UNC basketball releases its full non-conference schedule for 2025-2026 season

USA Today8 hours ago

Which matchups are you most excited for?
As the UNC basketball team inches closer to the start of its 2025-2026 season, anticipation continues building in Chapel Hill.
With the exception of Seth Trimble, James Brown and Zayden High, everyone is a newcomer to the Tar Heels' star-studded roster.
North Carolina hit the transfer portal hard: bringing in 7-foot center Henri Veesaar, likely starting point guard Kyan Evans, hometown kid Jarin Stevenson, plus a pair of shooting guards in Jonathan Powell and Jaydon Young. Hubert Davis continued to showcase his recruiting prowess, with UNC's 2025 recruiting class including Top-10 recruit Caleb Wilson, plus a pair of combo guards in Derek Dixon and Isaiah Denis.
The Tar Heels previously teased fans about their upcoming season, releasing a few non-conference matchups. North Carolina released the rest of their non-conference opponents on Friday, now allowing fans to prepare which nights they'll be in the Dean Dome, on the road, or on their couches.
Outside of a road clash with Kentucky, a neutral-site battle with Ohio State, plus a pair of Fort Myers (Fla.) Tip-Off games against Michigan State and St. Bonaventure, you'll notice one eye-popping characteristic about UNC's non-conference schedule: every matchup is in the Dean Dome.
The Tar Heels' first official home game will be Monday, November 3 against Central Arkansas, which became Division I in 2010. Four days later, North Carolina will host a highly-anticipated matchup against Kansas, which won in Allen Fieldhouse last year.
Radford (Nov. 11), NC Central (Nov. 14) and Navy (Nov. 18) are all winnable games, then UNC faces a strong Atlantic 10 program in St. Bonaventure, followed by a Thanksgiving Day game against Tom Izzo's Spartans. Rupp Arena will be rocking on December 2, as will the Dean Dome on December 7 against Georgetown.
USC-Upstate, ETSU and ECU are all teams the Tar Heels should beat handily, while Ohio State will provide a strong challenge.

2026 4-star DB is reportedly down to Texas A&M and South Carolina

Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class has been one of the hottest cycles throughout the summer. While Notre Dame and Georgia's 2026 classes have overtaken the Aggies, rankings are meaningless at the end of the year, as the program has assembled an elite group of athletes who have future star potential. One of the cycle's potential new additions is set to announce his commitment on July 14, as 2026 four-star safety Tamarion Watkins is reportedly down to South Carolina and Texas A&M as the final two programs he will consider heading into the new month. Watkins has been an Aggie target for quite some time, and despite the Gamecocks leading the way for the South Carolina native, Watkins feels that both programs would be an excellent fit for his versatile skill set, as the Aggies likely intend to use him as a slot corner at the next level paired with his safety responsibilities. "Now that I've had a great time at all of these places, I've narrowed it down. I'm focused on two" Outside of his elite coverage ability, Watkins is a form tackler who isn't afraid to make contact, especially in the box against the run. During his 2024 junior season, he recorded 75 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and three interceptions. Texas A&M's safety future is in good hands, mainly due to the youth at the position, while Elko has done a solid job in the transfer portal when replenishing position groups. Watkins may not be a five-star prospect who's seen as an instant contributor. Still, his future is undoubtedly bright, and he should develop into a reliable defender for either defense. Social media reacts to Alabama players signing undrafted NBA free agent deals

Over the course of this past Wednesday and Thursday night, the Alabama Crimson Tide did not see any of their four draft-eligible players selected in the two rounds of the 2025 NBA draft. Yes, throughout both the first-and-second rounds, none of Alabama's four draft-eligible prospects - Mark Sears, Grant Nelson, Clifford Omoruyi, and Chris Youngblood - heard their names called, and instead entered undrafted free agency late Friday night. Since, it has not taken those four Alabama players long to find a new home at the professional level either, as all have signed an undrafted free agent deal as of Friday, June 27. Let's take a look at some reactions on social media to Alabama's draft prospects landing with NBA teams on free agent deals. Former UNC wide receiver praises Bill Belichick for his coaching style

This former UNC football player had some nice things to say about Chapel Bill. 2024 was another lost football season for the North Carolina Tar Heels, whom – despite clinching their sixth-consecutive trip to a bowl game – finished with their second losing record in four seasons. If you thought last year was bad for UNC, take a look at Florida State. The Seminoles started 2024 ranked, as they typically are, then proceeded to win just two games. North Carolina reloaded its roster this offseason under new head coach Bill Belichick, who brings eight Super Bowls and countless experience to Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels' greatest replacements come on defense, though, replacing their entire starting defensive line with the likes of Pryce Yates and Vilbert Smith. Gavin Blackwell, who played his first four collegiate seasons at UNC, had an opportunity to learn from Belichick for a few months. Now on FSU, Blackwell praised his former head coach, despite never suiting up for him. "He was great," Blackwell said. "Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about Coach (Bill) Belichick. He loves football. Everything you see online and stuff like that, I would kind of say the media portrays it a little bit differently than what it is inside the building. He loves his players, he loves his coaches and he's all about ball. He kind of brought more of an NFL aspect to college and that's kind of what they're running there. But himself, he's down-to-earth dude, not a big-headed guy. You can go up to him, have a conversation, talk ball with him. He loves that type of stuff and when you show that you're interested, he's gonna make sure he gives you that same respect and try to help you as much as he can. He's got eight Super Bowls. Great dude, wish them the best." Blackwell redshirted his first collegiate season in 2021, appearing in just one game, but emerged the following year with 239 receiving yards and his lone touchdown. Now on a Mike Norvell-led roster desperately searching for productive talent, Blackwell has a real chance to put up WR1 numbers.
