L-G'S Sainik Sahayta Kendra established
In a major relief for soldiers confronting civil issues, Jammu and Kashmir Lt-Governor Manoj Sinha has approved the establishment of his Sainik Sahayta Kendra. The kendra aims to provide systematic grievance redressal support to those serving in the Indian Armed Forces and the CAPF posted in the union territory of J&K as well as those serving in other parts of the country who originally belong to this place. Now, the soldiers would not need to run from pillar to post to have their civilian grievances addressed. The kendra would serve as a single-window platform for receiving, assessing and facilitating the redressal of grievances. Wular Lake blooms with lotus after three decades After nearly three long decades, lotus flowers are blooming in Wular Lake — Asia's largest freshwater lake located in J&K's Bandipora district — again. The locals said the lotus, known by locals as nadru, disappeared after the 1992 floods, which caused damage to the rich ecosystem of the lake by depositing a large quantity of silt that buried the lotus vegetation. Spread over nearly 200 square kilometres and located between the towns of Bandipora and Sopore in north Kashmir, the lake was once a major source of income for hundreds of families dependent on their livelihood on Asia's largest freshwater lake. Congress to take statehood protest to New Delhi As the monsoon session of Parliament gets under way, the Congress has decided to up the ante for the restoration of statehood to J&K. 'We will stage a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 22 to press for the full-fledged restoration of statehood to J&K,' said J&K Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir. He reiterated that the party is against the dual power system in J&K. The Congress has asked PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to fulfil their promise of restoring statehood to J&K. Following the heinous April 22 Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people, India launched Operation Sindoor, a decisive reply to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. The Operation launched on May 7 struck nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir. On May 10, an understanding of cessation of hostilities between the two countries was announced. Live Events Since the attack, the Opposition has demanded answers from the Centre regarding the attack. Opposition parties have called the Pahalgam attack itself an intelligence failure, and have demanded to know when the perpetrators of the terror attack will be caught. The opposition has also demanded that the Centre clear the record amid US President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he helped mediate the cessation of hostilities between the two countries. Recently, too, President Trump claimed that at least five fighter jets were shot down during the hostilities; however, he did not clarify whether the losses were from the Indian or Pakistside. India, in turn, has vehemently denied the claims, stating that the understanding was reached bilaterally rather than through a third party.

RTC workers threaten hunger strike over unmet demands
Hyderabad: TheTelangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) Workers Union has issued a warning to the state government, threatening to launch a mass hunger strike at Indira Park if long-pending workers' demands are not immediately addressed. The union's General Secretary, K Rajireddy, highlighted several critical concerns that have prompted this decision to call for a hunger strike. Among the key unresolved demands are wage revision, denied union recognition, and unpaid dues. Rajireddy stated, 'Despite Congress's 2023 election promise, the 2021 wage revision remains unimplemented. The previous BRS regime abolished welfare committees and banned unions—a policy the Congress government has yet to reverse. The government claims to have sanctioned 3,038 posts yet continues outsourcing drivers and conductors—a first in RTC's history.' Workers are also seeking a 100 per cent increase in the 2017 wage revision allowances. They demand immediae payment of 11 pending Dearness Allowances (DAs) from 2019 to 2024. Additionally, they seek arrears in bonds with five-year interest. There is also increased pressure on employees without job security or the regularisation of temporary staff. The Union demands immediate action on several fronts. These include forming a committee with union representation to draft RTC merger rules, withdrawing false police cases from the 2019 strike, ceasing outsourcing and commencing regular recruitment, compensating families of deceased/medically unfit workers, reviewing wrongful terminations under the Mahalakshmi scheme and breath analyser disputes, and holding elections for RTC's Credit Cooperative Society (CCS).
