
Yango Ads' 2025 Travel Report reveals more than 48% of tourists are influenced by targeted ads
Yango Ads, the Ad Tech division of Yango Group, a global tech company that transforms advanced technologies into practical services for people in their daily lives, has published its latest report, the 2025 Tourism Industry Guide, revealing a major shift in travel behaviour from emerging markets. Travellers from these regions are increasingly setting their sights on the UAE, which has rapidly emerged as one of the top choices as a vacation destination in the Middle East.
The survey included 768 respondents, whose responses highlighted that with rising disposable incomes and a growing interest in cultural and premium experiences, these travellers are no longer just chasing budget getaways. Yango Ads' insights highlight a valuable opportunity for businesses in the Middle East to tap into a fast-growing and lucrative audience by tailoring their marketing strategies.
Over the past few years, the UAE has seen a remarkable rise in popularity among tourists from emerging markets, with over 20% of travellers from these markets choosing it as a destination in 2024 —solidifying its position as one of the region's top travel choices. The data reveals that 60% of tourists from these regions plan their trips two to three months in advance, and a majority (61.8%) prefer medium-length vacations of eight to fourteen days—giving marketers a clear window to engage them. While once associated with economy travel, nearly half of respondents are now spending up to $2,000 on vacations, and 40% even exceed that threshold, investing in premium accommodations and unique experiences.
Comfort is increasingly important to this audience. A significant 67.5% choose four to five-star hotels, while only 28.7% opt for lower-tier properties. Family-centric travel is especially dominant, with 51.9% vacationing with their families, with 36.2% of travellers between 35-44 years of age, highlighting strong demand for bundled offers that include child-friendly entertainment and group transportation.
When selecting a destination, tourists prioritise a pleasant climate, which was cited by 58.6% of respondents, followed by affordable travel costs at 44%. Flight convenience, rich cultural attractions, and accessible visa regulations also shape their decisions and are also major decision-making factors. With its warm weather, world-class infrastructure, central location and tourist-friendly policies, the UAE is uniquely positioned to capture attention—if the message is well-timed and targeted.
The report showed that tourists are highly responsive to digital channels. According to the report, almost half (48.3%) were influenced by targeted ad campaigns, while 41.7% turned to search engines, 21% responded to Telegram Ads, and almost 20% relied on social media recommendations. With this level of digital responsiveness, there is a clear opportunity for tourism stakeholders to shift investment toward data-driven, high-impact advertising strategies.

In the strongest work, creators showed up as architects – of meaning, of culture, of experience. These were not just people with followers – they were communities, meme accounts, collectives, and even non-humans. In The Gravy Race – a clever, highly-awarded campaign this year, Sheba built an entire entertainment property around internet-famous cats. In Into the Aldiverse – a beautiful campaign by ALDI gaming, the creators weren't individuals, but a collective where partnering with an anime studio in Japan, the brand showed us how co-creation can extend into entire worlds. From individuals with unique POVs to cultural collectives and meme machines, creators are being redefined – not by format or following, but by the role they play in shaping attention and emotion. What makes work win Across all the work, three things stood out: 1. Simplicity wins: This year's graphite pencil winner and jury favourite, Handwash Legend by Savlon India, transformed a single hip hop gesture into a national hygiene movement. By remixing Emiway Bantai's iconic 'hand rub' into a handwashing anthem, the campaign blurred the lines between music, meme, and message. It was simple, sticky, and smart – and a reminder that when brands co-create with cultural figures, even a hygiene habit can go viral. 2. Speed matters: Another standout was the Blurred Unboxing by Colombian snack brand Ramo. It began with a TikTok creator cheekily blurring out a brand logo; within 24 hours, the brand responded with a custom, pixelated package that was sent to the creator, sparking a viral moment that was awarded D&AD's yellow pencil this year. In a world where culture moves at the speed of social – this campaign is a masterclass in listening, agility, and the impact of a simple, real-time gesture. 