Miss Ghost and Tommy? What to know so far about 'Power: Origins' spinoff

USA Today7 days ago
The "Power Universe" continues to expand.
"Power: Origins," the newest installment to the hit crime series on Starz, is officially in development, the premium cable network announced on July 22.
The show will be the fourth spinoff of the television franchise, executive produced by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. It follows the flagship series "Power," created by Courtney Kemp, which concluded in 2020.
It starred actor Omari Hardwick as James "Ghost" St. Patrick − a drug dealer turned businessman trying to navigate his criminal enterprise while building a legitimate reputation in New York City.
Other extensions, "Power Book II: Ghost," "Power Book III: Raising Kanan" and "Power Book IV: Force" came soon after. "Force" is centered around Ghost's right-hand man Tommy Egan, played by Joseph Sikora, who took off to Chicago for a new start.

How many episodes will 'Power: Origins' Season 1 have?
"Power: Origins" will focus on the beginnings of Ghost and Tommy, or as showrunner Sascha Penn calls them, "the Power Universe's founding fathers."
"Ghost and Tommy's backstories have fueled years of constant fascination and speculation among fans, and I'm thrilled to be able to answer some long-held questions and share new layers of the story that viewers won't see coming," Penn, also a writer and executive producer, said in a press release.
Starz ordered 18 episodes for the highly anticipated prequel. According to Starz, actor Mekai Curtis, who plays protagonist adolescent Kanan Stark on "Raising Kanan," will return to his role in the spinoff. According to The Hollywood Reporter, young Ghost and Tommy have not been cast yet.
"A fun, rambunctious exploration of a new time period in the 'Power' franchise, 'Power: Origins' will highlight the unbridled audacity of young men on the rise, determined to become legends in the game," Starz said.
Which 'Power' spinoffs are headed to their final seasons?
The third and final season of "Power Book IV: Force" is slated to air in the fall, Starz said.
"Very grateful to the people over at Starz for keeping it going and listening to the fans, this army of fans around the world," Sikora previously told USA TODAY.
The fourth season of "Power Book III: Raising Kanan" aired earlier in 2025. The conclusion to the show has already been shot and will end with Season 5. An air date has not been announced.
"There is still an exceptionally intense and action-packed season left for the viewers to experience, and I assure you that the stakes for Kanan and the entire Thomas family have never been higher," Penn wrote in an Instagram post.

'Tulsa King' Season 3 first look unveils 'darkest season yet' of Stallone crime drama

Transplanted New York mobster Dwight "The General" Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) shared a moment of peace and joy with his rag-tag crew of misfit Oklahoma mobsters in the "Tulsa King" Season 2 finale. That happy instance passed quickly in "Yellowstone" creator Taylor Sheridan's Paramount+ fish-out-of-water mob series. Season 3 kicks off in September with fights exploding and movie icon Samuel L. Jackson joining TV's oddball Manfredi crime family. The new season will herald crime world territory expansion and growing pains, according to Garrett Hedlund, who stars as Manfredi's right-hand man, Mitch "The Stick" Keller. "We're keeping the stakes high," Hedlund tells USA TODAY, unveiling the exclusive first look of "Tulsa King" Season 3. "At the end of the day, most of these guys are – or have been, or will be – killers. That makes for interesting drama. And this is our darkest season yet." Samuel L. Jackson joins 'Yellowstone,' Taylor Sheridan-universe with 'NOLA King' 'Tulsa King' Season 3 cast squares up The dread – and a spectacular gun-toting stand-off – are propelled by the new deadly rivals to Manfredi's growing Tulsa-centered crime network. Ruthless liquor mogul Jeremiah Dunmire (Robert Patrick) and his erratic, privileged son Cole Dunmire (Beau Knapp) will fight the Manfredi clan over the rights to a profitable local distillery in a primary Season 3 storyline. Patrick, who villainously squared off against Stallone in 1997's "Copland" nearly three decades ago, "brings a command and authority that hasn't been seen in a 'Tulsa King' nemesis," Hedlund says. "It's funny watching Patrick play a very bad man with such control of his darkness." Samuel L. Jackson will star in 'Tulsa King' and 'NOLA King' spinoff Jackson, 76, takes on his first TV series along with his first role besides Stallone, 79, a fellow big-screen icon. The star duo's "Tulsa King' characters have a long, interwoven history. Jackson plays Russell Lee Washington Jr., who spent hard time with Manfredi in prison. Washington is hired to kill his old friend, but changes his mind before executing the hit. He's inspired to start his Manfredi-style empire in his New Orleans hometown, which will be depicted in the upcoming spinoff "NOLA King." "Samuel L. Jackson is a gift to the series," says Hedlund. "He and Sly (Stallone) radiate as men who are absolutely genuine, but who are not to be messed with. And this season will give a taste of what (Jackson) is going to do in 'NOLA King.'" Mixing business and pleasure in explosive relationship Former rodeo star Mitch loses his loner status in Season 3 when he meets up with old flame and Tulsa native Cleo Montague (Bella Heathcote). Cleo is also a business partner, as her father owns the distillery prized by Manfredi's crew and competitors. The business and the relationship are explosive for Mitch and Cleo. "If you've ever heard the phrase 'It takes two to toxic,' well, get ready," says Hedlund of the screen couple. The actor calls back to his 2012 "On the Road" role, in the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac's famed novel, to describe Mitch's renewed "Tulsa King" love. "This relationship epitomizes what Kerouac meant when he wrote, 'The only ones for me are the mad ones.'" Manfredi has to deal with the FBI At the end of Season 2, Manfredi is hauled by a gun-wielding tactical team from the high-thread-count-sheeted bed he shares with his wealthy equestrian girlfriend Margaret (Dana Delany). The unhooded Manfredi meets his mysterious new government minder, who is revealed in Season 3 to be FBI Special Agent Musso (Kevin Pollak). Stallone told USA TODAY in November that the forced relationship between Manfredi and the government would be mutually beneficial. "I'm not going to snitch," Stallone said of his loyal character. "But if I have to do some deeds to people that deserve it, I'm going to." Manfredi's fed contacts will come in handy when dealing with returning Season 2 villains – steely Tulsa businessman Cal Thresher (Neal McDonough) and often-unhinged Kansas City mob boss Bill Bevilaqua (Frank Grillo). Bevilaqua joins forces with Manfredi, at least outwardly, and Grillo stood behind Stallone during the gun-drawn show of force at the disputed distillery. "Sometimes to take over the whole world, two kings have to come together," says Hedlund. "That meeting is the spine of the whole season." When is 'Tulsa King' Season 3 coming out? The upcoming season is currently set to air on Paramount+ in September.

