S'wak JPJ staff vehicles under scrutiny for regulatory compliance
State JPJ deputy director Nor Azlan Ibrahim said the initiative is aimed at setting a good example for the public on regulatory adherence and road safety.
'We want our officers and staff to serve as role models for the public. Therefore, all their vehicles must comply with the regulations under the Road Transport Act 1987 and the Road Transport Rules,' he said in a statement today.
He advised Sarawak vehicle owners to visit the nearest JPJ branch for information about legally allowed vehicle modifications.
Earlier, Nor Azlan took part in the JPJ Director's Operation No. 5/2025 held at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman here alongside JPJ Sarawak head of Operations Section Saifullah Ali.
Nor Azlan said the internal checks have been implemented since last year and any personnel's vehicle found to be non-compliant will be issued a notice for investigation and possible summons if they refuse to adhere.
'This action serves as an initial reminder. If they are still non-compliant, we will proceed with stricter action without further warning,' he added.
He said that, as an enforcement agency for road laws, JPJ will not tolerate any breaches of regulations committed by its personnel.
Nor Azlan also urged the public to comply with road rules, including safety standards and vehicle modifications, to ensure Sarawak's road environment remains safe and conducive.

MUAR: Two Bangladeshi cyclists were killed while another was injured in a hit-and-run incident here. Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said police received a report from the public about the incident, which occurred at around 8.45pm at Parit Salam, Parit Yusuf here on Friday (Aug 1). 'The third victim sustained fractures to his right wrist and shoulder and is currently being treated in the yellow zone of the same hospital,' he added. He said police are still working to identify and locate the driver of the vehicle involved. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a maximum fine of RM50,000 upon conviction. He urged the public to drive cautiously, obey traffic regulations and be vigilant, especially when passing through poorly lit areas. He added anyone who witnessed the accident or has information to contact investigating officer Insp Khairun Izham Noor Yusry at 013-9121508 or head to the Muar traffic police station to assist in the investigation.

Guar Chempedak crash: Teen succumbs to injuries, cop under probe
BALING: Police have assured a thorough and transparent investigation into the recent death of a teenage student who was hit by a vehicle driven by a policeman in Guar Chempedak. Kedah Police Chief Adzli Abu Shah said the police deeply regret the incident and extend their condolences to the victim's family. "We visited the family yesterday. I personally feel very saddened by this incident. "We will not tolerate any form of negligence. "A full investigation will be carried out without compromise, including an internal probe by the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department," he said at a press conference today. Adzli said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving resulting in death. "Initially, the case was investigated under Section 42(1), but it was reclassified following the victim's death," he said. He said the policeman involved has been detained for investigation and later released on police bail but has not been suspended from duty. "We will evaluate the need for suspension depending on the progress of the investigation," he said. The victim, a Form Four student, was critically injured after his motorcycle was struck by a car driven by a policeman who had allegedly run a red light in Guar Chempedak on Monday. The teen, identified as Muhammad Nur Iman Danial Mohd Roshidi, 16, succumbed to his injuries after nearly three days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star.

Factory operator killed in car crash in Kluang
KLUANG: A factory operator was killed after losing control of his car and crashing into a tree. Kluang deputy OCPD Supt Nik Mohd Azmi Husin said the police received information from the public about the accident, which occurred at KM76 Jalan Johor Baru–Ayer Hitam at 8.20 a.m. on Saturday (August 2). 'Preliminary investigation showed the 32-year-old male victim was travelling from Simpang Renggam to Ayer Hitam. 'Upon reaching the area, the victim is believed to have lost control of his vehicle before veering off the road and crashing into a tree on the left,' he said in a statement. He added that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries to the head and body. Further investigation is ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he said.
