the Jets have gone all-in on Fields as the starter this year. It was especially concerning for Fields because it might be his last chance to become a franchise quarterback in the NFL after some mixed results in Chicago and Pittsburgh. However, there is some good news on that front because Fields returned to practice just a day later on Friday. The official injury update is that it was just a dislocated toe -- which would be a big deal for you or me, but not so much for the prognosis of Fields continuing to get reps and eventually being in a position to start on opening day. Fields did not participate 100% in practice on Friday, but did throw some balls on the side, and is simply day-to-day on his return in the capacity needed. There are a lot of people rooting for Fields to be a difference-maker for the Jets, including many Ohio State fans. The talent is there; it's just always seemed like the right fit for Fields to show what he can do. Many Jets fans are also bullish on what the former Heisman finalist can do in the Big Apple, so the fact that the injury isn't serious is a very good thing for all rooting interests. Bijan Robinson is preparing for another busy season as Falcons' do-it-all running back
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga (AP) — Michael Penix Jr. enters his first full season as Atlanta's starting quarterback with the good fortune of knowing Bijan Robinson has been both productive and durable as the focus of the Falcons' offense at running back. Robinson was a do-it-all back for Atlanta in 2024, his second pro season. He ranked third in the league with 1,456 yards rushing and third among all running backs with 61 catches. He tied for fifth with 14 rushing touchdowns and was fourth with 304 carries. While Philadelphia's Saquon Barkley was voted the NFL's top running back by The Associated Press entering the season, Robinson was included in the top five. Now, after Penix made only three starts as a rookie to close last season, the Falcons can be expected to take advantage again of their strong running game with Robinson and Tyler Allgeier. 'You have to get him the rock,' Penix said at the start of training camp. "It's simple as that. It doesn't matter how we do it. Somehow, some way he's got to have the rock.' Robinson said he learned more about preparing for another busy season by working out with San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey in California this offseason. 'It was great,' Robinson said. 'Me and him just giving each other so many tips and feeding off knowledge from each other on the field. … We worked together the whole month. I got to see how he worked. He got to see how I worked. It was really cool two guys coming together trying to make each other better. He taught me some nuance moves on the field and I did the same for him.' The challenge for coach Raheem Morris is to make the most of Robinson's production while not overextending his workload. 'You definitely want to protect that kind of unique athlete,' Morris said, adding that Robinson 'doesn't need a governor' as an artificial cap on his number of carries. 'He's certainly one of those guys that can carry the load,' Morris said. 'Certainly one of the guys that has carried the load for us. And you could definitely do that. But we just happen to have some really good backs, you know? ... We have a luxury of having a guy like Tyler on our team.' Allgeier rushed for 1,035 yards as a rookie in 2022 and averaged 4.7 yards per carry while rushing for 644 yards on a career-low 137 carries last season. There is an emphasis on creating opportunities to use Allgeier more this season. 'We've got to find ways to get Tyler on the field, to find ways to feature him on the field,' Morris said. It wouldn't be a surprise to see more two-running back sets, perhaps with defenses having to monitor Robinson put in motion as a receiver while Allgeier remains lined up behind Penix. Kudos for Cousins General manager Terry Fontenot said Sunday that Kirk Cousins has been 'the ultimate professional' after losing his starting job to Penix last season and returning as a backup, despite speculation the veteran could be traded. 'Outside, it's a lot more of a big deal than it is in the building,' Fontenot said of the questions about Cousins' status. 'He shows up. He does his job just like anybody. ... He's been a great professional. He's handled himself well." Tip from Stick Fontenot said backup quarterback Easton Stick, who worked out with wide receiver D.J. Chark in the offseason after the two were Los Angeles Chargers teammates last season, passed along a recommendation that the Falcons look at signing the veteran. Chark worked out at the Falcons' facility on Friday and signed in time to have his first practice on Saturday. The timing was convenient, as starter Darnell Mooney is expected to miss several weeks with a shoulder injury. ___ AP NFL:
