Hariyali Teej fasting rules: Learn what foods to eat and avoid, and how to break the Nirjala fast properly without harming your health
Hariyali Teej is a deeply significant festival celebrated by women on the Tritiya Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Sawan. It honours Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, symbolising love, harmony, and marital bliss. On this auspicious day, many women observe a strict Nirjala Vrat, where they abstain from both food and water until the evening prayers are completed.
Given the intensity of this fast, it's essential to break it carefully with nourishing and suitable foods. Bhopal-based astrologer and Vastu expert Pandit Hitendra Kumar Sharma shares key dietary do's and don'ts to follow during and after the fast.
Foods To Avoid During Hariyali Teej Fast
Grains and Non-Vegetarian Food: Abstain from consuming grains like rice and wheat, and strictly avoid all non-vegetarian items such as meat, eggs, and fish.
Onion and Garlic: As these are not considered satvik and are traditionally excluded from worship rituals, they should not be used during Teej fasting.
Fried and Spicy Foods: Heavy, spicy, and oily foods are hard to digest and can cause discomfort, especially after a day of fasting.
Stale or Junk Food: Avoid stale, processed, or market-bought fast food. These are often laced with preservatives and excess oil, making them unsuitable for breaking a fast.
Alcohol and Intoxicants: These not only violate the sanctity of the vrat but also harm the body. All intoxicants must be strictly avoided.
Excess Sugar or Sweets: Overeating sugary items can lead to fatigue, bloating, and even nausea. Always consume sweets in limited amounts.
Hariyali Teej is not just about spiritual devotion but also about honouring one's body through mindful fasting. Understanding which foods support recovery post-fast is crucial to maintaining health and energy. By following these simple yet effective guidelines, you can break your Nirjala Vrat safely while preserving the sanctity and intent behind this auspicious tradition.

Odisha Deputy CM launches campaign to boost anganwadi centres

Bhubaneswar, Jul 30 (PTI) Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Wednesday launched a fortnightly campaign aimed at strengthening anganwadi centres across the state. Parida unveiled the 'Aasa Jiba Anganwadi' campaign, which will run from August 1-15, while inaugurating a state-level capacity building workshop for Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) here. He appealed to people to visit their nearest anganwadi centres, assess cleanliness, infrastructure and functioning, and share the feedback for improvement in services. The campaign aligns with the World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7) and aims to foster community ownership of early childhood development, officials said. 'The strength of our child development efforts lies in the capability of the CDPOs at the grassroots level," Parida said. She emphasised that Odisha's vision of becoming a malnutrition-free state by 2036 depends on empowering frontline leaders, and CDPOs play a central role in this transformation. During the occasion, she also launched the 'Anganwadi Welfare and Service Oversight Monitoring Everywhere (AWESOME)' app – a digital tool designed to strengthen infrastructure monitoring and service delivery at anganwadi centres. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, speaking at the event, asked the CDPOs to adopt people-centric strategies, noting the central role of health, nutrition and early childhood education in the 'Vision Odisha 2036' framework. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between the Women & Child Development Department and the National Institute of Public Cooperation & Child Development (NIPCCD) to ensure continuous training and capacity building of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) officers and staff in Odisha. Red fox released in its natural habitat after month-long treatment in Ladakh

Leh, Jul 30 (PTI) A red fox, rescued in an injured condition, was released in its natural habitat by the wildlife department here after it underwent a month-long treatment and rehabilitation process, an official said on Wednesday. The fox was rescued on July 1 from Spituk Farka village of Leh and transported to the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre (WRRC) for treatment, the official said. He said a thorough medical examination revealed that the animal was wounded in the shoulder and forearm, an injury probably caused by a barbed wire or a metal chain. As the injury was old, the area around the wound was infected and infested with maggots, the official said, adding that the animal was found to be underweight and in a weakened state. The red fox underwent proper treatment and care at the WRRC, including nutritional feeding, deworming and daily health monitoring, he added. The official said the rehabilitation was crucial for the animal for regaining strength and recovering from stress and malnutrition. The animal underwent treatment and rehabilitation for about a month and attained sound health before it was released near Spituk Farka following all necessary protocols, the official said.
