Dodke halts verification of EVMs as VVPAT slips not included
Dodke, who contested and lost the assembly election from Khadakwasla against BJP's Bhimrao Tapkir, had approached the district collector's office seeking verification of EVMs (electronic voting machines) and VVPAT (voter verifiable paper audit trail) slips. He had also deposited the requisite fee as mandated by the Election Commission of India.
As per procedure announced earlier, the verification process began on Friday. However, Dodke raised objections, claiming the process was not being carried out as per norms.
'We had demanded counting of votes in both EVMs and VVPAT slips. But the officials refused to do so. I have submitted my objections in writing. If the poll body does not carry out VVPAT counting, I will move court,' said Dodke.
Responding to the allegation, election officer Yashwant Mane said, 'We initiated the checking and verification of EVMs in Dodke's presence as per his application. Two EVMs were taken up and the process was carried out in accordance with Election Commission guidelines.'

Negi accuses BJP of insulting national flag
Shimla, Jul 27(UNI) Himachal Pradesh Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi has strongly criticized BJP leaders and a few local businessmen in Thunag for allegedly insulting the national flag during a protest against the government's decision to shift the Horticulture College from Thunag to a safer location. Negi defended the Congress government's move to relocate the college, citing the recent flash floods and the risk to students' lives. "It is wrong to run a college in a disaster-prone area just to protect business interests of a few people," he said, adding that students living in rented homes in Thunag had themselves requested relocation due to repeated disasters in 2023 and 2024. The Minister said that BJP workers and a handful of shopkeepers tried to block the state government's decision and even created a scene during his visit to the area. 'They surrounded my vehicle, threw black cloths and a slipper-like object at it, and disrespected the tricolour mounted on the car,' he alleged. 'This act amounts to treason,' he added. Negi also questioned the BJP's silence over the incomplete infrastructure of the college. "Out of the total Rs 270 crore sanctioned, only Rs 10 crore was spent when BJP was in power," he claimed. He said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is personally monitoring the situation and relief work is going on without any resistance from the common people. 'Only some BJP leaders and businessmen are trying to politicize the issue,' Negi said. Negi further targeted BJP leader Dr. Rajeev Bindal, saying, 'The real shameful act is the insult of the national flag, not the relocation of the college meant to save lives.' Bengalis who got NRC notices at forefront of TMC protests
Jalpaiguri: Uttam Kumar Brajabashi of Dinhata and Nishikanta Das of Mathabhanga — who received NRC notices from the foreigners tribunal in Assam — on Sunday were at the forefront of protests by Trinamool Congress against "targeting" of Bengali migrants by BJP, in Cooch Behar's Jorai on the Assam-Bengal border. After the rally, Trinamool supporters held a meeting where netas expanded on how BJP was harassing Bengali-speakers across the country. Assam govt had alleged Brajabashi was an illegal immigrant who entered India between 1966 and 1971. Brajabashi claimed he was born in 1975 and never went to Assam. Septuagenarian Nishikanta Das was also served a notice by the foreign tribunal. Although he appeared produced an Aadhaar card, EPIC and ration card at the hearing, the tribunal rejected these. Ghosh left Assam before getting a notice, saying she did not have the documents Assam govt was looking for.
