Derrick White reacted to his 2022 Celtics trade with dominos and drinking

Yahoo2 days ago
Derrick White was stunned to be dealt to Boston at the 2022 NBA trade deadline.
Then 27 years old, White was a productive member of the Spurs and believed he'd be in San Antonio as the young team continued to rebuild. Brad Stevens had something else in mind.
'Getting traded in-season is one of the craziest things that I've had to deal with in my NBA career,' White said on his new 'White Noise' podcast. 'I was hurt, definitely, when they traded me.'
White's wife was seven months pregnant and he was in Atlanta with the Spurs when the deal went down. The guard found out from legendary coach Gregg Popovich — not Twitter — which he was grateful for. Popovich called White and then came to his room and told him he'd been traded, but didn't initially say to where until White asked him.
'He's like, 'We wouldn't (expletive) you. We sent you to Boston,'' White recalled.
As news of the trade spread, White's friend and a member of the Spurs athletic training staff, Brendan Bowman, sent him a text: Do you want me to get you a bottle?
White did indeed.
'So me and B started playing dominos and drinking,' White said. 'Then (center Jakob Poeltl) comes in at the end. People are starting to come into the room. So I'm just drinking, drinking.'
Then former Celtics assistant Will Hardy called White and told him his new team had booked him a flight that took off in an hour and a half. He needed to pack his things and get to the airport as quickly as he could.
'At this point I'm lit. I'm lit,' White said. 'I'm upset that they traded me, but now I'm trying to get to the airport. Barely make my flight.'
A night later, White was in the Celtics lineup, scoring 15 points off the bench to help Boston beat the Denver Nuggets at TD Garden.

The Celtics signed Max Shulga to a two way deal, but will he play in the NBA?

The Boston Celtics signed 2025 NBA Draft pick Max Shulga to a two way deal, but will he play in the NBA this season? The former Virginia Commonwealth combo guard had himself a solid if unremarkable stint suiting up for the Sin City Celtics in the league's 2025 Las Vegas Summer League after being picked up by Boston with the No. 57 overall pick of this year's draft. In a season that will see the Celtics mostly looking to develop younger players in pace of their usual pursuit of postseason wins, we can expect to see at least some of the cohort of young prospects taken by Boston in the draft this summer. Given Hugo Gonzalez, the Celtics' No. 28 pick, will already be in competition for minutes not only with likely starters Payton Pritchard and Derrick White, new addition Anfernee Simons (if he isn't traded first), and fellow Summer Celtics Baylor Scheierman and Jordan Walsh, there may be little or even no run at the NBA level for Shulga. The hosts of the CLNS Media "How Bout Them Celtics!" podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, took some time on a recent episode of their show to talk over how much we can expect the VCU alum to play in Maine.
