Guar Chempedak crash: Teen succumbs to injuries, cop under probe

BALING: Police have assured a thorough and transparent investigation into the recent death of a teenage student who was hit by a vehicle driven by a policeman in Guar Chempedak.
Kedah Police Chief Adzli Abu Shah said the police deeply regret the incident and extend their condolences to the victim's family.
"We visited the family yesterday. I personally feel very saddened by this incident.
"We will not tolerate any form of negligence.
"A full investigation will be carried out without compromise, including an internal probe by the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department," he said at a press conference today.
Adzli said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving resulting in death.
"Initially, the case was investigated under Section 42(1), but it was reclassified following the victim's death," he said.
He said the policeman involved has been detained for investigation and later released on police bail but has not been suspended from duty.
"We will evaluate the need for suspension depending on the progress of the investigation," he said.
The victim, a Form Four student, was critically injured after his motorcycle was struck by a car driven by a policeman who had allegedly run a red light in Guar Chempedak on Monday.
The teen, identified as Muhammad Nur Iman Danial Mohd Roshidi, 16, succumbed to his injuries after nearly three days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star.
