Rob Heathcote sure talented filly Carbonara can pass barrier test after debut disaster

Trainer Rob Heathcote is confident there won't a repeat of the barrier mishap which ruined Carbonara's debut race when the talented filly lines up in Saturday's $200,000 Calaway Gal Stakes at Eagle Farm.
Young apprentice Bailey Wheeler was riding Carbonara, named after one of Heathcote's favourite Italian dishes, spaghetti carbonara, when the horse reared in the gates in the $125,000 QTIS 2YO Jewel Prelude over 1110m at Doomben on February 22.

Carbonara ended up finishing last in a complete forgive run in the nine-horse race won by Sunrays and trained by Kelly Schweida, who went on to win the $500,000 2YO Jewel (1200m) on the Gold Coast last month with Grafterburners.
'She reared in the stalls and that can happen,' Heathcote said about the unfortunate incident in the 2YO Prelude.
'She's a little bit antsy at first and gets a little bit anxious in the barriers.
'Since then we've had to do a fair bit of rehabilitation work and we've had her through our barriers.
'She had a jumpout on Tuesday which was part of the stewards' direction and she passed her barrier certificate. That's why I have her in on Saturday.
'She's an enormous talent. I'm having a horror run with wide barriers but we're still going to run Carbonara on Saturday.'

High-flying apprentice Emily Lang will ride Carbonara in a race dominated in the betting markets by the Tony Gollan-trained topweight Hi Barbie ($3.30 with TAB).
Lang is leading the Brisbane jockeys' premiership with 51 victories, six ahead of Jimmy Orman and Angela Jones, who will ride Hi Barbie, the filly resuming after finishing sixth in the $3m Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) in January.
'From the alley (14) obviously it'll be tough and Hi Barbie is pure quality,' Heathcote said.
'She's a $1.2m filly and mine is a little home-bred.'
Heathcote was clearly thinking about his belly when it came to naming Carbonara, who is paying $14 to win the $200,000 Listed Calaway Gal Stakes.
'I love spaghetti carbonara and she's out of a mare called Alle Vongole, which is a famous Italian dish called alle vongole, which in Italian means 'spaghetti with clams',' Heathcote said.
'It's my favourite dish. The half-brother that's out in the paddock, I think I'll call him 'Linguine'.'
Unbeaten pair Ha'penny Hatch ($5) and Dragonne Rouge ($8.50) should also provide stiff opposition in the race for 2YO fillies, while TAB has rated the John Sargent-trained Listen Sweetheart as a $6 chance in her race debut.

Alcaraz said he would tune into the second semi-final on Court Philippe Chatrier to watch world No.1 Jannik Sinner take on 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic and study his opponent for Sunday's final. "I'm not going to miss tonight's match, it's one of the best we can have right now, Sinner against Djokovic," he said. "I'm going to watch it and enjoy it and take tactics from the match."

Braith Anasta has warned that the Lachlan Galvin signing could disrupt the Bulldogs' momentum and will likely result in a major backline reshuffle. The 19-year-old's contract saga has dominated the rugby league news cycle for several weeks before it finally came to a head last week when he signed with the Bulldogs on around $750,000 a season. Many expected Galvin to make his debut in the Easter Monday clash against the Eels, but the teen phenom has instead been named outside the 17. Although a late change could be on the cards. 'I think Galvin is a 5/8 not a halfback,' Anasta told 'I know many are saying he will play seven but the Galvin signing isn't a short-term play. Where he fits their system right now is tricky. 'I'm sure the Dogs would have spoken to him openly about where he could potentially play but there isn't an obvious spot for him to come into. I would think they will most likely give Sexton the next few weeks to see if he continues to knock it out of the park. 'If he does they have two options, play him (Galvin) off the bench for the year or if not I don't mind the idea of playing Burton at fullback. If it was up to me I'd be doing that before anything else so as to not interrupt the team as much. 'I could see them really having success with Burton at fullback along with Sexton and Galvin in that spine but again a lot of it really rides on Sexton.' If Galvin is to be a late inclusion, he will likely be met with a mixed reception from fans, coming up against the team he turned down, the Eels. While Tigers fans also feel aggrieved by his decision to exit the club and his return to the joint venture will almost certainly result in him being booed and jeered every time he touches the ball. That reaction is nothing new to Anasta, who in his playing career had a mixed reaction after he joined the Roosters, due to the fact he was a Rabbitohs junior. So ahead of Galvin's possible debut, the player-turned-Fox League pundit passed on some words of wisdom to the teenager. 'My words of wisdom with anything like this is you've made your decision now and have to just back yourself,' Anasta told Canterbury Bulldogs signing Lachlan Galvin. Lachlan Galvin is pushing to be a late inclusion. 'He (Galvin) sounds like a really switched-on kid with a high footy IQ. All I'd say is block out the noise as it's really irrelevant. 'What people think, feel all their opinions about you are irrelevant unless they're the ones closest to you like your family, friends your boss and your coach. 'Because everyone's always going have an opinion and not everyone's always going to agree with the decisions that you're making in life but it doesn't matter. It really doesn't matter as long as you know you're confident in your own ability, confident in the decision you make and you work hard. 'For Galvin, the sky is the limit, the decision to leave has been made, he can put all that behind him and look forward to playing footy.'
