Oregon football extends offer to 2029 OT prospect Xavier Berry
There's planning ahead, and then there is this.
Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks have extended a scholarship offer to Xavier Berry, a 6-foot-6, 260-pound offensive lineman from Puyallup, Wash. Berry's weight might be considered light for a college offensive lineman, but it's understanding for his age, as he will be entering the eighth grade in the fall.
Yes, the eighth grade.
Berry is in the Class of 2029, and a lot could change between now and then. But for now, colleges have at least one eye on Berry. As of now, he does not yet have a recruiting rating, but 247Sports shows that Berry has scholarship offers from Washington, Sacramento State, San Jose State, and the Ducks.
Berry is at least practicing with some upperclassmen instead of manhandling some poor 13-year-old. According to Reggie Jones, head football coach at Heir Academy, Berry could easily be the top lineman in his class when the time comes.
Oregon has become a popular destination for offensive linemen, however, so it shouldn't be a big surprise that the Ducks are eyeing talent such as Berry. They just had Josh Conerly go to the NFL, and have linemen such as Isaiah World wanting to make a name for themselves in Eugene.
Berry might not be the next in line, but he's definitely in line.

Florida football lands coveted blue-chip ATH Davian Groce in 2026 cycle

Florida football added its 19th player to the 2026 recruiting class with a commitment from four-star athlete Davian Groce on Monday. The 6-foot-1-inch, 190-pound multi-positional player out of Frisco (Texas) Lone Star projects mostly as a wide receiver but also got plenty of reps at running back during his prep career. He chose the Gators over the Oklahoma Sooners — who had been at the forefront for his talents — as well as the Baylor Bears and Houston Cougars, among others. Billy Napier and Co. welcomed the Texan to Gainesville as a late addition to his official visit schedule, swinging through the Swamp from June 13-15, putting the program back into focus for the coveted student-athlete. "Definitely stands at top three, for sure," Groce told Swamp247 after his official visit. "They're definitely in the mix of where I want to go, for sure." Groce also added, "It was real positive. It's the best team morale that I've been around, that I've seen." That sentiment carried over in the following month and culminated in his commitment. As for where he might line up for the Gators, it still appears to be a wide-open case. "Just being a football player, not having a position, really being positionless," on where Florida sees him in the offense. "Just get me around the field, give me the ball, really." Davian Groce's Recruiting Summary Groce is ranked No. 47 overall and No. 4 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite, while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 60 and 6, respectively. He ranks No. 36 on the ESPN 300 and No. 4 at his position nationally. One Oregon Duck named to ESPN preseason All-American team

ESPN released it's annual preseason college football All-American team on Monday, compiled with first- and second-teams. Just one Oregon Ducks player was included on the list: running back Makai Hughes, who joins the program after two seasons with the Tulane Green Wave. He was named a second-team running back alongside Penn State Nittany Lions' Kaytron Allen. Penn State's Nicholas Singleton and Notre Dame Fighting Irish's Jeremiyah Love occupy the first-team spots at the running back position. It's a nice honor for Hughes, who figures to be Oregon's top back in 2025 after compiling 2,779 rushing yard and 22 rush touchdowns in two seasons at Tulane. He's also a factor in the pass game, catching 30 passes for 243 yards and a pair of scores with the Green Wave. Cases could've been made for several other Ducks to be on the list: EDGE Matayo Uiagalelei, linebacker Bryce Boettcher and safety Dillon Thieneman. There could also be a conversation about wide receiver Dakorien Moore, who's considered to be one of the top true freshman in the country. However, none made the list, with Hughes being the lone Duck on ESPN's list. Traeshon Holden 'moving up the depth chart' with Dallas Cowboys

Former Oregon Ducks wide receiver Traeshon Holden is impressing with the Dallas Cowboys in training camp and during the first preseason game, earning high praise from his head coach. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer had this to say about Holden, who signed with Dallas as an unrestricted free agent after going undrafted in 2025: "He shows up every day," he said. "Literally every day there's been one or two big plays. And when you do that, you get noticed … you get more opportunities." He finished with the biggest statement of all, saying "You'll see him moving up the depth chart." Holden caught two passes for a team-high 42 yards in the Cowboys' preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams. That included a 35-yard reception on a vertical route from quarterback Joe Milton III. Milton, noticing the defense in Cover 2, layered a pass down the sideline to Holden, who caught it on the run before being tackled. After beginning his career with the Alabama Crimson Tide for two seasons, Holden transferred to Oregon for the final two seasons of his college tenure. In 26 games for the Ducks, Holden caught 83 passes for 1,170 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was the team's second-leading receiver in 2024. He finished his career with a monster seven-reception, 116-yard, two-touchdown performance in the Rose Bowl despite Oregon's 41-21 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Now carrying over that momentum to the pros, Holden, straight from his head coaches words, is moving up the depth chart in Dallas. If he continues to excel, he'll find himself in position to be on the Cowboys' final roster -- a major feat for an undrafted prospect.