3. Take it further: Some of the most impactful work also moved beyond the feed and into the real world. Amazon's Money Can't Buy Experiences, a wood pencil winner, reframed creators as experience designers, co-creating events that felt personal, not promotional. In an age of digital fatigue, this campaign was a reminder that true influence isn't confined to screens and taking co-creation further gave the campaign weight-and longevity. Quick note to the region: How to 'win in creator content' On a personal note, I was thrilled to see Dubai represented in the Safe at 3AM campaign. It was sharp, relevant, and executed with insight – live streaming a runner through the city to tackle global perceptions around safety. While it didn't make the shortlist at D&AD, it deserves recognition. Perhaps it's a reflection of where the bar now sits: strong insight and elegant execution are a starting point. But to win in creator content, ideas need to go further – beyond narrative into participation, experience, and depth. There's no shortage of creative talent or storytelling in the region. According to We Are Social's latest Global Digital Report, influencer marketing continues to grow rapidly across MENA with influencer advertising spending up 12.5 per cent (YOY) and 13.7 per cent (YOY) in 2025, for the UAE and KSA respectively. The challenge – and the opportunity – is to take what's working and stretch it. Final takeaway: Stop chasing in fl uence. Start building culture The creator content category is growing up. Creators are no longer just channels. They're collectives, studios, and custodians of identity. The brands that win, will be ones that let a creator's perspective shape the work – not just promote it. With campaigns that are rooted in culture, built for longevity, and extend beyond the screen. ‘It feels surreal': Thousands of Emirati pilgrims now in Makkah for sacred Hajj
3 June 2025 01:00 MAYS IBRAHIM (ABU DHABI)Thousands of UAE pilgrims have arrived in the holy city of Makkah, ready to begin the sacred rites of Hajj after months of preparation and anticipation. Saudi Arabia announced that the annual pilgrimage will begin on June 4 upon the sighting of the Dhul-Hijjah crescent year, the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat (Awqaf) approved a total of 6,228 UAE pilgrims for the 1446 AH / 2025 AD Hajj season, in accordance with the quota allocated by Saudi authorities. A significant 91% of the pilgrims are performing Hajj for the first time, while the rest include 'mahrams', companions, and supervisors from the UAE Hajj Affairs registration process for UAE residents was conducted between September 19 and 30, 2024, via the official Awqaf smart app and website. To be eligible, applicants had to be UAE citizens aged 12 or older and not have performed Hajj in the last five seasons. Priority was given to those who had never performed Hajj, especially people of determination, the elderly, and individuals with chronic tour operators in the UAE began preparations at the start of the year, with growing interest from eligible pilgrims until the final list was announced on February 5. 'Our pilgrims arrived in Makkah between May 28 and June 1,' Faisal Raheem, operations manager at a licensed Hajj and Umrah operator in Abu Dhabi, told Aletihad . 'After settling in, they performed Umrah right away. Now, they're resting, attending educational sessions, and preparing mentally and spiritually for the days ahead.' Peaceful and Surreal Abdullah, a 34-year-old Emirati pilgrim who is performing Hajj for the first time described his experience in Makkah as 'surreal'.'I'm now spending as much time as I can praying and making du'a,' he said. 'The heat is tough, but the spirit here makes you forget the discomfort,' he told Aletihad. Aisha Al Hammadi, a 41-year-old teacher from Sharjah, noted the importance of both physical and spiritual readiness ahead of the pilgrimage. 'I started preparing months ago,' she told Aletihad. 'I attended workshops, listened to lectures online, and walked daily to build stamina. But the most important part was preparing my heart and making peace with people.'Hamda, 25, is attending the pilgrimage with her father, sister, and aunt. 'It feels so surreal seeing this many people gather in one spot to worship Allah,' she told Aletihad. 'Although the place is very packed, the peacefulness of these great days is overwhelming.' Hajj Guide Hajj packages from the UAE are priced between Dh27,000 and Dh55,000, depending on hotel category, duration of stay, and proximity to the holy sites, according to Heba Ahmad, an agent at a licensed tour operator in Abu Dhabi. These packages include flights, accommodation, local transportation, and logistical support.'Our team arrives a day or two early to make sure everything is in place,' Ahmad told Aletihad. 'We also have staff who accompany the groups throughout the pilgrimage.'Pilgrims are encouraged to register with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' 'Twajudi' service to ensure easy communication and receive assistance in case of an emergency. Additionally, 62 supervisory personnel from the UAE Hajj Affairs Office are on the ground to oversee the delivery of top-quality services, adherence to health guidelines, and proper performance of religious rites.