'South Park' isn't done mocking Trump: Trailer for next episode skewers president again

"South Park" isn't finished with President Donald Trump. The Comedy Central show has dropped a trailer for its next episode, which suggests the series will continue mocking Trump after making waves for going after him in its Season 27 premiere. The 20-second trailer includes a shot of Trump attending a dinner, where he is sitting at a table with Satan. As a speaker is heard talking about honoring Trump's courage, the president rubs Satan's leg under the table, and Satan tells him to stop. It's unclear whether this scene will appear in the next episode, airing Aug. 6, or whether it was created solely for the trailer. "South Park" is notorious for not having episodes finished until soon before they air, and during a Comic-Con panel last week, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone acknowledged they created scenes just to use in a trailer for Season 27. But the trailer at least implies that Trump and his relationship with Satan will be a continuing storyline throughout the season, rather than a one-off plot. In its Season 27 premiere, which aired on July 23, "South Park" skewered Trump and showed him literally getting into bed with Satan. He was animated using real photos of the president placed on an animated body, a parody almost identical to the way the show's 1999 movie depicted Saddam Hussein. The White House fired back at the episode, with spokesperson Taylor Rogers saying in a statement to USA TODAY that "South Park" "hasn't been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention." One of the main plot lines in the season premiere, titled "Sermon on the 'Mount," was Trump suing the town of South Park. By the end of the episode, the town agrees to do pro-Trump messaging as part of a settlement. The show then cut to a faux public service announcement showing a live-action depiction of Trump taking off his clothes and crawling through a desert. The video was introduced with an on-screen graphic that said "PRO-TRUMP PSA 01 OF 50," suggesting there could be more to come in future episodes. In an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con last week, Parker and Stone sarcastically apologized for the episode. "We're terribly sorry," Parker jokingly said. During their July 24 Comic-Con panel, Parker and Stone also acknowledged that they didn't yet know what would happen in the next "South Park" episode, given how quickly episodes come together. "I don't know what the episode is next week," Parker said. "It's super stressful." Contributing: Brian Truitt

Ozzy Osbourne funeral procession in Birmingham. How to watch

Black Sabbath fans are honoring Ozzy Osbourne in a funeral procession in his hometown. The heavy metal legend, who died July 22 at 76, is riding through the streets of Birmingham, United Kingdom, on the morning of Wednesday, July 30. Osbourne's body will travel in a hearse accompanied by a brass band and head to Black Sabbath Bridge and bench, where thousands of fans have already paid their respects with flowers and tributes, per a release from the council. The Grammy-winning Prince of Darkness and legendary rocker died just weeks after reuniting with Black Sabbath for a final show in England. The July 5 concert was a reprieve from the English singer's harrowing battle with Parkinson's disease, which had rendered him unable to stand or walk without assistance. A livestream of the Black Sabbath bench is available online. The U.K. procession is taking place ahead of a private family funeral, which has yet to be disclosed. Osbourne's family will be covering all costs for the procession. A family statement shared with USA TODAY after his passing said the rocker died in Birmingham, England, "surrounded by love." He leaves behind Sharon Osbourne, his wife of more than 40 years, as well as daughters Jessica, Aimee and Kelly, and sons Elliot, Louis and Jack.
