Samsung to invest $117 million in southern Indian facility, minister says
South Korea's
Samsung Electronics
will invest 10 billion rupees ($117.09 million) in its facility in southern India, a minister said on Friday, months after the plant faced worker protests following employee suspensions.

The plant near Chennai has been in the spotlight in recent months after workers staged a sit-in over employee suspensions in February - the second major labour dispute there in under six months.
In September last year, hundreds of workers went on a five-week strike at the plant, seeking higher wages and
union recognition
before the electronics manufacturer agreed to address workers' demands. The company's additional investment "reinforces their faith in the labour force of
Tamil Nadu
state," T. R. B. Rajaa, the state's minister for industries, investment promotion and commerce, said on social media platform X, adding that Samsung would add 100 more jobs to the facility.

The workers' union is at loggerheads with Samsung, accusing the company of union-busting tactics. Samsung, however, has maintained it is "compliant with all applicable laws."
It currently employs more than 2,000 people. Samsung did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The minister did not give a time frame for the investment.

UP CM adviser holds talks with Goswami community over Banke Bihari Corridor
Agra: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath's adviser Awanish Kumar Awasthi on Friday, chaired a meeting at the tourist facilitation centre in Vrindavan, to discuss issues related to the proposed Banke Bihari Corridor with members of the Goswami community involved in the management of the temple, local shopkeepers and residents. Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Awasthi said the proposed project aims to enhance facilities for pilgrims, and efficiently manage the increasing pilgrim footfall in the Mathura-Vrindavan area. "The number of pilgrims visiting the area is rising exponentially. Today's meeting focused on how to effectively cater to this surge while ensuring public confidence and participation in the planning process. This was the first round of discussions, and it was very productive," he said. On concerns raised by the Goswami community regarding the project, Awasthi said several suggestions had been put forth during the meeting. "The district magistrate and other officials will carefully evaluate these inputs. The state govt aims to proceed with the most inclusive and best possible option to take the project forward," Awasthi said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Established in 1862 in the heart of Vrindavan, the Shri Banke Bihari temple is administered by Shebaits — a hereditary priesthood responsible for daily rituals and temple management. It remains one of North India's most visited pilgrimage sites. The Supreme Court's May 15 verdict came amid ongoing protests by members of the Goswami community and local residents, who have opposed both the corridor project and the formation of Banke Bihari Temple Trust. The court's decision, delivered by a bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and SC Sharma, cleared the way for the govt to move ahead with its Rs 500 crore redevelopment plan, which includes acquiring nearly five acres of land near the shrine, using temple funds. Calls for redevelopment intensified after a stampede-like incident during Janmashtami celebrations in 2022, left two dead. In Sept 2023, the Allahabad high court directed the state govt to implement a corridor plan for improved crowd management and safety. While officials claim stakeholders were consulted, Shebaits and local residents have alleged they were excluded from the planning process. Story of a 17-year-old: From discontinuing studies to later clearing SSLC
Mysuru: Here's a touching narrative of resilience and determination. A student from the city discontinued formal schooling in Class VI, yet four years later achieved first-class results in the 2024-25 SSLC examination as a private candidate. Subsequently, a pre-university college offered comprehensive support to make his dream of pursuing higher education, including free education, uniform, meals, transport, and specialised coaching in CA foundation, AI, and additional skills. This chronicles 17-year-old Rushil's journey. His family's separation during his Class III led to his relocation to Bengaluru with his father, where he enrolled in a public school. Financial constraints forced him to leave after completing Class VI, without obtaining a transfer certificate. He returned to Mysuru to live with his mother at his grandfather's residence. Despite attempts to secure admission in a Mysuru private school, the absence of documentation and substantial fees were barriers. In May 2022, his grandfather contacted Kaliyuva Mane, a free residential alternative school in Kenchalagudu. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Based on the affidavit submitted by his mother, Rushil qualified to appear for the SSLC examination as a private candidate. So, when we took him to the Vishwaprajna Composite PU College in Dattagalli of the city, the college offered free education, uniform, transport facility, coaching for various courses, etc. He wishes to pursue BCA/BCom," explained Ananth Kumar, founder, Kaliyuva Mane. Sunil Raj HC, managing trustee of the Vishwaprajna Composite PU College, said, "We are running a charitable trust called Samartha Jnanashraya Charitable Trust. The main aim of this trust is offering free education. Last year we offered free education for 20 students in science stream." "This year, we are giving free education for 30 more students. Along with merit, we also consider various challenges faced by the students even if they didn't score good marks, like children of single parents, defence, poor families, etc., to offer free education. We are extending all support for Rushil from spoken English to AI along with free education, transport facilities, etc.," he added. Uttarakhand HC stops construction work on Mussoorie's Mall Road
Dehradun: Uttarakhand high court on Friday halted ongoing construction work by the Mussoorie municipality on the road connecting Mall Road to Library road. While hearing a public interest petition filed by Mussoorie resident Pradeep Sah against the construction, the bench comprising Chief Justice G Narendar and Justice Alok Mahra ordered the halt and instructed the municipality to submit a response within three weeks. The next hearing in the case will also be held after three weeks. The public interest petition states that in 2023, the Mussoorie municipality passed a proposal to remove an existing dispensary from the middle of Mall Road to streamline traffic, which improved the traffic situation. However, the municipality resumed construction at the same location following a board meeting in March 2025. The petitioner argues that building in the middle of the road could lead to traffic jams and other inconveniences, and therefore, the construction should be stopped.
