Bolivia President Arce Declines Candidacy, Calls for Left-Wing Unity
The decision is likely to bolster the bid of Rodriguez, the Senate president, to become the standard-bearer for the left. The right wing, meanwhile, remains splintered among several candidates, despite efforts by Bolivian billionaire Marcelo Claure to consolidate support behind a single contender.

Brazil to provide $5.6 billion to help exporters navigate US tariffs
BRASILIA (Reuters) -Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Tuesday said his government would provide 30 billion reais ($5.55 billion) in credit as part of a plan to support companies that export goods and are affected by steeper tariffs imposed from Washington. In an interview with local news outlet BandNews, Lula said this was an initial amount to help the exporters, adding the package will also include support through government purchases. The government is set to announce on Wednesday the highly anticipated plan at an event 11:30 a.m. (1430 GMT) in the capital Brasilia, according to the office of Lula's chief of staff. Reuters had reported last week, citing sources, that Brazil's government was mulling shifting some 30 billion reais from a fund managed by state development bank BNDES to support local firms hit the tariffs. The U.S. hiked the levies imposed on the imports of Brazilian goods to 50% from 10% earlier this month, although products including orange juice and aircraft were exempted from the increase. Ex-gov to endorse Adams for re-election in NYC mayoral race
NEW YORK (PIX11) — Former New York Gov. David Paterson has reportedly chosen a candidate to back in the New York City mayoral race. Paterson is expected to endorse Eric Adams for re-election on Wednesday. More Local News Paterson previously supported Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary and has since backed the idea of identifying the strongest candidate to challenge Zohran Mamdani in September. In July, Paterson compared the 33-year-old Democratic Socialist to 'cyanide' for the Democratic Party. The former governor pointed to Mamdani's lack of experience, controversial stance on Israel, and 'impossible' promise to freeze rent. 'I have been very clear in my position that I simply do not believe Zohran Mamdani is the best person to lead New York City in these extremely turbulent times,' Paterson said. Mamdani is leading the New York City mayoral race by nearly 20 points over former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, according to a new Siena Research Institute poll. The poll showed that Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, had 44% of the vote. He was followed by Cuomo at 25%, Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa at 12% and independent Mayor Eric Adams at 7%. Siena researchers said the New York City sample in the poll was included as part of the New York statewide registered voter sample and was not weighted as part of a New York City likely voter sample. That could increase the margin of error, which is at +/- 6.7%, and some results should be taken as anecdotal, according to researchers. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
