Cairo International Film Festival Mourns the Loss of 'Lady of Arab Theatre' Samiha Ayoub

With heavy hearts, Cairo International Film Festival mourns the passing of the legendary actress Samiha Ayoub, the Lady of Arab Theatre, who departed our world leaving behind a timeless artistic legacy and a creative journey that spanned decades.
Throughout her career, she stood as a shining beacon in the sky of Arab art — a true embodiment of authentic talent, extraordinary charisma, and commanding presence. Samiha Ayoub was a symbol of artistic integrity and deep humanity, leaving an indelible mark on generations who grew up inspired by her works and noble character.
In a special statement, acclaimed actor Hussein Fahmy, President of Cairo International Film Festival, expressed his deep sorrow, saying:
"The great artist Samiha Ayoub has departed, but she will remain among us through the unforgettable roles and inspiring experiences she gifted to the world of art. She was a rare kind of artist and human being — a unique blend of strength and gentleness, discipline and compassion. She was always a symbol of the strong, cultured Egyptian woman. We have lost a monumental figure in our artistic journey, a dear companion, and a spiritual mother to many. May her soul rest in peace."

Held in honour of Mahmoud Yassin, the festival will spotlight Egyptian and international cinema from September 18th to the 22nd. Jun 05, 2025 The inaugural edition of the Port Said International Film Festival is set to take place from September 18th to the 22nd, 2025, in the coastal city of Port Said. The event is named in honour of the late Egyptian actor Mahmoud Yassin, a Port Said native, and is organised under the patronage of Major General Moheb Habashy, Governor of Port Said, and Minister of Culture Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hanno. Film critic Ahmed Asser serves as the festival's president. The festival will include a diverse programme of Egyptian and international film screenings, alongside workshops, seminars, and panel discussions aimed at fostering dialogue between filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences. Supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Syndicate of Film Professions led by Musaad Fouda, and the Port Said Association for Theatrical and Cultural Arts chaired by Abdel Salam El-Alfy, the festival aims to establish a lasting platform for cinematic exchange while enhancing Port Said's cultural footprint in the regional film scene.
