T.N. police arrest terror suspect who remained elusive for 30 years
Abubacker Siddique was evading arrest since 1995 and was implicated in several major terror-related incidents, including the 1995 Hindu Munnani office blast in Chintadripet, Chennai, a parcel bomb explosion in Nagore in the same year resulting in the death of one Thangam, coordinated bomb planting in 1999 at seven locations across Chennai, Tiruchi, Coimbatore, and Kerala, the 2011 pipe bomb planting attempt during former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani's Rath Yatra in Madurai, the 2012 murder of Dr. Arvind Reddy in Vellore, and the 2013 bomb blast near the BJP office in Malleswaram, Bengaluru.
Acting on specific intelligence, a special team of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested Abubacker Siddique, a native of Nagore, and his associate Mohammed Ali, a resident of Melapalayam, Tirunelveli.
Mohammed Ali had been absconding for 26 years and was also wanted in connection with the 1999 bomb planting incidents at multiple locations in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Both the accused were produced in a city court and remanded in judicial custody.

PATNA Ahead of the Assembly election later this year in Bihar, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh targeted the opposition Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Wednesday, alleging that these parties only have the sole aim of remaining in power by any means. He was in Patna to attend the Bihar BJP Working Committee meeting, in which several resolutions were passed in the presence of senior party leaders. Addressing the meeting, the Defence Minister sought to draw the blueprint for the BJP, 'the world's largest party', to take on the Opposition. 'When the Opposition talks about the politics of hatred, we have to answer it with the politics of service. When they talk about pushing Bihar back, we will talk about the road map of a bright future. When they distract the people of Bihar from issues, we should talk about educated Bihar,' he said. Mr. Singh also referred to RJD's rule in the past as 'Jungle Raj' and said Bihar has suffered injustice for decades. 'In the last two decades, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bihar has made unprecedented progress and the old image of Jungle Raj has been broken,' he said. Expressing confidence that the Janata Dal (United) and BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar will again form the government with a two-thirds majority in the State election due in October-November, he exhorted party cadres to reach every house and share information about the schemes and achievements of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. 'We have to convince the people that if anyone can bring back the lost glory of Bihar, it is BJP and NDA,' Mr. Singh said. BJP State president Dilip Jaiswal, who was chairing the meeting, said everyone got new direction and energy from the speech of Mr. Singh. 'Now we will go among the people and tell them about the development that has happened during the NDA government,' he said. Resolutions passed The BJP's Bihar unit passed a resolution criticising the 'appeasement politics' of the Mahagathbandhan helmed by Lalu Prasad's RJD, which has been opposing the Waqf (Amendment) Act that came into force in April. The party passed a two-page political resolution, besides a 'Vijay Sankalp Prastav' that declared 'Lalu [Prasad] and his allies cannot defeat us' in the Assembly poll. The resolution also touched upon the Emergency imposed 50 years ago, and alleged that the 'lives of many generations were wasted behind [Indira Gandhi's] slogan 'Garibi Hatao'. It was under Modi that 27 crore people have been able to overcome poverty'. The resolution also lauded the Defence Minister for 'giving a strong message to China, while on its soil, against double standards towards terror, by refusing to sign the joint statement at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Defence Ministers' meeting'.

Storm in Assembly over BJP MLA Lonikar's farmer remark; MVA demands apology
Nagpur: The Maharashtra legislative assembly witnessed heated debate on Wednesday over alleged derogatory remarks made by BJP MLA Babanrao Lonikar about farmers. The comments sparked strong reactions from the opposition, with Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) MLAs demanding an unconditional apology from the former minister, accusing him of insulting those who "feed the nation. " Congress legislature party leader Vijay Wadettiwar led the charge, stating, "How can an elected representative make such demeaning comments about farmers? This is an insult to the entire farming community. He must apologise on the floor of the House." Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray and other opposition leaders echoed the demand, calling Lonikar's remarks unacceptable and insensitive. In his defence, Lonikar denied the allegations. Tripura Chief Minister To Expand Cabinet Tomorrow: Report
Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha would expand his council of ministers on July 3, sources said on Wednesday. Sources said that on the advice of the Chief Minister, Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu would administer the oath of office and secrecy to the new minister at the Raj Bhavan. One probable name -- Kishore Barman -- is doing the rounds about the possible minister. BJP MLA Barman was elected in the 2023 Assembly polls from Nalchar constituency in Sepahijala district. As per the constitutional mandate, the size of the council of ministers is 12, including the Chief Minister. One ministerial berth has been lying vacant. The sources said that at least five BJP MLAs are the contenders for the ministerial berths. On March 8, 2023, the BJP and Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) coalition government led by Saha came to power for the second consecutive term. The Tipra Motha Party (TMP), headed by former royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, contested the 2023 Assembly polls separately but in March last year, after signing a tripartite agreement with the Centre and the Tripura government, joined the BJP-IPFT coalition government, adding a new twist to Tripura politics. Accordingly, two TMP MLAs -- Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma -- were inducted into the ministry. The IPFT currently has one minister -- Sukla Charan Noatia -- in the 11-member council of the ministry. The BJP-IPFT alliance had retained power in Tripura by winning 33 seats in the 60-member Assembly. The TMP, which contested the Assembly elections in 2023 for the first time, won 13 seats of the 42 seats it contested, emerging as the second largest party after the BJP. The CPI-M won 11 seats in the elections while the Congress bagged three. The CPI-M-led Left Front and the Congress had a seat-sharing arrangement for the elections. The TMP became a political force in April 2021 after it wrested power in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. The politically important TTAADC has jurisdiction over two-thirds of Tripura's 10,491 sq km area, and is home to over 1,21,6000 people, of which around 84 per cent are tribals.
