xAI Project Skippy asked workers to record their facial expressions to train Grok, report says
Still, workers had to sign a consent form that granted xAI 'perpetual' access to their likeness. This included not just training purposes but also use in commercial products and services. While the form stated that the data would not be used to create a digital copy of the worker, it wasn't enough to allay concerns.Reportedly, xAI staff were guided on how to have natural conversations during the recordings. They were asked to maintain eye contact, avoid one-word replies, and were even given suggested discussion topics, some of which were apparently surprisingly personal or provocative, such as 'How do you secretly manipulate people to get your way?' or 'Would you ever date someone with a kid or kids?'The project came just weeks before xAI launched lifelike avatars named Ani and Rudi, which move their lips and make realistic gestures. Users on social media were quick to show that the avatars could be prompted into disturbing behaviours. Ani engaged in sexually suggestive conversations, while Rudi made threats of violence, including bombing banks. xAI, last week, also launched a chatbot for children called Baby Grok.Separately, Grok was recently caught in another controversy for making antisemitic remarks, which followed another instance of Grok passing racist comments in replies to users on X.- EndsTune In

‘In a few months there will be BTA…': What FIEO's CEO Ajay Sahai said on Trump imposing 25% tariffs on India
The Director General & CEO of the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), Dr Ajay Sahai, has responded to US President Donald Trump's announcement to levy 25% tariffs, plus a penalty on India. He expressed disappointment over the 25% tariff levied on India and highlighted the ongoing discussions on the bilateral trade agreement (BTA) with the US. He noted the ambiguity of Trump's 'penalty' remarks and anticipated a significant reduction in tariffs with the upcoming BTA. Speaking to ANI, Sahai said, 'The 25% tariff imposed on India is a little disappointing for us, and we are constantly engaged with the US on the BTA. The 'penalty' President Trump has talked about is also not clear... In a few months, there will be BTA between India and the US and these tariffs will come down significantly…' Meanwhile, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) voiced its disappointment regarding the decision. "FICCI is disappointed by the decision taken by the U.S. to levy a 25 per cent tariff on exports from India and impose secondary sanctions. While this move is unfortunate and will have a clear bearing on our exports, we hope that this imposition of higher tariffs will be a short-term phenomenon and that a permanent trade deal between the two sides will be finalised soon," ANI quoted Agarwal. Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on India due to high duties and other trade barriers. He called out India's military purchases from Russia while imposing an additional penalty. On his Truth Social handle, Trump wrote, 'Remember, while India is our friend, we have, over the years, done relatively little business with them because their Tariffs are far too high, among the highest in the World, and they have the most strenuous and obnoxious non-monetary Trade Barriers of any Country.' He added, 'Also, they have always bought a vast majority of their military equipment from Russia, and are Russia's largest buyer of ENERGY, along with China, at a time when everyone wants Russia to STOP THE KILLING IN UKRAINE — ALL THINGS NOT GOOD! INDIA WILL THEREFORE BE PAYING A TARIFF OF 25%, PLUS A PENALTY FOR THE ABOVE, STARTING ON AUGUST FIRST. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. MAGA!' In a separate post on Truth Social, Trump said, 'WE HAVE A MASSIVE TRADE DEFICIT WITH INDIA!!!'

"Wrong Step By US": How Leaders In India Reacted To Trump's Tariff Strike
The Congress party slammed the BJP government as US President Donald Trump slapped India with 25 per cent tariffs on Wednesday. In a post on X, the Congress party wrote, "country is now bearing the cost of Narendra Modi's 'friendship'". It blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for campaigning for Trump, referring to the "Howdy, Modi!" event in Texas in September 2019. "Trump slapped a 25% tariff on India, along with a penalty. The country is now bearing the cost of Narendra Modi's 'friendship'. Modi campaigned for Trump, hugged him eagerly, posed for photos, and made it trend on social media. In the end, Trump still imposed tariffs on India. India's foreign policy has completely failed," the party said. — Congress (@INCIndia) July 30, 2025 Congress leader Jairam Ramesh wrote on X that PM Modi's 'Howdy Modi' event "meant little". He added, "Mr. Modi thought that if he kept quiet on the insults that the US President has hurled on would get special treatment at the hands of President Trump. Clearly that has NOT happened." He further added that PM Modi should take inspiration from former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and "stand up" to the US President. President Trump has slapped a tariff of 25% plus penalty on imports from India. All that taarif between him and Howdy Modi has meant little. He also accused India and China of paying for Russia's war - a now three-year-old military conflict Mr Trump claimed he could end within 24 hours of being sworn in on January 20. "Also, they have always bought a vast majority of their military equipment from Russia, and are Russia's largest buyer of energy... at a time when everyone wants Russia to stop the killing in Ukraine. India will, therefore, be paying a tariff of 25 per cent, plus a penalty for the above, starting August 1..." he wrote. Congress MP Mallu Ravi, said that the Congress is bothered about the threats coming from the US President and said that it seems as if "he is threatening India". He added that India should "properly answer him". #WATCH | Delhi: On US imposing 25% tariffs on India, Congress MP Mallu Ravi says," It is like he is threatening India. We will raise all issues in there is so much friendship, then why is Donald Trump troubling India?..." #WATCH | Delhi: On US imposing 25% tariffs on India, Congress MP Mallu Ravi says," It is like he is threatening India. He has even gone on to say that he loves Pakistan and India should think about it. PM Narendra Modi should strongly oppose this move and make his next step clear." On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders have called the tariff imposition "unfortunate" and pointed out that usually Mr Trump makes a U-turn on his statements and urged the public to wait for an "official word from the Government of India". "This is unfortunate, and I am sure that the Government of India will take appropriate steps in this regard. Trade and industry will depend on what the Government of India decides," BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal said. BJP MP Hemang Joshi said, "US President keeps issuing unilateral statements. Until we get an official word from the Government of India, we should wait. Even before this, he made a statement, and then made a U-turn," he said. #WATCH | Delhi | US President Trump implements 25% tariffs on India, BJP MP Hemang Joshi says, "US President keeps issuing unilateral statements. We will also make a strong counter-strategy." Since returning for his second term on January 20, Donald Trump has slapped tariffs on all of the United States' major (and many of the minor) trading partners, arguing they had been charging as high or higher levies on the import of American goods.
