Joao Felix said yesterday that Portugal team-mate and close friend Diogo Jota will 'forever be a part of football history' following the Liverpool star's death aged 28.
Jota was killed along with brother Andre Silva when their Lamborghini went off the road in northern Spain on July 3.
Just 11 days prior to the accident, the Portuguese forward had married Rute Cardoso, the mother of his three children.
The Premier League remembered Jota over the weekend in a series of moving tributes.
Adding his voice to the outpouring of grief across the football world, Felix looked visibly moved as he spoke about his good friend and international colleague.
Felix, who was among the mourners at the brothers' funeral, said: 'Diogo to me was one of my best friends in the national team, he was always part of our mini group in the national team, those of us who were always together.
'I knew his family, especially his parents, an incredible family.'
Speaking in Hong Kong, where Felix is with his new team Al Nassr for this week's Saudi Super Cup, the 25-yearold added: 'I think he will forever be a part of football history, he will remain in the hearts of those who were already close to him.
'After that day, every time we go on the field we will remember him and play in part for him.'
The attacker Felix joined fellow Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo at Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr late last month from Chelsea in a move reported to be worth up to 43.7 million pounds ($58 million).
Felix, who has also played for Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan, will reportedly earn $10 million a year.

Mané And Félix Fire 10-Man Al Nassr Into Saudi Super Cup Final

Sadio Mané and João Félix struck as 10-man Al Nassr edged Al Ittihad 2-1 in a dramatic Saudi Super Cup semi-final on Tuesday in Hong Kong, securing their place in the final despite a first-half red card. Mané opened the scoring in the 10th minute, converting a precise pass from Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozović to give Al Nassr an early advantage after a dominant start. But Al Ittihad hit back quickly. Dutch winger Steven Bergwijn capitalized on defensive confusion to equalize in the 16th minute, making it 1-1 and resetting the tempo of a frenetic first half. The match took a major turn in the 25th minute when Saudi referee Khalid Al-Turais showed a straight red card to Mané, reducing Nassr to 10 men and raising questions about their ability to sustain pressure. Yet even down a man, Al Nassr showed resilience and tactical discipline. Led by Brozović in midfield and with Cristiano Ronaldo orchestrating attacks, the Riyadh giants remained in control. The decisive moment came in the 60th minute. Ronaldo slipped a perfectly weighted ball through to Félix, who calmly slotted past the Ittihad goalkeeper. The goal was briefly reviewed by VAR but stood, giving Al Nassr a deserved lead once again. Despite late pressure from Ittihad, including waves of attacks in the final minutes, Al Nassr's defense held firm. The backline, buoyed by a cohesive team effort, managed to repel every attempt as the team closed out a gutsy win. Ronaldo's vision and leadership, along with Brozović's control and Félix's clinical finishing, ensured Al Nassr booked their place in the August 23 final, where they will face the winner of Wednesday's semi-final between Al Ahli and Al Qadsiah.

PSG get Ligue 1 title defence off to winning start

AFP | Paris Paris Saint-Germain got their defence of the Ligue 1 title off to a winning start on Sunday as Vitinha's deflected strike proved enough to earn the European champions a 1-0 victory away to Nantes. The Portuguese midfielder's effort midway through the second half beat goalkeeper Anthony Lopes with the aid of a wicked deflection off Nantes defender Chidozie Awaziem to break the deadlock. PSG were made to work hard for their victory as coach Luis Enrique made seven changes to his starting line-up following the UEFA Super Cup win on penalties against Tottenham Hotspur in midweek. That was the first game of the new campaign for last season's Champions League winners, who only began pre-season training on August 6 having gone all the way to the Club World Cup final in the United States in mid-July. They did not play any friendly matches prior to that and are therefore likely to require several weeks before getting close to the level at which they performed last season. However, they still had enough against a hard-working but punchless Nantes side, playing a first competitive match under new Portuguese coach Luis Castro. 'I am very happy because the first objective in these matches is the victory and I think we deserved the three points,' Luis Enrique said. 'We were in control throughout, playing away from home. In the first half we didn't create much but that is normal because it is difficult against a team defending so deep.' Asked about his team's lack of preparation for the start of the new season, the Spanish coach added: 'Today we saw that our players are ready and wanted to show the level they can perform at. 'They all need time which I think is normal but we will look more comfortable with the ball once we have a few more games under our belts.'
