Netflix is hours away from dropping all 6 episodes of 'traumatic' new thriller
If you're willing to stay up for a few more hours into the night, Netflix is about to release your next bingeable fix.
The creator behind the platform's hits Clickbait and Stateless now brings The Survivors to the streaming service, a murder mystery set against the Australian island Tasmania's unforgiving landscape.
Showrunner Tony Ayres has described the six-part miniseries as 'a family melodrama disguised as a murder mystery', exploring the long-tail of generational trauma.
Based on Jane Harper's bestselling book, the thriller follows Kieran Elliott (Charlie Vickers) and Mia Chang (Yerin Ha), who return to Kieran's Tasmanian hometown Evelyn Bay.
They arrive in the seaside setting fifteen years after a terrible storm took three lives, including Kieran's older brother.

When a young woman's body is discovered on the beach, Kieran's father (Damien Garvey), who's suffering from dementia, becomes the prime suspect.
The tragedy forces the community of Evelyn Bay – where everybody knows everybody's business – to confront their long-ignored grief and buried secrets.
A synopsis of the show on Netflix's Tudum reads: 'The show explores what happens to families and friends when they're forced to reckon with the kind of traumatic events that have a way of floating up to the surface again and again.
'It's a thrilling whodunnit— with an intensely emotional core.'
Ayres has described the show as a 'Trojan horse' for family melodrama, using the murder mystery as cover.
'The things that are really at its heart are things like a son wanting his mother's love and the mother who just cannot afford to give it because her whole world might fall apart,' he said.
'Themes of family and loss and the stories that we tell each other to understand loss.'
Evelyn Bay isn't a real place, but one Jane Harper created for her novel, although the Netflix production did shoot at various locations in Tasmania.
Ayres told Variety: 'It became very clear once we found Eagle Hawk Neck and the spectacular landscapes that the locations were going to be crucial to not just the tone of the show, but the themes of the show.' More Trending
Those who come to The Survivors as fans of Harper's books will also find much more than they bargained for here. Ayres has explained that the novel only afforded around two and a half hours of screen time, but Netflix wanted to make six episodes of the show.
He told the trade publication that there was a degree of 'invention' behind the scenes, but all of it drawn from the original book.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, continues to share sweet snippets of her family life with husband Prince Harry and their two kids, Archie and Lilibet. In her latest Instagram post, the former Meghan Markle shared a video collage filled with photos of their trip to Disneyland for their daughter's fourth birthday. Meghan also shows Lilibet's 'Little Mermaid' birthday cake, their Mickey and Minnie stuffed dolls, the corn dogs and pickles they munched on during their trip and several other family photos from the park. Among the cutest is one of all four posing together, in which Lilibet is barefoot and in a pink dress with bows. The latest look into Meghan's personal home life comes after she celebrated her daughter's birthday on June 4. The former 'Suits' star shared a number of photos of her little girl from when she was born to their most recent adventures together. There were also snaps of Harry and his 'favorite adventurer' holding hands. 'Happy birthday to our beautiful girl! Four years ago today she came into our lives — and each day is brighter and better because of it. Thanks to all of those sending love and celebrating her special day!' Meghan wrote in her first post. Additionally, she also posted a never-before-seen video of when she was pregnant with Lilibet and dancing with Harry at the hospital in hopes to induce labor. 'Four years ago today, this also happened. Lisa Kudrow says her Friends character Phoebe ‘was so far from who I am'
The 61-year-old from Los Angeles played one of six friends featured in the hit US sitcom which also starred Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matt Le Blanc and the late Matthew Perry. Speaking to US actress Parker Posey for Variety's Actors On Actors series, she said: 'It (the series) was fun the whole time, because we had fun, the cast had fun. 'It was like a collaboration with the writers, because they were so great and nice and good. 'But me being Phoebe was so far from who I was as a human being that it was work. 'I needed to justify everything she was saying in my head so that it felt like she meant it and it was real to her. It was a lot of work. 'And I remember like season two or three, and I was just doing it, and went, 'Oh my god, I'm not doing the work. I don't know if this is going as well. I'm not doing the work'. 'I was really fretting over it. And (Matt) LeBlanc went, 'What's the matter with you?'. I said, 'I'm not doing the work that I did. I used to like really work, and he said, 'You're her. Renewed Or Cancelled? Mercy for None is the latest Netflix K-drama, boasting compelling characters and a bloody, action-packed storyline. This one has been quite the rollercoaster ride over the season! If you've been following this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Well, wonder no more. Here's what we know about a renewal: What is Mercy for None about? 11 years after going into hiding, an ex-gangster called Nam Gi-jun returns to Seoul's criminal underworld to find out the truth about his brother's death — and get some sweet, sweet revenge. His weapon of choice? A baseball bat. We have ongoing coverage of Mercy for None on the site, including recaps for every episode. You can find those HERE! Has Mercy for None been renewed for season 2? At the time of writing, Netflix have not renewed Mercy for None for season 2. Generally Netflix would gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show's future is made. So far, Mercy for None has had a good reaction online from critics and audiences alike. Given the way this show is set up, and the ending we receive, we're predicting that this will not be renewed for a second season. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed. Having said that though, we have seen Taxi Driver and Tale of the Nine Tailed renewed recently, alongside Alchemy of Souls too. Given how steady the ratings are for this series, could we see this one buck the trend? It seems very unlikely that Mercy for None will buck the trend. There is always the possibility that the actors return for a follow-up for a sequel or a spin-off featuring the same characters but considering all of this, we believe this will not be renewed.
