
Mission: Impossible, Star Trek actor Tom Troupe passes away at 97
Troupe, who passed away of natural causes, was best known for his work in Broadway productions and his roles in over 75 television shows. His performances in iconic series such as 'Star Trek,' 'Mission: Impossible,' 'Frasier,' and 'Cheers' made him a familiar face to viewers across generations.
Born on July 15, 1928, in Kansas City, Missouri, Troupe began acting in local theater productions before moving to New York City in the 1940s. He studied acting under Uta Hagen at the Herbert Berghof Studio. Troupe also served in the Korean War and was awarded a Bronze Star for his efforts.
Troupe made his Broadway debut in 1957 in The Diary of Anne Frank and later moved to Los Angeles in 1958, where his Hollywood journey began. Over the years, he appeared in popular TV shows such as The Wild Wild West, CHiPs, Cagney & Lacey, ER, Knots Landing, and Murder, She Wrote. On the big screen, he was seen in films like Kelly's Heroes, The Devil's Brigade, Summer School, and My Own Private Idaho, alongside River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves.
In addition to his screen work, Troupe had a strong presence in theater. He often performed alongside his wife of nearly 60 years, Carole Cook, who passed away in 2023. Together, they starred in plays such as The Lion in Winter, Father's Day, and The Gin Game. The couple was awarded the 2002 Theatre Ovation Award for Career Achievement, making history as the first married pair to receive the honor.
Troupe also toured nationally with Barbara Rush in Same Time, Next Year and starred in his co-written play The Diary of a Madman. (ANI)

Hyderabad: Khairatabad Ganesh idol is set to make a grand appearance in 2025
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], August 7 (ANI): Hyderabad's iconic Khairatabad Ganesh idol is all set to make a grand appearance in 2025, marking its 71st year. This year's idol, named 'Vishwashanti,' aims to promote peace across the world. The making of the Ganesh Idol started on June 6, on the occasion of Sarva Ekadasi, and is expected to be completed by August 25. More than 50% of the work is finished. According to Sandeep Raj, Convenor of the Hyderabad Ganesh Utsav Committee, the idol will be 69 feet tall. It will feature Kanyaka Parmeshwari on one side and Gajjelaamma Mata on the committee has been working tirelessly to ensure the idol's construction is not only aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally sustainable. More than 50% of the work is finished, he added. The idol is being made entirely of clay (Matti) without using Plaster of Paris (POP), and water-based paint will be used, which dissolves in water, making the immersion process eco-friendly. The raw materials used include clay from Gujarat, jute powder, grass, sand, and grass powder.A team of around 200 people, including 40 artisans from Chennai, clay artisans from Odisha, a welding team from Andhra Pradesh, and a team from Adilabad, is working on making the Ganesh idol. Jogarao, a clay artisan from Odisha, said that it's been four years since he has been working on the Khairatabad Ganesh idol. 'There is no POP used anywhere in making the idol, it's completely made of clay and water colours will be used," he Khairatabad Ganesh idol has been a tradition since 1954, started by the late Shankaraiah, a corporator at that time.
