Marseille Rope In Brzilian Forward Igor Paixao From Feyenoord
Reports claim that the 25-year-old put pen to paper on a five-year deal valued at around the 35 million euros mark, a record fee for the French side.
French side Marseille completed the move to rope in Brazilian forward Igor Paixao from Dutch club Feyenoord on Friday as the Ligue 1 side added firepower to their ranks.
Reports claim that the 25-year-old put pen to paper on a five-year deal valued at around the 35 million euros mark, a record fee for the French side.
Paixo, who began his youth career at Cortiba before making his senior debut for the club in the year 2019, went on to play for the Brazilian side up until the 2022 season, including a loan spell at Londrina in the 2020/21 campaign. The striker joined Feyenoord in 2022, and led the Dutch side to the league title the following season.
In the recently concluded season of the Eredivisie, he found the back of the net 18 times and set up his teammates with 19 assists. He was befittingly named player of the year for his contributions towards his side's success. The Brazilian also got the telling touch for the De StadionClub in their Dutch Cup triumph over Nijmegen.
The forward was also rewarded for his showings at club level with a national team call-up as he donned the famous canary yellow drip of the South American nation in 2023 with the Olympic team.
Feyenoord finished the recently concluded 2024/25 season of the Dutch top-flight third, behind winners PSV and second-placed Ajax, with 68 points to their name from 34 outings, which sealed their berth in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
PSV clinched the title following a shocking run of results for Amsterdam-based Ajax, who capitulated the season towards the end of the campaign with a string of subpar showings.
