Saudi customs record 1,626 seizures of contraband
RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's land, sea, and air customs ports recorded 1,626 seizures of contraband as part of ongoing efforts by the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) to strengthen security and protect society from prohibited goods of all types.
The confiscated items included 73 categories of narcotics, such as hashish, cocaine, heroin, shabu, and Captagon pills, along with 882 banned substances.
Customs officials also foiled attempts to smuggle 2,886 shipments of tobacco and its derivatives, 45 cases involving undeclared cash, and four cases of weapons and related equipment.
ZATCA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict control over the Kingdom's imports and exports, in coordination with relevant government agencies, to safeguard the community and national economy.

Nearly 22,000 violators of residency, border security and labor laws arrested in a week
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Saudi security authorities have arrested a total of 21,997 illegal residents last week. The arrests were made during the joint inspections, carried out by the security forces in collaboration with the relevant government agencies, during the period between Aug. 7 and Aug. 13, the Ministry of Interior revealed on Saturday. Those who were arrested included 13,434 violators of the Residency Law, 4,697 violators of the Border Security Law, and 3,866 violators of the Labor Law. The total number of people who were arrested while trying to cross the border into the Kingdom accounted for 1,787, of whom 35 percent were Yemeni nationals, 64 percent Ethiopian nationals, and one percent belonged to other nationalities. A total of 27 people were arrested while attempting to leave the Kingdom illegally. A total of 18,149 violators were referred to their diplomatic missions to obtain travel documents while 2,973 violators were referred to complete their travel reservations and 12,861 violators were deported. Some 18people involved in giving transportation, shelter, and employment for violators were also arrested. A total of 25,439 expatriates, including 22,837 men and 2,602 women, are currently undergoing procedures to enforce regulations. The Ministry of Interior has warned that any person, who facilitates the illegal entry of individuals into the Kingdom, transports them on its territory, provides them with shelter or any other assistance or service will be penalized with up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to SR1 million, and that the vehicles used for transportation or houses used for giving shelter will be confiscated. The ministry urged the public to report any cases of violation by calling the number 911 in the regions of Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province and the numbers 999 and 996 in the rest of the Kingdom's regions.

Riyadh Mayoralty shuts 84 erring establishments
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Riyadh Mayoralty carried out an intensive inspection campaign in the Manfuha neighborhood, resulting in the closure of 84 establishments for committing various violations. The mayoralty served 531 notices, and disconnected power supply to 11 sites. It also confiscated 31,620 products that were unfit for human consumption, in addition to destruction of 5,322 kg of food items and 25 kg of tobacco products. Sixteen vehicles were impounded. A total of more than 400 violations were detected during the inspection raids. The campaign, which was carried out in cooperation with security authorities and several government agencies, in response to reports received by the mayoralty via its "Madinaty" app regarding violations affecting food safety and product quality. The inspection campaign covered food establishments, meat shops, cafes, street vendors, as well as homes converted into food warehouses and tobacco establishments, in the Manfuha neighborhood featuring a high population density and bustling commercial activity. The mayoralty took strict measures, including warnings, issuing reports, imposing fines, and closing establishments that pose a risk to public health, as part of efforts to protect consumers and prevent the recurrence of such practices. The mayoralty said that it will continue campaigns with daily and periodic inspections and monitoring violations of establishments by using modern technological systems. It called on citizens and residents to cooperate with it through reporting violations via the "Madinaty" app, praising their role in enhancing oversight and achieving a safe urban environment.

Jordan authorities seize half a million Captagon pills in smuggling attempt
CAIRO: Jordanian Customs and the anti-narcotics department foiled an attempt to smuggle a total of 517,000 Captagon pills into the country, according to Petra News Agency. The Karameh Customs Center said Wednesday the seized drugs were professionally hidden inside metal trays that seemed to be designed specifically for the purpose of smuggling. The drugs were carried inside a truck arriving from a neighboring country, it added. At dawn, the Jordanian military also thwarted another drug smuggling attempt in which smugglers loaded balloons with drugs and controlled them using primitive devices. The seized items were transferred to the competent authorities.
